Ooh, you could check out my comic Breaking the Lore. It's set in Anglo Saxon Northumbia, with a bit of a magical twist based on Northumbrian folklore. It's completed too, so you don't have to wait around for updates!

Looks promising, I subscribed so I can read more when I have the time! I'm a fan of the unique art style; it's very aesthetically pleasing to my eye.

Hell yeah- this is right up my alley- thank you so much for sharing your comic! <3 (slavic mythology, history and folklore are a total winning combination for me- but your artwork is beautiful too!)

Ooh this does look pretty cool. I got through a bit of it so far, and will definitely be returning to read more in my spare time. But also- wow, you've worked on so many different comics and a whole variety of themes. I took the liberty of following you on social media, just to find out what you'll be up to next x)

You're very welcome! I'm really excited to work on it, I have a lot of story planned and about 5 episodes finished so far (so 5 confirmed updates, at least  ) I'm Polish so it's deeply inspired by my culture, I've always had such a fascination with Slavic fables and mythology. Thanks for checking it out!

Ah. neat  Always good to have a buffer prepared! I'm from Ukraine (have since immigrated)- although I have to admit my attachment to the culture has left its mark mostly in the form of my love for 70s Soviet movies and rock bands like Mashina Vremeni, so not quite Ukrainian per se x) Still, I grew up with Slavic folklore and it still very much resonates with me.

Awesome! Yeah, my family and I immigrated from Poland when I was 3, so I'm very much Polish-American, but we lived in Chicago (which has a huge Polish community) so luckily I was able to be immersed in the culture even though we moved away! Always cool to have that connection to another place  But yes, my comic is a love letter to the Slavic culture (of course, with a lot of creative liberties taken, as it's not exactly historically accurate, haha). I hope you enjoy it!

Awesome, thank you!!!
A lot of my stuff does fall under the historical fantasy umbrella, although my current ongoing comic Earth in a Pocket is more sci-fi-for-people-who-like-historical-stuff ;D

Great to see this post! I'm also looking for interesting Historical Fiction/Historical Fantasy stuff so I was happy to see the comics linked here.
My comic 'The Change' is set in the 13th Century in Provence. It is a mix of historical fiction and fantasy. https://tapas.io/series/The-Change-4

I was really excited to find this! Read the whole thing! Wonderful art and excellent storytelling! <3

Oh, I always hesitate to advertise mine as historical (I get the feeling most people are repelled by that tiny word) but it sure has a lot of references to medieval Japan (horse gear, armor, architecture...) - and lots of fantasy.
It's manga-styled, action packed and lots of warfare. If someone likes such stuff, you can check it out here on tapas5

Eeee thank you! <3
I'm hoping to spruce it up a bit and create a print version later this year. I just have to get my head around kickstarter first...

Yeah, I can see having that worry, for sure- x) "historical" does seem to be one of those words that occasionally shuts down the other person's mind or loses their attention when you say it, because they're so used to the idea of "history being boring". But in all fairness, I figure if the person is already so deeply convinced of that, they probably aren't your audience to begin with? Your comic looks fantastic by the way. I absolutely love your inkwork, and it seems like a perfect fit for the setting you're trying to evoke. I've subscribed :3

Haha, yeah, but on the other hand movies and series like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings mix historical elements with fantasy so well that people don't shy away :3 I think it's always about how you sell it and then let the reader decide ^^/ That said, I really wish history classes were more entertaining back in my school days xD I hated everything that was related to middle age until I saw a few very good movies.I was a really ignorant kid, haha.

Thank you <3 I hope you enjoy it and will see you around from time to time

Do ones that just happen to take place in the Victorian Age still count as historical even if they are just made up events?

Considering that I am counting my own comic into the genre- and it's set in a sort of alternate reality where the Carolingian Empire never fractured, the territory of Epirus is a conquered empire of literal satyrs, magic is real, and everything takes place in a fictional colony underground?

Yeah, I'd say it counts! x)

Honestly, when I think about it- if I had to create a working definition for historical fantasy to differentiate it from- say- a Lord of the Rings style high fantasy setting that is only really "medieval" in the cosmetic sense- I'd say you're looking for a world that shows signs of historical research. So long as some attempt at alternate history or real-world points of reference is there in the world-building, I think "historical fantasy" applies.

P.S. I'm actually curious now to hear how others would define it (yes, bit of a tangent, I know- but since you asked...)

Then here is mine! It is a retelling of Jekyll and Hyde. I hope you're still interested.

Well, it’s not historical fantasy, but my world does have a sort of old-fashioned aesthetic to it. It contains technology and fashions inspired by eras as diverse as the sixteenth all the way up to the nineteenth century. Furthermore, it is rooted in those eras due to the fact that the dwarves’ supertechnology made any further development unnecessary.
