Hello all!

I had a rather heartbreaking experience today, and I really wanted to pass along some major love and encouragement to you all because of it.

While on my lunch break I noticed a person trying very hard to not make it obvious that they were crying. I waited a few minutes, wondering what the right course of action would be, and decided to at least make sure the person was ok. She was fine mostly; she was just incredibly sad that it would be the first Christmas that she was away from home and she felt so alone. (For those who don't know, I'm military, so this is not an uncommon occurrence). She said the winter weather just seemed to bring her down and everything seemed so much harder than usual. She was at a loss as to what to do; she didn't want to be a bother a bring it up at work, and she didn't want to worry her friends and family.

I want to say to all of you who struggle during the holidays; you are deserving of so much, friends, family (whatever that means for you), and love. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You are the only you that's ever going to exisit in this world, and that deserves to be cherished and celebrated. Please, don't hold in your pains and worries. I know everyone's situations are different and not everyone has the same resources available to them but if you need some encouragement or just someone to vent to, know I will be more than happy to an ear and shoulder because no one should have to feel the way that woman felt today and everyone needs support sometimes. I'm not a professional counselor or anything like that, but I can be someone to talk to.

That, of course, means no pressure to anyone. But know it's here, because one person feels the way that woman did today then someone else does too.

Luckily I'm doing well this holiday, but I still wanted to thank you for this encouraging message! I hope everyone is able to draw comfort from your post.

This is so nice of you.

Everyone deserves some happiness in their lives.

Thanks for being so kind and sweet in general!

And hope you have an amazing day and life! :grinning:

PS: You are military? what a plot twist!

Thanks @spicy_sweets and @Kann

@DiegoPalacios yeah, I forget that most don't know. Some people are positive or negative about it and others just ask me a million questions I don't have answers to so sometimes I'm careful about it. Plus I dunno that it ever really came up?

It didn`t came up. I guess is not something common to say in casual conversations

True, is important to be careful about that.

My grandpa was in the marine. I don`t know too much about him because he died before i was born, but my dad admired him a lot.

My opinion is this: "With great power comes great responsibility", so if someone in the military is responsible with the power granted, they have my respect.

And don`t worry, i will not pester with awkward questions

Thank you, as always, for your kindness! I hope you'll have a good holidays too, with all your encouraging posts I sometimes wonder if you take care of yourself as much as you take care of us! So, just in case you need someone to remind you, be happy, be kind, and have a good time

Man. There was this poor guy at the place I used to work at who worked three jobs to keep his big family afloat and went to school at the same time. The people we worked with at that job were lazy and rude and complained when they were asked to do their job. Some harpy who worked with us literally cursed him out when he asked her to please go service the customers while we prepped food in the back and he burst into tears and just told me all his troubles. I told him that he needed to quit one of his jobs so he could live a happier life before I myself left the job because it was such a hostile work environment.

I hope wherever that poor guy is, he took my advice and decided to quit one of his jobs and surround himself with decent people instead of inconsiderate leeches. That guy's fate honestly haunts me to this day XD

But anyway, thank you for this encouraging message, Penni. The holidays can be really rough for some people, and it's always nice to see some human compassion and decency from people.

I'm sure your presence really helped her!!

This is also my first Christmas away from home (thankfully under comparatively less stressful conditions!) but it does have me feeling very homesick. Being in an entirely different country from all my family and friends is very strange and can feel isolating.

I'm currently browsing the Tapas forums and listening to Christmas music from my childhood for comfort - and seeing your post was very comforting!

I hope you have very happy holidays <3

@minerrale no worries, I make sure to take care of myself too

@ratscout that sounds awful! I hope he decided to quit too!

@Birdwrong I've been out of the country and away from my family for several months so I totally understand this. It can be very jarring to be in an unfamiliar place and lonely even with the conveniences of modern technology. Glad you're keeping your head up!
