What sort of things did you notice when you realized your art has improved?

for me it was when twitter started to mark my studies as sensitive content and also my anatomy isn't as scary as it was before and im oddly good at drawing feet for some reason

Well, my linework looks a little better and I have an easier time picking colors when I'm rendering. Also, sketching is way faster and easier.

its amazing to see how well line art can compared to when you first started i remember just having sketches and calling it my "style"

Yeah, and also finding brushes you like helps too! Tbh, I still mostly sketch because I mainly draw concept art for my own stories. I get away with some shoddy art skills thanks to being primarily a writer

Few things snap your third eye open like doing a 15 year lineup of drawings of the same character

Like obviously there's a huge difference from the top row to the bottom row, you can visibly see when I learned to color better, but even the difference between this year and last year was wild to me, haha.

When i was trying all the clothes from OC to stand out, then I discovered that I just stopped doing tangents.

It´s the same for me, anotomy doesn´t feel scary anymore.
I went from literally zero anatomy knowledge (9,5 years ago) to a good
basic (for artists) knowledge. I don´t know all the muscles etc. but I´m
way more familiar with the skeleton now and that makes it way easier
to do figure drawing. I think about the pelvis and ribcage now.
Boobs don´t just grow out of the neck anymore ( )

Another thing that I noticed is that I need less construction lines and I´m
more brave with using bigger shapes

I also got faster.

Hands are not scary anymore. I do some quick hand gestures every day
right now and I´m ok with most of them. I think that this is something that
I improved on without knowing when because I got better at it suddenly.

For me I guess was people being more honest about how it looked and more attention about my art in general.

Proportions. LOL
Over the 3 years of making my comic, I also was getting into some drawing studies here and there. My most recent pages compared to my first year's pages are significantly better in proportions, color, and composition. Couldn't be happier! I hope it continues like that, so I'm doing my best to tackle my weaknesses in drawing form.

Honestly, super happy I'm doing better because I lost a lot of time for studying drawing at school (I was taking game classes, so wasn't doing much drawing at all for years.) Then I was in the hospital for a few months and couldn't use my arm for a whole lot, let alone drawing. Had to retrain myself how to draw afterwards, but got so frustrated for months after seeing how behind I had fallen in my drawing skillset.

It takes no time to find a tangent in just about every professional comic ever made. It never matters because it rarely makes the image confusing to look at. Artists worry about it too much.

I noticed my art was really freaking good! As in, if it was someone else's I would think it was made by a good artist.

On a more specific note, I no longer hate any particular part of the drawing process. Specially rendering, which gave me a hard time in the beginning.

Mm, for me, i'll only say with my digital art, because that's what's been giving me grief recently, it was when I started to render character designs that I thought looked like they could be characters in a 'real' cartoon/series, even though they're just flat designs rn. And also that I can clean up my sketches a lot quicker now.

For me its that my use of colour and lighting improved. I kept most of my colours localised and around teh mditones before, but now there's a lot more understanding of warm and cool colours, bounce light and so on.
