Ahhh ok. There should only be one notification. In the case you mention, "New" will appear the first time you publish your episode, since it's new then. If you decided to lock it afterwards and unlock it again, it's technically not new. So in this case, it's best to lock your comic initially.

That's exactly how the new system works. smile

For now, updated episodes (i.e. new images, pages, etc.) will still allow the creator to send out an optional Activity Notification. In the future, we may consider marking the series on the Reading List with and "updated" / "up" tag (vs. "new" / "n") instead.

Marking edited/updated episodes as "new" didn't seem to make sense in some cases, which is why we held off on including that bit for now... at least until they can be better distinguished from one another.

There is also one small bug we're aware of and working to fix:

When you click on a series with "new" episodes on your Reading List, it may take you to the episode before the new one(s), instead of the actual new episode... forcing you to scroll down or click the new episode on the list to get to it.

But hey, at least now you can see which episodes you have and have not read yet, and the "new" ones are clearly labeled! Haha... ha... Hopefully just a minor inconvenience for the time being, but we'll get it sorted soon smile

the see all notifications page

i can just click on the line now yaas

also when will notifications automatically slide away?

The "See All" page has actually been around for a while. Glad you found it though. : )

Also, not sure what you mean by notifications sliding away? Can you elaborate on this more? Thanks!

Yay, thanks a lot for these updates!!! ❤️

I was really worried that the non-supporter subscribers would get a notification on a locked episode, I'm glad that it's not like that.
... But there is still something bothering me - when I upload a locked episode, will the comic appear in the FRESH comics category (for non-subscribers) right away or only after it was unlocked?
And what about sharing - if a supporter shares the episode, people who click on it will have the episode locked and won't see anything - or do supporters not have the options to share a locked episode?
I mean, I would be sad if I clicked on a shared preview, in the daily feed or facebook for example, and the episode was locked.

And thanks so much for featuring my puffer fish! I was totally taken aback when I saw it smiley You know, it's one of my most favorite images ever!

The idea behind the Fresh section is to help your series get discovered. Even though your last episode is locked, readers can check out some of your other episodes as well.

This is a valid concern. But if someone is willing to support you and share your locked episode, that's indicative that others (in their circle of friends) might be willing to check out your content. Sure, they might not be able to read that locked episode, but maybe they'd be curious to check out other episodes in your series. With that being said, we'll keep this in mind. We want readers on Tapastic to discover all content seamlessly.

Our system will ensure locked content doesn't show up in the daily feed. So no need to worry about that. : )

Haha no problem. Love your series. Keep up the awesome work. Also, my girlfriend is deathly afraid of pufferfish. Sending her this image right now. lol.

@brianorlando I think this is glitching; I just unlocked an episode, and it seems nobody got notified. D:

I had it set to unlock at a certain time, but ignored it and manually unlocked it ahead of time. Would that have anything to do with it?

Going to delete and reupload both my latest unlocked episode and latest locked episode in a minute...

Being more selective and only showing updates to people who can see them sounds good. However, I don't understand why you are giving up on numbers (the number of unread episodes). Compared to the simple "new", they convey extra information that is useful. If someone has only one unread page, they may decide to wait a bit until there are at least 5 unread pages.

Hmmm...Thanks for the heads up. Was this an older episode that you decided to unlock (published before this update), or a brand new one? The notification should trigger the first time you unlock your comic as long as it was originally published as locked (whether it's scheduled or manually unlocked).

Oooh... Yeah, I think it was from just before the update. Hopefully it'll work smoothly from now on!

Ok. Please let me know if you're having an problems with newer episodes when they unlock. : )

Thanks for the explanation!

I have been wondering how the Daily Feed works - I thought it was a selection of new episodes picked by the staff, like a daily deviation on Deviantart, because they seemed to be added in bulks but then I noticed that the order of the episodes changes (or maybe it was just my imaginaton....) How does it really work?

Haha, thanks, I'm honored! smile I hope she comes to like them when she sees how cute they are blush

Currently, it's algorithmically generated based on how much engagement your comic episode is getting in a certain amount of time (likes, comments, views, etc.). Hope that clarifies things. We'll be making a few adjustments in the future incorporate staff picked content as well : )
