Hey all, I had an idea to form a group of writers and artists who's primary content involves a lot of worldbuilding, such as science fiction and fantasy stories where one crafts either new worlds or a reimagining of our own world. We could all help promote each other and start a YouTube channel where we each create videos of us explaining our stories and the worlds we dreamt up for our characters to inhabit. We can also post sneak peeks at upcoming works as well.

This sounds like a really interesting idea. I have built a world of my own, for my comic "United We Stand". I'll gladly help out fellow creators any way I can .

That could be fun  I've done loads of worldbuilding for my fantasy novel and that's usually one of my favourite parts about writing.

:crashes thru the door:

DID SOMEONE SAY WORLDBUILDING?? oh man i love this idea so much!! would it be possible to start a discord server or something before making a youtube channel? that way we can chat with each other but oops i'm getting ahead of myself

I've been creating worlds for over 20 years, since my teenage days. From D&D campaigns to altered versions of existing continuities to entirely original locations, governments, and organizations. I enjoy talking with like-minded people :D.

20 years? That's amazing! :hype_01: I've only started world building when I started writing fantasy novel, but I can't never perfect even one world, let alone several worlds! That's really cool!

Maybe a more experienced writer has some input for me, it´s my first bigger
story.
I´m writing a funny/romance fantasy story.
There are 7 kingdoms all connected to a prince living there.
I have some kingdoms already like the magic kingdom, barbarian kingdom
and so on. If anyone has a good idea for a kingdom please let me know

One thing to pay close attention to there is what makes the kingdoms unique besides just the type. What are the different cultures and religions? What are their holidays and celebrations and customs? What types of food do they enjoy at feasts? What guiding principles do the people of each kingdom follow?

For example, in the magic kingdom, there could be a large focus on education, with a lot of pressure on young men and women to attend prestigious academies. A down side to that could be social consequences if a person is unable to get into one of these schools. On the other hand, the barbarian kingdom could put more value in strength and courage and physical discipline, and they could scorn those who spend too much time with their noses shoved in a book. An inspiration for the difference between these two could be Athens and Sparta in Ancient Greece.

Question is. Is this for promoting or is this for help and share experience?

I would like to join a discord. Where all creators can have a channel to discuss their worlds and help out.
And if you want video on you can live chat too.

Edit: It does sound like a big job to get into x worlds. I might not have the time due to my big worldbuilding.
We could just stay here and help out with specific questions and tips

Thanks for the input. That´s something I have been thinking about and that´s also part of the story. The main character is a princess, her father wants her to marry one of the princes from the other kingdoms

If you want a little drama and a love triangle, you could have more than one prince interested in her, lol.

Cool. But I’m not sure how much I can help with.
If we are 100 people with large words. That could take some time to get through

I'm assuming each kingdom has their own specialty, so, what about specifying the magic? For example, one kingdom uses dark/offensive magic, while another kingdom uses white/healing magic. Or, maybe, is there any specific species in some kingdoms? Like, maybe, fae kingdom?

thanks for the input, that also sounds great

I'm all in for that! Sounds awesome!
Although making a video showcase of your world sounds like a sh*load of work, to be honest.

Whit the change of no one watching it.

Let's stick with the discord and see where it will take us

I'm actually very interested in that, let me know if you have more space open.

The video showcase wouldn't be that hard. It would just be us talking about our work with various images and screenshots. In my case, I will also do audio book versions of mine. If anyone needs help, you can just send me clips of you talking about your work and I can edit the videos. To give you an example of previous work, here is a video I made for my Mallory Dane story using the Sims 4. Keep in mind, this video is from last year and the story changed a lot from that to what I am currently writing here on Tapas.
