What I don't get is that if a writer put a foreign language in a comic without a translation, it's precisely to make the reader guess that some characters won't understand. So it put the reader in the same situation than the characters, which is very immersing. And if the reader understands the language, it does not matter, he will still understand the other characters don't.
I don't see the issue, or how there would be any justification for complain.
And German for an English speaker, frankly... I'm not even speaking about the fact they're both Germanic languages... Same alphabet, if it's so important to the reader to understand, it's just one automatic translation away.
Well, I should say that we raised the bar by taking away the spaces and writing everything with lower case letter But you are 100% right, it was the "same situation as the characters", and as there were no characters in this last frame to translate this page, we didn't write the translation.
And I am actually feeling better after writing this all here, getting it off my chest and talking to you guys, thank you!
I actually really enjoy bad comments XD
I had once one weirdo who got very mad at me for ignoring all their drawing requests for free and friendship attempts. But their comments wasn't even about my drawings (mostly about how a terrible human being I am) so it doesn't even count
Like I enjoy being a troll with people who comes to bark at me for no apparent reasons, I guess I scared most of them
I can take harsh critisism, but free bashing? I never let that pass around.
Also I'm not a fan of the "oh that character of yours looks like xxx from yyy" but I don't get upset at that either, people who say that don't think evil, that's just ignorance from them.
So I wouldn't say it's the worst in terms of like insulting my work or comic but because i really don't know how the heck they came to this conclusion when they read my story and I find it kinda funny
The person replying is another reader lol
In that episode the character wasn't feeling well emotionally and had been lying on the couch all day she does throw up as well but it's been established that this happens to her when she's feeling stressed.
@stnmaren haha omg I fucking love that. It's not as if the whole point of redrawing is that the style is different
I, for one, have understood why people were always so touchy about Steven Universe's art style compared to other shows. I mean, the show itself can't even stay consistent with it's own art style for Pete's sake!
Is it wrong that I gouda the first comment, the "This is useless, but keep going anyways." comment pretty funny?
Not at all. I was extremely upset about it for a while (since the comic was about as personal of a thing as it could be), but after I got over that I just found it hilarious.
Oh god... O.O
I feel so sorry for you. These people must be really troubled. I can not imagine they are normal people... Just some brain-dead with hate about other things and they just had to hit it on something.
I think it is not lazy at all to make a comic like this. I think I have a reliable point of view, because I draw and also work with 3D models, so I'm able to compare. To make a great pose in 3d is sometimes as hard or even harder then make it from one point of view. If you don't understand the pose enough it will be visible. And also, you can not cheat with measurements as much as in 2D. Sometimes when I make a sketch in 2D and try to replicate in 3D I realize my idea wasn't correct, but looked correct because it contained cheating.
Your program also requires big amount of effort and time. But if it wouldn't, still bullshit what these guys commented, because if somebody want to tell a story in comic form, she/he has any rights to do it by using any related available program. Doesn't matter how easy it considered...
To make a sandwich from bread and jam is also easy, but I should eat it because of that...? wuuuut?
Sorry about the thread revival if it offends... can't imagine it would in this case.
I once received:
"This chapter sucks, so do you, and so does Philip."
My chapter had no Philip. I don't know any Philip. I was tempted to ask. I was also tempted to write a short story about that comment. I resisted both impulses.
Honestly, asking after that sort of stuff is one of my favorite games. Playing innocent/ignorant, especially in the face of someone that incoherently irate is a very special kind of joy. I'll be if you'd innocently ask "Wait, Phillip? Who's that?" or something, they'd start screaming about something. My money's on them either mis-remembering something or confusing yours with someone else's and still blaming you somehow.
Oh, yeah. Trolls want your reaction, so that's why always people say to ignore them. But they want your bad reaction, if you respond nicely, the troll gets trolled.
Only thing is you have to be sure you'll be able to handle the stress and keep the niceness till the end, because if at any moment you break and tell them off, they win.
It's oratory.
