Something needs to be brought up and Tapas/@STAFF, this is something that needs to be done because I'll be honest, when I first heard about this, it really irked me. I for one cant' stand this site, it's always been a shady place for me and anyone can get on my case if they want, I stopped using this place a while ago. If this issue didn't feel like it was affecting many people without their knowledge, I wouldn't have batted an eye.
However, even though this hardly affects me at the moment, I couldn't rightfully leave this issue unattended, knowing hundreds of users may not realize it.
I recently found out that Tapas has set up a $25 limit on Tipping, meaning creators can't get their tips. This is the same rule used for "Ad Revenue" causing the same problems of limiting not only the the creator's ability to earn cash but Tapas as well. However this is even worse because unlike that system, Tipping was designed as a way for "READERS" to directly support the creators they like.
Without mentioning names, I found out a creator I support wanted to take out their money, having around 10 or so dollars. They were refused because of this system, even though many other tippers had easily supported them directly with nearly 20,000 coins. Something that would only have been possible through spending actual money to get coins. You aren't getting that through checking advertisements. People like them have clearly shown great support and because of this rule, not only are the creator's screwed but those tipping are wasting their money.
How would you like to send $20 for coins, hoping to support a creator only to find out that money isn't actually being given to the creator? I don't know about you but it would irk the living hell out of me. Tipping was "supposed" to be a new, fresh and easier alternative to the original outdated Ad Revenue System. It was "supposed" to be a way for creators to directly support their favorite creators, even if it was just bit by bit.
I know darn well nobody here tipped, especially those who really supported by buying coins, just so Tapas could keep the money. For me, this is no different than tipping someone at a restaurant. You give that money as support, a quick bonus as a way of thanking them for a good job. That money belongs to them, not to the management.
People, I implore you to stop tipping right now, especially if you might be supporting a series that, probably won't reach that $25 limit. Instead, see if the creator has a Patreon, Ko-Fi or just plain PayPal. That way when you send your money, you know it's actually getting to the creator.
This to me is a sneaky, underhanded thing, hidden away and easy to miss. Had Tipping only been about watching advertisements to get coins, this might not have bothered me as much. I would've thought it stupid but at least people weren't giving money. Here though, many people do spend money for coins, sometimes a lot and it is completely unfair to both sides "Creators/Readers" that their money goes to waste like this.
