You ever have writing niches that really appeal to you, despite the fact that you absolutely suck at writing them?
I really like gritty, down-to-earth stories with lots of pathos. Like stories of poor kids growing up on the streets and just doing kid things with a few philosophical moments sprinkled in, and one of them is nicknamed something super cool and symbolic like Coelacanth or something... I used to eat that stuff up when I was younger (when I actually read things). ^^;
I'm not good at writing it, though...it's the same problem I have with all "normal human slice-of-life": the motivation just fizzles out when I don't have any fantastical events to look forward to.
As much as I can enjoy the emotional gut-punch delivered by more realistic dramatic turns, like a breakup, or someone getting injured or moving away, somehow I can't maintain interest when writing it.
I'm still gonna try, though. If not with normal human slice-of-life, then with weird fantasy humans at least. It's as close as I can get...
