So this idea for a sort of event popped into my head last night for some reason.

The concept is it's sort of an "all access" version of the Winter Fest that starts with one short comic about a simple character that anyone can add onto the story in their own way and put the link to in the comment section of it so people can find it,
and then other people can respond to the responses
and others to those and so on...
The idea being after a while you could go to the first post and follow any path and end up pretty much anywhere and then direct the story how you want it to go.

I don't really know, it sounded interesting to me smile

I like it!
There should be a simple looking character that anyone can draw.
Then each episode can be a part of an adventure!

How about a stick figure-esque character?

Something absurdly simple.
Then it can grow into something cool!

I like that idea. It would also help it grow a whole lot faster

I would jump in on this! A simplistic character would be the best.

Question would be the scenery / locations / geography for backgrounds, or is it more of a one shot each time someone picks up the torch so to speak?

I think the background would most likely be just white. But if anyone did have a more detailed and/or colored background I doubt it would really be a problem...

I think each response would simply be how they wanted the story to go from that point it's in.
Like, if there was a part where the main character* approached a door at the end of it.
One person could have him open the door, another kick it down, or just look in the peephole.
What's on the other side is also up to them. And any further interaction is something either they could do or simply stop it there and let someone else add onto that.

*or some other character added at some point...

I like the white background, and then an artist can decide if they want to do a random gasm of color or background to throw this poor character off every now and then.

What if we have that stick-man character go from one comic to another as if it has the ability to move between different universes.

Funny quick appearances in other series?

Could be funny as it travels from slice of life comics to dark and gritty ones.

Question would be, can Mr.Stickman communicate? He is a stick figure after all...

I can actually see in my comic my main character asking how he managed to figure out interdemensional travel and taking notes... as Mages do. I could see the little guy flailing about trying to communicate.

yeah, something like @CalConstantine says.
I thought that since he's a stickman, he would represent the origin of comics; the first step towards a complete creation whether it's a simple thing to the most complex ones. So he wields within him all the possibilities he can become and that's why he can go anywhere in the world of comics.
I think it would be funny if he had like a little board with a stick where he writes things he wants to say, like Elisabeth in the manga Gintama.

I had a character forever ago when I was about 7 that I named Flint the Lint, and he was literally an animated piece of lint (depicted as a little scribble with stick arms and legs)....he would make a more interesting character than a stick man

(a rough image drawn with my finger (touchscreen laptop) in about 30 seconds...)

omg this is beautiful
@Aloredd Flint the Lint is super cute!! how awesome would it be for your super old character to become an epic legend as the [PATH] goes on ;v;

How would this be organised, exactly? On the forum? I just keep thinking abt another site where several author accounts could work on one webcomic buuuuut i guess that takes away from it being an open story for anyone at any time.

O ye. I kind of got the impression that alternate Paths in a choose-your-own-adventure would end up happening. idk if i like it but i imagine such alternate timelines could occur in situations where several ppl pick up on a story thread at once. could get complicated fast :'D

As a rule of thumb, I think each episode available should at first be stand-alone, meaning it can hold on its own episodically.
This way there will be no continuity errors.
Basically, any universe he enters, he has start off in a white canvas and end in a white canvas. That way the idea can keep moving in a line and anyone can join in.

@vincentprendick idk i think part of the fun is working within the same continuity and building all that character and events to keep track of (like, if i leave my entry with this kind of development, then what will the next person do with that?). if it ever got so big that it was hard to catch up with, that'd be another matter though.
i might have misunderstood you though in which case i apologize;;;

I do think the story should evolve as it goes along, but "at first" I think it should start off as stand alone, just to experiment with the creators involved.

what if we make stand alone stories but we see how the character jumps from one to the other. Like let's say @vincentprendick starts doing the first part, then at the end, our Mr Stickman jumps to my comic and I give @vincentprendick one panel from mine so he can add it as his final scene and I can continue the second part.

That does sound good, albeit a little difficult.

I still think that we should start out with stand alones for a couple of episodes, just so we can get the hang of things.
To have them link from one episode to the next could be a goal to work on once we got a dedicated group going, then MAYBE we can start to move things forward.

I dunno.
We can't force anything. If we want to continue something from someone else's episode, that's up to them.

see, you're imagining a dedicated group but i was imagining it as a sort of "look i did a continuation leaves it on thread or wherever" then someone sees it, gets an idea and continues. ofc, that depends on where it would all happen. i've noticed tho that this forum starts loading more slowly w/ large quantity of posts since it doesn't have pages in topics.

Oh okay I see. Still, even someone isn't dedicated, it would make it easy for anyone to join in at their own pace if there was a beginning and an end that could be counted on. Just a thought. We could in fact come up with a simple system, like say "hey I just finished a new episode. Anyone willing to continue it?"
Of course, with the blank-slate beginning and end, it would be easier for anyone to jump in.
We should at least come up with the basic stuffs to center a story on.
