So far the system is awesome! Hopefully, like the Tapas Team has already mentioned, down the line more features will be added. I for one wish it was more convenient for the Novel Platform to recognize already stylized text, meaning: I post my novel on Wattpad already and wish to bring it here also, but every time I paste my chapters in the Tapas Novel Platform, I manually have to go back in and re-bold or re-italicize areas that were like that before.

My life would be easier if I could just copy and paste documents into the Novel Platform without needing to re-italicize or re-bold words from my book. And has anyone noticed the Platform also lacks an option to move text to the middle of the page?

Oh sweet! I tried applying one of my novels for Tapas Premium a few months back, but was rejected sadly. Oh well, at least now I can post the story anyway ^^;

I'm really eager for images to become an option for the novels. I created a map of the world in my fantasy series, and I would love to post that in one of the chapters! :smile:

@gabbyluu
I need clarification. On the OP it sounds like we can post our stories/webnovel here and earn an income through ads revenue and tipping.
But in here1, it says "We do not offer self-publishing for books or written stories yet, but are planning on adding those features in the near future. Stay tuned for more announcements!"
Sounds like we can't earn from ads revenue through our stories/webnovel that we post here? Which one is it, miss? Could you clarify on this? Thanks for reading.

^^^ They're talking about physical self-publishing. Like printing actual books.

You can earn ad revenue and tips as a regular writer/artist here, but if you're looking to get your work physically published and sold through a distributor, you'll have to look somewhere else.

Either that, or it's a typo they forgot to remove from pre-novel app Tapas. Either way, yes, you can receive tips and ad revenues from your books here, just so long as you've opted into the Ad Rev program and you've applied and been entered into the tips program.

Hi Zack,

Sorry for the confusion! We did an overhaul of the help section a while back, before we had the free platform for books. You can earn from ad revenue and tipping (if you're 18 years or older) with written stories, and we'll need to update those sections accordingly.

For the record, @UzukiCheverie is also right that we don't do physical books haha

An editor that recognizes bold/italics (or at least can use html) is my primary concern right now, too. Some kind of horizontal bar for scene breaks would be really nice as well.

I'm really glad that this is a feature (I've been pining for something like this in Tapas for a while now), but I'm having a problem with the formatting. I wasn't sure if I should post it here or in technical support.

When I do inline italicising, there's a line break above and below the italicised font. So instead of:

The text looking just like this.

I get:

The text looks
exactly
like this.

And there's no way to fix it. If I try to delete the space to bring the formatted text back into the sentence normally, it just deletes the characters in front of or after it, but the formatted text itself never moves.

Absolutely, better recognition while copy/pasting from other word processors is definitely on the list. Believe me, I am keeping a running list of features for the novel side with everyone's suggestions, though Tapas devs unfortunately have a lot on their plates at this time.

Hmm I'm not sure what would be causing this. Could you send screenshots and explain what you have here to tech support?

Will images be an added feature to novels in the future? It's definitely a feature I'd like to have.

It's certainly on the list. Unfortunately, there are quite a bit of items ahead that are a higher priority for the site and app. For now, please bear with us! We will let everyone know once this feature is available.

To be honest, I really don't like that after a certain number of chapters on desktop, the story is 'locked' unless you read it on the app. I'm a person who primarily reads on desktop and it just puts me off reading on here. It's a personal preference thing, of course, but I don't see the same thing being done to comics.

It will only show locked if you're reading a story you need to pay for later. Not all "novel" chapters are locked after a certain time.

I'm sure the Tapas team is working on a way for readers to pay for chapters on a desktop. For now, if you want to keep reading a story on your desktop, look for stories that aren't "Premium."

@Akaluv89 is correct. The locked Premium novels (and comics) have been around for a little over a year, but this Novel Platform announcement was for open publishing of free novels through our online editor.

The community is doing a fantastic job growing out the free novel database, so there is plenty to read there :slight_smile: A good place to start is also the "New & Noteworthy Novels" collection on the front page, which is made up of free, unlocked books.

We are very close to having coins and unlocking on the web, so stay tuned!
