My favorite art style is from a manga called Kingdom.

With its detailed war scale and an epic battle of giant generals and character designs, it is really epic for me.

I'll show you one of the panels between the two generals.

It's hard to choose one out of so many styles that appeal to my tastes, but the art style of Rojika to Rakkasei really speaks to me. With it's messy lines but detailed environments with tons of personality, and slightly cartoon-ish characters contrasting with the sporadic bouts of dark subtext, I take a lot of inspiration from this little-known manga in my own art.

Clean and pretty. Composition is also very attractive. @nachoooz on Twitter

Attention to detail, such as the shadow of the plants on her leg, the reflection of the water on her leg, and her dogs and Ferrari in the background (character detail) @Sco_ttie on Twitter

They made Zenitsu's cheese hair look good @MEPHIST0216 on twitter

Roughly painted (you can see it's unblended and the lines are not very sharp) but it looks finished @chyoellll

Bright, saturated, and poppy. @_akiakane

The multitude of reflective/refractive lights @rei_173

Very stylized. I can recognize @666pigeon2's art anytime.

Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue, come on it's pure art, full HD with the majestic use of ink.

Berserk by Kentarou Miura, the man is the avatar of Brahma, because I don't know how he is doing all this by hand. You should see his page spreads to believe in gods.

Recently in love with My Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kohei, because oh boy it's dynamic, clean and the man can draw emotions so well.

Sachin Teng1. Love his colours and how he's drawing with those colour bulbs and this coloured lines oh man.

Even Amundsen1, I cannot even comprehend how he's doing whatever he's doing, but it's awesome. Look at all the character of those characters, so many character!

Yana Toboso - she has been a huge inspiration for me for years, I love how polished her art looks! (look at her, being hired by Disney...)

Kamome Shirahama - I recently fell in love with her art in Witch Hat Atelier because it's very art nouveau-inspired. I especially like when she draws detailed compositions like this:

Akihiko Yoshida - I love how his art is detailed and dreamy, he does a lot of character designs for Square Enix!

J Carlos - one of the first Brazilian comic artists, he did amazing compositions too. Walt Disney wanted to hire him, but he didn't want to leave Rio (so Disney kinda... stole one of his designs to make Zé Carioca lol)

Ooh, let me post some inspirations!

Rod Wong, Ron Marz and Jared Pullen made some amazing art for the first two Legend of Spyro games. I love the crooked, yet cartoony and stylized style they used for those games, and it translated very well to the rather low budget(after too much was spent on VAs) graphics. It's kind of like Warcraft but not as exaggerated or colorful.

Nostalgia aside, Neopets' style just makes me really happy when it's done consistently. It started by being limited by flash, but as the technology improved, they got a good hold of the thick lineart style and REALLY got crazy with it on the final Viacom years. Shame it's all outsourced now, as much as the artists do their best to stick to the style it doesn't always work.

Jen Zee2's style is the BEST. It's a perfect blend of detailed areas and others with just the necessary, and on all of Supergiant's games it shines through. Thought about getting a Hades design as an example but Pyre is the one I have a soft spot for - but it's hard to get more utterly SICK than some of the god designs on the former.

Is hard to choose bc it depends on the story you are telling.

  • Ralf König1 's drawings are not beautiful but they are perfect for his acid sense of humor. I highly recommend him if you are looking for lgtbi stories, he is the german king of underground stories.

  • Ana Miralles is an spanish artist that lives in France (or used to) her drawings are full of detail, sensuality and beauty. And everything with watercolors! She barely uses the computer. Her most famouse work is probably Djinn with Jean Dufaux but she has published quite a lot.

  • Stan Sakai1 's work is also beautiful in his own way. Clean and neat, free of anything superfluous adn yet so full of emotions.

There are more but I think I'm going to stop here. Do I like the art for the shake's of art or do I like it bc each different style is a perfect match for the story they are telling? I guess we will never know.

@Seaby I really like this art style, dod you know the name of the artist?

@silacinnamon I really like J Carlos! There was also another brazilian artist that I liked a lot but I forgot his name

@Iris-Grimoire OMG!!! Neopets!! so much nostalgia :joy:

I like a lot of different styles but ones that include a lot of color variation hold my attention the longest.

5cm per second's movie studio does amazing stuff.

Bright stylized colors but still realism to a degree

Basically just art styles I haven't been able to do myself - colors that flow into a painterly fashion and yet remain soft while still retaining their colorful sense of 3d without falling into "omfg must do perspective to show emotion".

Katsuhiro Otomo will always be the best~! He gives his characters such life and emotion and his style is just so moody, stark, and dynamic~!

If we're talking about classic paintings, you can't go wrong with William Bouguereau. Holy smokes the details in his paintings are stunning.

I also absolutely love Kita Senri of Fire Emblem fame! There's such nice variety in her designs and her style is somehow realistic but also delightfully anime and stylistic at the same time. There's also something I really like about her lines and coloring style.

(But I digress).

Stan Sakai is one of my favorites!

I have waaay too many favorite artists, so here are a few that I'm loving at the moment.

Doug TenNapel, Earthworm Jim guy who also makes some wild comics. His style is really expressive and seems totally unique and confident, and I appreciate how crazy and off-the-wall it can be.

Lorena Alvarez Gomez is just... unbelievable. She's easily in my top 10 favorite artists. I love her whimsical, detailed, colorful, imaginative art SO much.

Guille Rancel's work is wild, whimsical, and adorable. I want to read stories about every one of his characters.

Loish, for reasons that should be obvious

Elentori because she's outrageous at expressing mood and emotion so perfectly with a style that isn't necessarily perfectly polished, but the sketchiness adds to the charm!

i like alot of styles... i guess thats why i slightly change my style every couple months on my insta. cant stand doing the same style over and over.

  • for painting or for hot dudes i say yy6241 on instagram i wont show their art cause its all nsfw but its soooo beautiful and i dig their painting approach

  • for linework and more hot dudes theres an artist on twitter called MACBETHOFF

  • for really wacky/unique artstyles that keep my style inspiration fresh, i like sugarandmemories , shes on twitter and instagram she does alot of fanart
and theirs an artist on instagram called flithyguts they make alot of halloween esque art but i love the colors they use

  • For eyegasms Kuvshinov Ilya is THE man to do it for you. hes my inspiration to keep my color in my art in check hes on facebook, instagram, deviantart

and with all those styles combined together this is one of the many styles i do

@Isabelline This artist is also one of my favourites!! (tho looking at the great art made by such young artists makes me kinda depressed about my age and lack of skill :expressionless:)

I have way too many favourite artists, and many I could consider inspirations  It's kinda hard for me to talk about why do I like particular art styles and works, hm... I need to work on that... Anyway, one of my long time faves, Klaufir. There is an unique atmosphere to their works, dark, solitary and surreal with a bit of cartoony/childlike touch that compliments it really well. The painting style so good, also those colors are pretty damn sick

They have a webcomic1 too, I love the melancholic subdued feeling and all the detail in every page

I love painterly works where artists play with color in limited palates and in surprising and unexpected ways, like Micheal Carlson

And this painting of a forest by KM Schmidt

They achieved so much in so few strokes, just masterworks.

And I love it when people apply those techniques to concept art--it's just amazing, like this peice by Sergey Kolosev

Or this one by Jinhoa Bae

I have like pinterest boards full of the stuff https://www.pinterest.com/RAJillustration/awesome-concept-art/

5 months later

Bringing this back because I really want to spread these lovely works of art around:

If you haven't read this manga yet (or don't read manga in general) I propose you guys check out Tongari Boushi no Atelier, or Witch Hat Atelier, because the art is consistently beautiful and well rendered. Author/Artist Shirahama Kamome is exceptionally skilled at what she does and has managed to create an immersive story with realized characters that should be too good to be true, but thankfully isn't. Examples of her art:

^Seriously, It's so detailed, every panel catches your eye. Please try and check out this manga.

Another artist whose art I greatly appreciate is Alphonse Mucha. His art is colored with flat, warm colors, and he manages to turn each woman into some sort of nature goddess. I especially love his backgrounds and how he incorporates plant life, not to mention the gorgeous folds and detail to the clothing.

Is it ok to post things outside the webcomic and comic realm right?
Anyway, an artist that has been an inspiration for a long time for me is Leyendecker. The way he makes his characters look "poppy" and cartoonish is something im amazed with.

I've got a few I'll share.

First up, Dave Quiggle. I love album art, and I think he's one of the coolest out there. His style is pretty neat.

Next will be Wayne Reynolds. I first discovered his art through the game Magic the Gathering. I love how he does his proportions and poses.

Next is Raymond Swanland. Discovered him through MtG also. Love his colors and darker pallettes.

And finally, Bill Watterson. I love his cartoony proportions, but also his sense of motion and energy flowing throughout the characters movements. He's one of my biggest inspirations to be a comic artist. (Plus his dinosaurs kick ass xD)

First of all, I am a huge fan of my friend's (https://twitter.com/HOAIMI_jpeg/media | https://www.deviantart.com/hoaimi/gallery) art.

She just has this super cool colourful, geometric approach mixed with anime, it's always a treat to look at. \ o /

Secondarily I can't get enough of fantasy concept art that re-envisions historical architecture in different settings. Especially if it's geared towards RPG worlds lol. I'm currently trying to do exercises to learn how to design like this.

Oh man I love art styles that have really prominent line art and geometric shapes.
Comic artists I like:

Steffen Kverneland (artist of MUNCH):

David Lafuente:

Eduard Petrovich:

Rob Guillory:

And I really like this one Austrian painter guy, Egon Schiele:

I just like how satisfying the exaggerations make his figure drawings... So rhythmic :relieved:

Oh man, 80's tech is my jam! Especially the hold Transformers movie! I got a whole collection of backgrounds from it that I love.

Look at all the needless detail and complexity! Everything has to have lines, and divots, and screens and tubes and everything! It's still all one solid color though, and a consistent pallet! There's bits sticking out everywhere, it's just so satisfying to let your eyes just follow the lines.

Especially when they add little glowing parts to it. Just like old 90's anime, it has that phosphorescent glow to it that I just don't see these days? It looks so fuzzy and bright... It's just so satisfying that these backgrounds are so complex? They invoke such a time capsule of style to them that I'd one day love to try and capture.

I could go on and on and on about this. There are some other works that do this, things like Gundam and such, but it's just... I get this so consistently from old Transformers works that I attribute it almost entirely to them. I love this background work so much, probably one of my fav art styles for sure. Don't think it has a name, but I'll amass reference images nonetheless.

I've always loved Impressionist paintings, the colors and the light kill me!!

This is Church at Old Lyme by Childe Hassam

My art history professor introduced me to the idea of home decorations as actual art, which...I'd never thought of before. Louis Comfort Tiffany blew my mind. And this is literally a lamp. A lamp. It's so beautiful!

And then I have to include some textile art too! This is Vera Shimunai's work, and I ADORE it...it's literally like Bob Ross (who I also love!), but with embroidery.
