Sub for Sub, how do you feel about it?

If I like them, I will SB, if I don’t, I wouldn’t. I really don’t feel like agonizing over that choice. I assume that peeps who sub to my story like it and will unsub when they don’t. The whole, ‘but do they truly love it?’ angst is too much angst for me. I’d rather worry about writing more books.

If I like someone’s story then I’ll sub without the expectation that they’ll sub back. And I definitely don’t want someone to sub to mine hoping I’ll sub back.

It’s crazy how some people have a high amount of subs with really low views and likes. I want people actually reading and engaging with me and my story, even if they don’t get to it immediately

I don't like it. Follow for follow was huge on Wattpad, but all it left you with was a bunch of followers who would never actually read your work or interact with you in any way. I have over 7k followers there and I don't ever hear from even a third of them. Now I'm still new to Tapas so I don't know if it's generally the same here, but having a high follow count doesn't mean you're popular or will get reads. I'd much rather have people who are going to read the work, sub to that work. On Wattpad I only followed friends because you could follow the person, not the work. Here I'm only going to sub if I intend to read something.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter how I feel about it. What matters is whether or not it works. No, it does not accomplish anything significant that I have seen.

Sub for sub seems to be a practice which is just perpetuated by a continuous stream of new users. They visit this forum for the first time, they copy the threads that they see, then maybe they grow frustrated or depressed when thia specific form of self promotion does not create the snowball effect they wanted, and lastly they quit creating or exit Tapas and leave behind a forum post which entraps the next user. If this forum had more active admins, the process might have been stomped out by now.

Now maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you only care about the stat instead of an actual readership. Maybe your goal is humble enough that a small community of your fellow creators and no non-creator readers will satisfy you. Maybe you love to self-promote here exclusively, and I'm full it. M'okay, there are dedicated and pinned official threads for self-promotion-- and none of them are share for share threads.

i dont like it, feels cheap plus the subs are basically the equivalent of sub bots since they dont read the comic in majority of cases

Not a fan. I will sub to a series if i really like it. I work hard on my comic and I want my subs to be people who actually enjoy it and are willing to take time out of their day to read my stuff.

Also not a big fan of it, however, in certain instances when a website favors people with many subscribers, I can understand when people try to do sub for sub.

Never been a fan, of this or any "follow for follow" gimmick. I really don't want empty subs that aren't actually interested in my content. In fact one of my biggest pet peeves on like, Twitter, is people following and expecting a follow back, then unfollowing when they don't get one.

I feel like there are better alternatives to sub4sub, because your subscribers probably won't care about your comic and won't read it. I like read4read better because that way people can decide whether they like your comic or not. Or review4review.

I don't like it after I learned what it means (empty subscribers). I find it especially rude when I receive PMs begging for a sub 4 sub. I do enjoy reading quite a bit, but you earn a sub from me lol.

I don't sub 4 sub but I will look at promo threads to find new things to read. I'm a reader as well as a writer and I've found incredible comics and novels this way.

When I first joined the forums, I did feel the unneeded pressure to sub back. But when I later found out those messages on my wall weren't hidden I got quite angry, because they were plain advertising on my wall. And they almost never liked any episode barring a few individuals, so it was safe to say they didn't care for my comic.

I promptly unsubbed and put a note on my wall saying I don't do sub4sub. Furthermore, I delete all attempts to it, even if they are sneaky pm's.

It's one thing to support each other by subscribing and reading each other's work, but just subscribing and ditching, as well as insisting to subscribe, when the other person is not obligated in any way.
