First we had the spammed up inbox, filled daily with spam links to spam novels/comics that I will never, ever read because A) they're spam and B) Tapas won't even allow us to at least have spam that aligns with our interests delivered.

Then we had the severely reduced capacity to earn ink. Just before Inksgiving, too.

Then we had the intrusive-bordering-on-harassing code changes to the website that if you use a mobile browser such as Chrome or Safari instead of their app, they beat you over the head with popups to install the app. These popups actually break the site because they will not let you do anything until you click the X, and then when you click the X you get kicked out of the comic you were reading. Then when you go back into that comic to finish it, if you want to leave a comment, you get another popup trying to force-feed you the app, which, when you click X (again) you get kicked out of the comment, losing what you've typed.

Now, in a development that seems to have just happened today, the "Mark all as read" button on the desktop notifications page does nothing. All of the spam links to spam novels and spam comics still show unread. My guess is that they made this change to force you to actually click on the spam comic/novel links before you can mark them as read. They're even trying to break the desktop version of the site!

Well, guess what, Tapas? It ain't gonna work! I don't care if my inbox shows two million new notifications, I will not click on any of those links! You won't break me!

I don't think it's them trying to force us to read those, I think it may be a bug - clicking on them also doesn't remove the notifications and the mark all read button stopped working for me on the activity page as well

Having the same issue with Firefox on desktop. Not even the old trick of holding Ctrl while clicking on "mark all read" works anymore.

...However, it's also true that the site seems to be having problems loading pages in general. I tried clicking on one of the premium comics to see if the notification would go away, it didn't open. Can't access my user profile either. Clicking on a notification on my "activity" tab didn't make said notification go away. So yep, looks like a bug.

I feel your pain my friend, this mark all read button seem to do nothin in true. Tired of these villaness suggestions haunting mah eyesockets XD
Maybe there is some website glitching as the previous commentors state, never experienced the mobile app popup but maybe as I already have the app installed? But can imagine how annoying that would feel reading or commenting only to have it ruined by this popop. Hope they fix it eventually
What they should done for creators atleast was put the 'author wall notifications' on the app.

Wow! Now if you mark all as read, those pesky notifications actually disappear. When Tapas first rolled out that rather unnecessary change, you did have to click on the links for the notifications to go away. I guess they finally got the memo.

Huh, I can mark mine as read… I have noticed that they’ve gone from sending two spam mails a day to more like 5-7
Kind of off topic, but I don’t like the tapas app. It feels like it was set up for readers, not creators. Can’t find my way around it.

Yeah tapas spam annoys me pls let me turn your villainess spam off!! Even their dungeon hunter manhwa looks like the same generic stuff and this is coming form someone who actually like action manhwa. BE MORE CREATIVE PLS ;-; !!!!

I've had this bug from the start of using Tapas. Sometimes I have to click several times to get it to clear my notifications, or I leave for a bit, come back later (Usually about like 5 mins) and then it works again. :^P

Usually, I'll click mark all read. Nothing happens, but then I'll refresh and the notifs clear.
Might have to do it twice for it to go away.

Enshittfication.

The act of companies intentionally making their services increasingly worse in the belief it will motivate users to pay a lot for a not shit version.

Ex- YouTube. Any airline.

guys, looks like it's back to normal (as in we're still getting spammed but mark all read button works, on firefox you need to click it with ctrl held to clean up the premium comics spam section)

I just noticed it's working again. The fact that it wasn't has me suspicious of what they were doing with the feature to break it though,,,

going by mine professional gamedev experience, it could have been something completely unrelated at the first glance but connected by some deep under the hood system which would explain while no one noticed it before whatever changed went live
or maybe some kind of browser update they didn't react fast enough

luckily, it seems like it's nothing as bad as the recent discord app ui change : P

1 year later

Can't help you with most of it as I have the world's oldest phone, so nothing works in the browser, anyway.
BUT I was using desktop today and had the same "mark as read" bug happen to me.
I had clicked several time on the button and nothing changed, but then I clicked on the "gifts" button, suddenly the notifications under messages disappeared.
I assume it's an issue with the page needing to respond to the new input.
I had refreshed the page several times without any luck, but somehow when I actively changed what I was doing, it woke up and registered the results.
