I've been looking at these for a while and i want to know how good they are. if you have any of these please share your experience. I've always used Wacom pen tablet and i'd like to get a screen tablet but those prices isn't something i want to spend because they are extremely expensive and wacom is getting very greedy.

I myself bought one for less than 300 by Huion and so far it works very well and is alot of fun and I feel more freedom with it. I mean I think its a good investment, but I would go for the much cheaper versions first before I ever invest in the larger more expansive ones.

If I were purchasing a screen tablet, I'd save for a Wacom... Industry standard reliability goes a long way in ensuring a good workflow. Plus, you won't have to replace it for a good 5 to 10 years, by which point, if you take commissions, it should have paid for itself. I worked in retail tech long enough that I really took to heart the lessons against buying cheap things which just aren't up-to-snuff, only to have to upgrade them later when the limitations begin to really slow you down.

I had a big Wacom once (I use an iPad now, as I was moving around a lot for a while) and it was amazing. Never had a single issue with it. Amazing machine.

I found a review you may want to read over. The artist testing the XP-Pen is a webcomic artist, and this was tested in 2020. They're the first things I look at when I start shopping around for expensive tech.

All that said, while the review is lukewarm, there are a few comments underneath which describe the opposite experience. So it really can come down to personal luck. If you've never used a screen tablet before, starting with a cheaper one may be a good option.

I haven't tried either, but I've been stalking Brad Colbow's channel to see what screen tablets he likes best so when this epidemic is over, I can actually like--test it at a store myself I maybe buy one. Anyways, he reviewed both of these.

He liked them! I trust the guy, personally because he reviews tons of these tablets and actually uses them quite a bit.

It's a pretty massive tablet though, so I would personally be wary of how to fit it on a desk--but sounds like it's good for being 1/3 the price of a cintique. I would just really want to test it myself because it apparently does color a little bit more muted than reality because of a matte finish, and I'm hella weird, and I don't really like matte finish on tablets. The biggest issue he brought up is dealing with installing on a mac, where it apparently is kind of a problem, and apparently people had issues with the pen calibration on the older model as well.

I'm glad you brought this up, because most non-Wacom tablets that have "wacom quality" reviews are illegitimate. Companies like Huion and XP-Pen are notorious for sending people free tablets in exchange for good reviews.

I've used two Wacoms and currently use an iPad Air with pretty damn satisfactory results. The non-celular, base memory version of the iPad Air 2020 retails for about $550, which is cheaper than one of the tablets OP shared. I think it would be worth it just to get the iPad and a cheap stylus. Even better if you can save up a bit more for the apple pencil. And you can get an older iPad Pro model for around the same price if not cheaper.

yea that looks really GREAT thanks for sharing. that might be just the one i'm going to get. but one of my worries is the distance b/w pen and courser. like is there a slight lag when drawing? i've heard many people complain about this with the old Wacom product. i believe the 13" cintiq wacom hd display.

yea thats true. its better to save up and buy a industry standard brand however it's just way too expensive for me. over the years i have used Wacom since 2010 and their price point has escalated so much i'm so tired of paying such high price. My art is a hobby and i don't make much from it. no to mention i just bought a 27" IMAC computer and still paying it off so i cant afford another high priced item. it's financially stressful for someone who isn't making a living off their artwork.
another reason why i'm getting the XP-Pen is because i want to give other products a chance.

I was looking at Huion as well but wasn't sure how good it was. glad to know its working for you, i'll take a look at it again.

Eh, Its more cus I'm cheap. I used a basic huion screen less tablet before for less than 15 dollars.

Here were the cons:
And my issues were more due to compatibility with certain drawing programs. I had to find the right driver on their site(free so just took time) to make it work if I switched to different program since there was an issue with the tablet if I didn't. But once I stuck with one (clip paint) I saw no other issue after that since most of their drivers work with that anyway.

Really it still works and I bought it 2017

With my current screen tablet my issues were not compatibility related at all. (albeit I only use clip paint so Im not sure how it does on other programs. And I only bought it last Christmas.)

Kanvas

My issue was due to a very slight color difference on the on the screen compared to my computer. I mean it didn't bother me too much since I was using it more for drawing and sketching and I constantly double check my computer screen due to habit when I color. So color correction is usually done anyway.

That's just me.

I never saw a point in buying a brand name product right away when they are soooo expensive. Might as well buy the cheaper version and see how you like it, for us poverty ridden fools.

LOL thats good. I don't blame you. I usually get what i want but honestly i'm so so tired of Wacom prices. i need an alternative because my hobby is getting way too expensive and i need to cut cost somewhere lol. just bought a $2700 IMAC computer and i'm still paying for that lol

The truth I doubt I could ever afford Wacom (really dislike the monopoly they have really. I kinda see them as freaking apple). I also draw as hobby myself and I don't even have a stable job so my first option will always be cheaper.

I mean, put myself before my hobbies you know. Lesser quality, yes. But gets the job done, also yes.

I use a Huion a Kamvas pro 20 (on a HUGE sale back then) and I don't have any issue.
When I first installed it I had lots of troubles, but most of them because I've never had a second screen before so I fucked up a lot. After that first time, setting it in a new pc was no problem at all. The only remarkable issue I've had with it it's the calibration: it's really poor by default, but nothing you can't fix with a bit of time.

It's been two years and a half and it still works perfectly. I use it daily for work and for drawing, which means that I'm constantly moving it from vertical stance to a more drawing-friendly position.

Like you I'd prefer a Wacom but the prices are outrageous compared to other brands so I took my chances with this Huion and I don't regret it. I even consider repeating brand the day this one dies (let's hope it won't happen anytime soon!).

I hope this will help even though I feel I've spoken like a Huion fan haha! If it means something, I was using a Wacom Intuos Pro M before the switch to a screen type and I didn't notice any difference in terms of pen pressure, quality or drivers accessibility

Yeah that distance of the courser to the screen was something I hated about older Wacoms when I could rent them at school. It's a bit of a learning curve to know where your curser is--and the lag is a mix of your computer power as well as the tablet itself, so sometimes it's hard to tell if a reviewer just has a bad computer or if maybe their art style uses a ton of layers and huge brushes?

I'm waiting until I can safely walk into a best buy and try em myself.

I use a Huion Kamvas Pro 22 with a Mac and it works great. No difficulty setting it up. Maybe a little difficulty calibrating colors. I really appreciate the twenty buttons which I didn't think I'd need, but actually have turned out to be indispensable. I've had it for two years now and it has proved durable and mostly scratch free. If I was to upgrade, I'd want to go even larger, but Huion will certainly be the first place I turn to when the time comes.

see that was my worry and i'm so glad you cleared things up. but what about the distance between the pen nib and the screen? is there a slight lag? thats another concern of mine. I have heard that that lag is something you'd have to get use to and it bothers me due to the fact that i dont currently have that issue with my tablet. i dont want to invest in a new tablet and have to endure that.

and oh, thank you for giving your experience. I appreciate it :relaxed:

lol that is something i'm not sure i'm ready for which is why i keep waiting for upgrades to come out however in the process of waiting, those wacom prices are down to an arm and a leg just to get one and it hurts the soul lol. so is it something that is corrected now? or is it something you have to get use to?

From what I've heard, now many tablets, not just Wacom, have the screen built in such a way so that illusion of the distance between the pen and the image is barely much at all. But you have to check for it.

To be honest, the real struggle I had the first days is the fact that I am drawing directly on the screen and my own hand felt annoying after years working with the Wacom. It took me some days to get used to it haha!

Apart from that, no lag or big gaps between the pen and the cursor. Like everything that's new, it just takes time getting used to it before working properly :>

I have the xp pen artist 15.6, and while I haven't been using it for my webcomic until literally yesterday (I've been using an ipad since my last computer died and I needed to get a new cable in order to use my regular monitor and xp pen on the new one) I do like it, and think it's worth the money, though mine was one of the cheaper versions. Setup can be a bit fiddly, and calibration is never quite perfect, but you get used to the slight difference in pen vs. cursor placement. It's definitely more compatible with some programs than others.

I will say that my last PC had a bit of an issue with overheating whenever I used it, but it generally had an issue with overheating towards the end. A friend of mine who has the same tablet says she's also had some issues with her macbook (don't recall which model), so that might be a concern. My new PC has 5 fans so it hasn't been a problem lol
