For me, it's hella creepy. I think it's supposed to be a take on "Love from Afar" -- where one person notices Person B through passing. Like, this is someone you are familiar with (a classmate, a neighbor, a customer). And Person A slowly grows fonder of them (maybe based on actual interactions that go into more depth). They're not necessarily close, but there's a connection that's can potentially go from acquaintances to friends, and from friends to lovers.
But "Stalker turned Lover" is creepy. Like...Person A isn't considering the feelings of Person B, and they only know the things they like and feel because they followed them around without their consent. For me, it also makes light of actual dangerous stalker situations people had to endure and go through, especially when the Stalker threatened their existing relationships or tried to kidnap them in an attempt to live out their fantasies.
Not a fan of it, but I guess if the stalker is "attractive", some people eat it up. Cuz lemme tell you -- if the stalker is "ugly", those same people are quick to call it out.
