I myself gotten bad comments pretty often, especially when I was posting in webtoon Indonesia in the first half of 2016.

They range from short idiotic comments to longer idiotic comments and many of them were baseless opinions/critics

Most people who hated my comic didn't like that I wasn't drawing at all and used this instead https://store.steampowered.com/app/262490/Manga_Maker_Comipo/25
(which isn't against the rules)

At first I've had a troll who spammed all my chapters with rude comments, in most of them he called my comic "trash", in others he said the application I was using was "trashy" and he often got replies from my fans and was told that if he should stop commenting and if he doesn't like my series he shouldn't read it then he replied them back calling them stupid for liking my comic.
Every time I updated my series he came back at me to hate and I couldn't do anything to stop him from commenting, there were no "delete" or "block" buttons.

As time went by I got other haters too, who didn't comment that much as him. They were also hating on the application,
they were like If you really want to make a comic, draw by yourself, don't use that software

Any comic that's not handrawn is trash, Admit it!

This is not allowed on webtoon, webtoon is for drawings

Why are you using comipo??

This is Webtoon not Comipotoon!

If you want to tell a story, better go to wattpad

that's lazy!

Webtoon is for comic creators not for comic editors moron!

this is trash!

This comic is a crap that should go down the toilet.

Why hate comipo? I'll tell you why, I'm an author I draw by myself, I do the story by myself, comipo is just lazy and it's for those who are lazy and don't want to draw and has graphics like video games have, so guys stop reading comipo comics and read only those that are handrawn. (this one was from a possible liar, I couldn't find their comic)

"Can't draw? write a book"

I do more appreciate a terrible drawn done by the author himself than something looking nice that isn't the author's work

I'll report this

This is disrespectful to the authors who draw by themselves

The fanarts look better than the comic because they are drawn. (yeah I got fanarts.)

art like this isn't allowed on webtoon!

People often complained about the application/software I was using and even assumed I was breaking the rules of webtoon and the copyrights when that was not true at all, although the 3d characters weren't mine neither the backgrounds, I had the right to use them also webtoon never said "don't post comics that aren't drawn" or "our place is for handrawn comics only".

Luckily I don´t get many bad comments.
I think the thing that irked me most at the start of my comic was that everyone compared it to avatar. I haven´t even seen avatar xD. That was probably the only Story with elements many people know? I´d thought it was such a common plot point, it´s like using elves in your story. Common ground.
Well, they´ve died down. Turns out JUNE tells a different story - I think? I still haven´t seen avatar. I only knew about it bc of fanart I´d seen on DA haha.

@Rizzvatt sorry to hear about all those mean comments you have gotten  It´s not like you pretended they were your drawings, or didn´t do research on if you´re allowed to post it. I´m sure there goes a considerable amount into plotting, and posing the characters, as well as typesetting and speech bubbles. I don´t think many Webtoon readers understand a lot about the comic creation process in all it´s glory.

Context this person got banned on a comic server I was on. They tend to have a habit saying all work sucks except theirs. I asked them for a critique when they told me it looked bad and regret it cause I have no idea what they wrote.

I can't hate this one. I would name my character a transformer if I could.

️Yeesh. This one and @JackSherwin's guy just seem like they're desperate to make it look like they know what they're talking about, but CGI? Really? They've probably never heard of sketchup or blender.

Fortunately I'm not popular enough to get many bad comments (most have been pretty nice and supportive), but there was a while ago (during the webtoon contest) that someone just started criticizing my art style and saying it's not worth getting featured :unamused:

I remember I wrote the very first comment on that page and it was a translation of the German text. That person didn't even look at the comments. Next.

Oh, no, it was on Webtoons, so there was still no translation from anybody yet  if somebody would write that after your first comment, I would be offended that you did all this work translating it and he didn't notice that!

What I don't get is that if a writer put a foreign language in a comic without a translation, it's precisely to make the reader guess that some characters won't understand. So it put the reader in the same situation than the characters, which is very immersing. And if the reader understands the language, it does not matter, he will still understand the other characters don't.
I don't see the issue, or how there would be any justification for complain.

And German for an English speaker, frankly... I'm not even speaking about the fact they're both Germanic languages... Same alphabet, if it's so important to the reader to understand, it's just one automatic translation away.

Well, I should say that we raised the bar by taking away the spaces and writing everything with lower case letter  But you are 100% right, it was the "same situation as the characters", and as there were no characters in this last frame to translate this page, we didn't write the translation.
And I am actually feeling better after writing this all here, getting it off my chest and talking to you guys, thank you!

ooh, redesigning steven universe characters is like a magnet for rude people

I actually really enjoy bad comments XD
I had once one weirdo who got very mad at me for ignoring all their drawing requests for free and friendship attempts. But their comments wasn't even about my drawings (mostly about how a terrible human being I am) so it doesn't even count
Like I enjoy being a troll with people who comes to bark at me for no apparent reasons, I guess I scared most of them :sob:
I can take harsh critisism, but free bashing? I never let that pass around.

Also I'm not a fan of the "oh that character of yours looks like xxx from yyy" but I don't get upset at that either, people who say that don't think evil, that's just ignorance from them.

So I wouldn't say it's the worst in terms of like insulting my work or comic but because i really don't know how the heck they came to this conclusion when they read my story and I find it kinda funny

The person replying is another reader lol
In that episode the character wasn't feeling well emotionally and had been lying on the couch all day she does throw up as well but it's been established that this happens to her when she's feeling stressed.

The worst comment I've ever gotten...

Nothing (and that's just for the novels)

I don't really get many comments, but they tend to be kind or from close friends really XD
i have to sat reading these are crazy but some are very interesting XD

I, for one, have understood why people were always so touchy about Steven Universe's art style compared to other shows. I mean, the show itself can't even stay consistent with it's own art style for Pete's sake!

@Mari

Is it wrong that I gouda the first comment, the "This is useless, but keep going anyways." comment pretty funny?

@aqua03

Not at all. I was extremely upset about it for a while (since the comic was about as personal of a thing as it could be), but after I got over that I just found it hilarious.

Yeah, it's like they were thinking. "I think this guy sucks, but I don't wanna seem too mean about it..." The juxtaposition is kind of hilarious in a way.

Oh god... O.O
I feel so sorry for you. These people must be really troubled. I can not imagine they are normal people... Just some brain-dead with hate about other things and they just had to hit it on something.
I think it is not lazy at all to make a comic like this. I think I have a reliable point of view, because I draw and also work with 3D models, so I'm able to compare. To make a great pose in 3d is sometimes as hard or even harder then make it from one point of view. If you don't understand the pose enough it will be visible. And also, you can not cheat with measurements as much as in 2D. Sometimes when I make a sketch in 2D and try to replicate in 3D I realize my idea wasn't correct, but looked correct because it contained cheating.
Your program also requires big amount of effort and time. But if it wouldn't, still bullshit what these guys commented, because if somebody want to tell a story in comic form, she/he has any rights to do it by using any related available program. Doesn't matter how easy it considered...
To make a sandwich from bread and jam is also easy, but I should eat it because of that...? wuuuut?
