Novels on Tapas

I’ve used Wattpad for years now to create original stories, back then it was pretty okay, and you would have a good chance on getting a lot of reads. Now, since you have to pay for premium, they don’t really show smaller creators anymore like they used to and the viewer count has dramatically changed.

I want to write a book that I really cherish, but I don’t think Im going to publish on Wattpad. So I was curious if tapas would be any better!

I've personally really enjoyed publishing my novel on tapas - it can be a little tough finding readers sometimes (the site's mostly for comics, after all) but the community on here is really supportive.

Novels have a harder time finding visibility on Tapas than Comics do, but I get a LOT more engagement than wattpad, and the engagement is usually friendlier. It's definitely worth at least dipping your toes in the water.

There's definitely no harm in trying. In my experience, novelists on Tapas tend to struggle to find an audience, as they pretty much get buried under their literature peers or all of the comics that have a much heavier presence. But it isn't impossible to create a following here. It just take perseverance.

It's worth trying, there are always readers if you know where to find them. Though I'm still in the progress of crossposting all my work to Tapas, only my BL has taken off (BL is short for Boylove, basically man x man, etc).

I'm new to Tapas and have recently posted a novel on here. I can imagine finding readers is tough. I posted only yesterday and haven't garnered any views at all. I know it's only been a day but I am a bit disappointed.

I get it. I was on wattpad for a long time, too, and some of the same tricks work on here as they do there: read others writing, be active on the forums. It does take a minute (I've been on here for about a year, and it's still a fight to get subscribers sometimes), but you'll get there.

First, welcome to Tapas. I'm fairly new here myself but I am a published author, so this arena is more of an experiment for me than a serious venue. That said, I have posted all 52 chapters of one of my fantasy books and the response has been interesting.

I realize Tapas is more for short/shorts and comics but I think if you are determined to write a novel, then do it. The process is very easy and I found it fun to do - especially since you can include graphics in your novel chapters. That's something I have found extremely difficult at Amazon, B&N and other venues. Their systems are just not geared for embedded artwork.

To offer a bit of advice, try your best to eliminate grammar, spelling and tense errors. I see a LOT of that in Tapas presentations and I guess it does not matter to people who read on cell phones, etc. They are after a quick, entertaining read without too much concern for proper writing but you never know when a Hollywood producer might see your work and come knocking. It happens! Good luck, whatever you decide.

I post to Tapas and Wattpad, and I've had a lot more interaction on Tapas. The community on here has been really good as well, and I've gotten some really nice feedback on my novel. I've been on here for about 7 months, and I haven't had any big issues with it. I'd recommend Tapas over Wattpad.

What you could do is publish on both Tapas AND Wattpad?

I know writing a novel on Tapas for me can be a struggle, since Tapas mainly focuses on comics, but when you find your comfort zone and a good amount of supporters, I think you’ll enjoy it?
Mind you, this is coming from someone with barely any subscribers who only posts on Tapas, but I think it’s good advice? Mainly just make sure that you enjoy it, and try not to focus too much on having subscribers and whatnot.

Hi there! I haven't been on Tapas for a long time, but the website is indeed more turned towards comics. Now, I couldn't say that there are no readers, but it may take a little more time to build up your audience.

But the big plus is the community: really nice, supportive and non-toxic. (I've started publishing only two months ago and on Webnovel )

Now, you could try publishing on Tapas, Wattpad and on Webnovel, if you'd like, to gather more readers.

Definitely! I have finished my novel already so I am posting it bit by bit and am anxious to get feedback and interact with readers, I guess.

I feel like for most authors, Wattpad is a bad deal to post on. The time investment to set everything up, and post each chapter at the right times (in the Year of Our Lord 2021 that site still doesn't have chapter scheduling), and then the near inevitability of disappointing results, make it hard to recommend. Smaller sites, weirdly, have more options for story discovery.

I tried webnovel, wattpad, tapas, and one more I forgot name of... All of them were horrible except Tapas... Tapas is only platform rich with features and with good community from these four. I'm not sure if there is better platform, but I can say Tapas that is not even focused on novel, but comics, is much more better for novel creators than other platforms that primarily focus on novels. Don't know why, and I would also like to get some recommendations for other platforms. For now I stick with just Tapas.

I've liked posting my novel to Tapas. I don't have a huge amount of subs, though they're still trickling in, but I do have a core of people who engage with every update and it always makes me smile when those familiar names pop up in my notifications Like others have said, the community here is great for novelists!

Hey Red.....it took me 14 days to post all 52 chapters. Once I got a handle on the uploading process, the last 40 chapters went very quickly. As for views, etc. those were fast and furious initially but have since dwindled to 20 or 30 a day, sometimes less. I've not made a big effort to get subscribers as I feel like those will come with time. Blackgloom is a fairly well known fantasy title as are the other two books in the series, so I'm not surprised that the Tapas version is taking off like a lead balloon. That's okay, though - I'm more interested in seeing what audience Tapas can provide, given that most readers here are looking for short segs with more of a comic book design. Good luck with your Tapas experience. Mine has been a real hoot.

Hello, I have been on wattpad for years too and I was reading through the replies of this post. From what I have experienced with other platforms is for your first novel you should cross-post and connect with other readers and writers so they can support you and you can support them. The replies on this post all seem very helpful and I have had this one question for a while now. What is the typical word count for a chapter on tapas? Because I feel like my chapters might be too long for tapas.

I just started posting my first novel back in May- to both Tapas and Wattpad- one chapter/week, avg 1700 words. I have had a far better experience on Tapas- more views, subscribes, and engagement. I'm up to about 900 total views on Tapas, but only 36 on Wattpad. I may even discontinue posting to Wattpad altogether.
