This thread is to share the different ways in which your dreams have influenced your comics or novels. Feel free to drop a link to your series, too!

As for me, I had a dream about my comic the other night and decided to draw it. One of the most interesting things about it was that my dream drawings were a totally different, much simpler style than I usually draw in. The first picture below is my dream drawing, and the second picture is the most recent panel I drew for my actual comic to show the contrast.

and here's the link to my comic if anyone's interested.

I love your art style!

Quite a few scenes in my novel are dream/nightmare-inspired, especially around my fifth chapter, known as The Return. Some elements of that chapter were drawn straight from dreams that I've had. If you're interested, please feel free to check it out!

My dreams are rather mundane and can't offer any inspiration.

For example today I dreamed that the fence around my house was removed. That's it. big woop.

That’s so interesting! This topic really shows how creative people are. Cause we all have dreams but to actually bring them to life by making a comic or a work of art out of them doesn’t come easy to everyone.

Parts of my comic were inspired by my dreams as well. I did tweak some aspects of it over the years though. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts:grin:

You have a great art style! Love the vibrance. :heartbeat:

I defintely am very influenced by my dreams for both my art and writing. My character Stellar has apocalyptic visions which are pulled from actual dreams I have had.

Hey Hello!

Haha my comic is all about dreams and I try to incorporate some of my actual ones into the story! I dream a lot about work, being back in school, and sharks, so I'm trying to plan future chapters around those. One of the dreams mentioned in my story is how a man followed me into a cave and turned into a bear! Thank goodness I woke up in time. Another dream I had was when I was walking along a highway and I saw a man riding a bicycle with a car in the basket! I know weird  But I can't wait to turn that into a chapter.

Here's my series if anyone's interested:

I have a comic entirely based on dreams actually and its almost a decade old
It also explores consciousness, altered states, etc. etc. It's pretty long and was started in highschool so forgive me if its a bit wonky.

Thank you! I don't usually read novels on tapas (I just get overwhelmed by lots of text on a phone screen), but I subbed to yours because I was really sucked in by the first issue. Looking forward to getting to the fifth chapter and seeing the dream-inspo!

hahaha. I have really epic dreams some nights and other dreams it's just about me anxiously waiting for an email or something equally drab and annoying

Oh my! Your art style is really colorful and pretty! :revolving_hearts:
To the topic, I have to say a lot of things in my novel are inspired by my dreams (well, rather nightmares mostly). More so, my character Azrael was created after a very vivid nightmare I had and I don't know why but slowly I added more and more to him so that he is the main antagonist now. :joy:
But one of my paintings that was inspired by a dream (which wasn't fully a nightmare luckily) was this one:

Either way, I think it's very interesting for some creators to be inspired by their dreams and nightmares because in a way they are a part of our fantasy too.
Just in case anyone is interested I will leave a link to my novel here because the more I think about it the more I think my dreams were fuel to create this novel.

Thank you! Big compliment coming from such an amazing artist. I like how you incorporate images into your novel. Having jus finished an illustrated novel (not on tapas) I feel so much respect and solidarity with other people doing similar things haha. Excited to see where your story goes

I love your art style and your unique concept! I used to have a reoccurring dream about sharks but it's been a while haha. Subbed

Ooooh, my dreams are actually the reason much of my novel's world is so colourful. They inspire my art also.

Thank you - this is so sweet of you! :heartbeat: Well, ch.22 is coming out at the end of this month! And same, I always love meeting fellow artists/writers.

One dream gave me the idea of a new power for my protagonist.......not gonna say what because i avoid spoilers. All i can say is that the idea was.......fascinating

I've never had a dream about my comic's world or characters. Wish I would though.

I really liked the beginning of your novel, and your painting is beautiful! It looks so soft and lifelike (and scary lol). Subbed.

Aww! Thank you, I appreciate it! And well, my art style is a mix of semi realism and my own take at it, so I am very glad to hear it seems life like to you. :revolving_hearts: :cry_02: To the scary... I know, sometimes I just love to paint creepy stuff don't ask me why, I have no idea. (Blame my dreams for being weird or creepy lol)

I will check out your comic as well once I have time :revolving_hearts:

Sometimes I actually do get ideas from my dreams and implement them into my comics. A perfect example is the villain in episode 5 Willie (The Wall) Wilson was a character I saw fighting in action in one of my dreams. I thought he was an interesting enough character to put into Peacemaker Chronicles (2020) and useful power to establish stakes for a hero. But I'm not gonna spoil the details, because you can see him in action in episode 5!

I get most of my plot ideas from my dreams XD I have mainly lucid dreams, so I get to be in control and my dreams look more like movie plots than the usual weird random stuff...

My comic Ups and Downs is actually based on several dreams I've had:

The first one was a dream in which my oc Stefan was a superhero trying to keep his identity secret to his roommate Mikhail, by pretending he was just really into cosplay.

The second dream was about Mikhail being an Angel being invited to the Demons and Angels truce prom and flirting aggressively with any Demons there...

In the end, my comic is about Mikhail who is an Angel who has to hide his secret nature from his roommate Stefan, but he's pretty good at hiding the fact that he's an Angel because he's naturally terrible at being an Angel.

Here's the link!

I don't know if I've ever taken comic inspiration directly from dreams, but I do find that I consistently have my best writing ideas directly before or after falling asleep (the trick is to write them down immediately so you don't forget). So I definitely think there's something to the idea that sleeping and dreaming activates something new in our creative mind.

I did do this visual dream journal of some of my most vivid nightmares last year. I do want to eventually use some of the more horrifying imagery later in my comic.

I like that drawing; it's a really cool art style! I also get a lot of ideas late at night

Thanks I hope you're encouraged to check out my comic! And if you do let me know what you think!

This is based on a weird dream I had on these two characters from my comic, basically the guy with the crown was wearing a shirt with him and his friend on it. XD I actually believe it's something he would definitely do so I doodled it lol

I tend to dream about things that are very adjacent to real life, so I don't often get inspiration from them. But a while back, I had this dream about some kids exploring a swamp with one heck of a jump scare. The dream itself felt like reading a good comic, and when I woke up, it took a minute to realize the difference.

I made a comic about this not long ago:

The dream itself wouldnt actually make for a very good comic in real life, but the experience was noteworthy :smile_01: if only because it made me feel like I eat, sleep, and dream comics haha
