For some time I had an idea of writing a story but readers would make a decision in the comments as the main character. Let's say that our main character is in a situation where he can save only one person (father or mother) and people in the comments would vote. Then after few days, the votes would be count and the story will be written as a readers decision.

What are your thoughts? Is it a good idea?

I love the idea. That is the kind of story that always gets me to immerse. I did a couple of pools on Twitter to name my dragon for example. The issue will be to handle your frustration if you don't get many participations.

It's a really interesting idea with lots of potential, however, it relies on an active audience. In the meantime of building up readership, you can either start with another project to be better known or start with a non-interactive early chapter......

I saw it done with a fanfiction in twitter that had a polls after each major chapter. The story has elements of suspense, mystery, and a bit of unusual format. It was a fanfiction of a popular media so there are a lot of voters. There was a fanbase that was automatically a readership for the said fanfiction but the storytelling and the interactive choices added a lot. It was quite popular in Twitter some time ago.

So in short. Good idea but need at least a few regular readers that would vote.
Maybe in the future, I'll do this

I think it could work like those little interactive games. They start with a plot so you get to know some characters, and eventually the choices come in. I’d be interested in reading something like that.

I've done my fair share of Interactive Stories through Visual Novels and they are definitely very popular. IF (Interactive Fiction) has its own community. Majority of IF authors use Twine or ChoiceScript. I don't know if Tapas is the right platform for it though. You essentially have to build an Interactive Fiction audience here on Tapas. You'd probably also have to invite other Interactive Fiction Authors to post on Tapas. Unfortunately, places like Itch.io or IF webhosts are already catered to IFs (ie. people can click on choices and the game changes in real time), so to create one in Tapas would be a bit of hurdle.

If you're going for "real time choice", take into consideration that is nobody is patient enough to wait a couple of days. The real time choices I've seen have max 24 hours to lock in the votes. People have very short attention spans so unless you already have chapters written to get readers hooked, people might just opt out.

So, once you already have chapters written, you gotta make separate story "routes". You'd basically doing twice the work, since you have to create branching story lines for the choices.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I know this sounds daunting but there are writers out there who are doing this very well. Look around the IF forums and do your own research. IFs are great and super immersive! Once you find a loyal audience, I'd say it's super worth it.
