So I'm thinking of cutting the prologue from my story. My original idea was that it would add an element of mystery to my story early on and maybe add some tension.

However it's got a lot of out of context dialog that's organic to the characters in story but I wonder if it does a disservice to the first chapter that centers around the MC a much more normal dude and what he's doing and how the main conflict starts.

The prologue highlights a character that is mentioned in some of the other early chapters but won't be formally introduced until later on.

Also I do acknowledge that my story has a tendency to jump around and has a lot of named characters so in an effort to reduce that I was wondering if I should cut it and maybe relocate it closer to her formal introduction.

Here's my comic what do y'all think?

I think your prologue works well as a hook to make people interested in the story. It makes me curious to learn about the world building and the characters. Your first chapter is much slower paced so it doesn't have as much of a hook for people to get excited about. I don't mind that there are characters in the prologue that we don't get to know right away, as long as they show up eventually!

Readers will remember the prologue as they read on so when you finally introduce characters and lore hinted at in the prologue they get to feel smart for remembering and connecting the dots between that short intro and the story at large. As long as you can reward your readers by tying the prologue together with the main story at later times I think you're good!

These are my thoughts reading just the prologue and first chapter. Maybe someone that know your story better has another opinion but this is just what I think!
