Novels on Tapas

The max supported is 3k words, but editors and authors advise it to be around 1000-2000 words(mine are 1500-1800 average) because reading in a mobile screen might be bit tiresome for larger chunks of text.

I just started today, I was a writer in wattpad to but I think my recent work is best suited in Tapas in a form of novel.

Tapas says that the 'perfect' word count per episode is 800 - 1200 words. I don't know how average that is compared to other works, but it's what Tapas recommends and it's suggested by them if you're planning to submit your work for premium.

I've tried a few places, including Wattpad, and Tapas is the only one I like so far. I removed my novel from Wattpad - never got any views. I agree with everyone else - it can be slow getting started on Tapas, especially for a novel and ESPECIALLY depending on your genre. But the community is much better and more active than other places, and the readers are more engaged. Even when I have readers elsewhere, I rarely get likes or comments or reviews. On Tapas, I have regular readers and back and forths through comments. I've seen those on the forums who disagree, but I've also had a great, supportive experience with the other creators here, both comic and novel. I personally really enjoy the mix. We all have our strengths and can learn from each other. And I'm an art whore and just really like reading comics. ^^

As @Kuma said, Tapas has the most user-friendly dashboard and editing tools I've seen. There are some web novel sites that don't even allow any formatting (why would you build a web novel site and not give me the ability to italicize??) and the reader experience isn't great either.

I would come in with realistic expectations, however. I'm sure it's possible, but it is rare for a new creator to be noticed quickly and gather a bunch of views right off the bat here. And depending on your genre, it may take longer than you like. But the readers are out there and once you get started, it's really fun.

Do you maybe know anything about the "Fresh" category? When I've first posted on here and when I update, I never see my novel appear there.

I've read that you have to have a certain (low) number of subs or likes or something to start showing under fresh, but never checked it. Does anyone know if this is true? Maybe @joannekwan or @ratique or @victoria1 or some other more appropriate mod I should be asking...?

I heard the same thing that until you get either number of chapters or subs high enough you won’t show up on the app, only on the web.

For OP’s question, I try my stuff on both Tapas and Wattpad, storing all my books on Wattpad because there is better circulation there for finished books, and only keeping book on Tapas while it’s posting, unless I luck out and it blows up. So far, I didn’t get a huge book on either site, but I just keep writing.

The biggest drawback for novels on Tapas is that there is absolutely no circulation for completed books and the Binge section that should take care of it is not being used at all.

So how are we supposed to get a lot of subs if we don't even show up on the app? That's where most of the readers are.

Honestly it depends on your genre! If your novel matches the general storytelling style of a lot of the popular stories on Tapas, you're likely to do well here. If it doesn't, you might not get much attention. You should try to find the online platform with the reader base that best matches what you're writing and post your novel there. (You can also cross-post it on multiple sites to find where it gets the most traction.)
