I am 6 episodes deep in my first series, but i have started to think of ideas for a new series already. Should i put all my focus on one of the series or try balance out my existing one with the new one i want to start?

Here is my ongoing series btw :3 https://tapas.io/series/Anxiety--Trains/info4

If you are a new writer, I think it is far more important to learn how to finish a series than it is to learn how to juggle multiple projects at once, or to always be writing beginnings for stories and never writing endings for them. I suggest focusing on one thing for now, to get the experience of completing a project under your belt, and getting back to your new idea later. Definitely jot down the basics of your new idea somewhere though, you can never really trust your brain to remember things!

I'm of the mind that you should never chew more than you can swallow. So unless you feel like you can do both series at once, I would focus on the first one and take notes for the second one. Plus if you're a new writer is better to gain experience doing something to the end, rather than multiple false starts. Finishing a single projects teaches you more than starting 10.

Thanks! Yeah i think you're right, getting a series completed would give me that base to improve from. Once again, thankyou

Yeah, very true. I will focus on finishing the ongoing series :3 Thanks for your help!

It all depends.
You say you are new, then I believe that this is a classic "The gates of heaven have opened" and your creative mind is starting to see the light.

What I will recommend is to chase the creative flow, start your next project when you feel for it. Naturally, you will be able to do that story even better because your creativity is heading that way. When you get stuck again, with the new project, then you force yourself back to the first project to revisit it, and then you will read it with a whole new experience and eyes.

Eventually, you still need to finish one of your stories.
Good luck

Good advice too, guess it is all about how much you can juggle

First of all welcome! Second, I agree to finish your current series first, but if you get ideas for new ones try writing them down in a little notebook or document on your computer/phone. It will help you sort your brain out, and you can focus back on your current series.

I say focus on your current series but write that other idea down anyway!

Thanks for the advice! I think I'm gonna hold fire on the other story for now though and finish up the original one, as i think getting a completed series under my belt will help for writing the second one. Like you say, i can look back on the first one and see it with different eyes when writing the second one :3
Once again, Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! Yep ill note down the ideas for the new one in my notepad when any new ideas spring to mind for it. Thanks for the help :3

@hen
Asking for some help is already a sign you will do alright

If I have a new idea (and I feel it shows promise) I will note it down regardless. But I'll generally prioritise on the things that I'm already working on. But more importantly, if you see a great opportunity that causes you to put your work on hold or side track it, or even have it on hiatus to make way for something else, take it. Before I met my artist, and before I started writing our comic scripts I was working on a traditional novel. I was about 4 chapters in, and I was really into it. However, I knew that it would be much harder to publish a book than to write webcomics. So I essentially put it on hold knowing that I wont be able to touch it for a while, thinking that I'll try get some followers first through other means. No regrets. Now, we are producing an amazing comic (two actually) that I could be proud to be a part of, and gained a friend for life.

Sounds great! Thanks for the advice. I think for now im going to stick to my original series but if, like you say, i feel like a great enough opportunity pops up and i should go for it, i will! No regrets!

Once again, Thanks a bunch for the advice and good luck with your comic and any future comics :3

You could always do a quick outline/plot summary and some inital sketches and then shelve it so you don't forget. I have a file full of story ideas like that and I store it specifically so I have something to choose as my next project.

Well, how do you feel about your first series? Is it boring you already? Do you need a break from it? If you're still doing well with the first one, I'd say stick to it and jot down ideas for the second. If the first one is getting boring or tiring to work on, then I'd say go for the second. It's best to finish something before starting new projects, otherwise, you'll get stuck in that never ending cycle of beginning a story and never completing it. I used to do this a lot actually. Never wanted to end stories and still don't enjoy it. But it's good to learn early on! If you feel like you can juggle two stories, then try it out. Everyone is different. I've personally tried this and failed. I always end up abandoning one of them. I have to keep sole focus on one story or I'll slowly get less interested in the others. That, or I'll start making them too similar.
