i was wondering what folks' thoughts were on series that are galleries? like people just posting their art instead of actual comics. i personally feel like those should be limited to gallery/portfolio sites like tumblr or DA and not a site meant for stories and comics. but what do you guys think?

I personally dont mind, i actually like when they are side gallery/sketches for the authors actual comic series, i follow some of those and i personally have one for my comic and its a nice way of connecting with your readers.

Since they don't get much traction and it's not like they're pushing out proper comics or such, I don't mind them much. (Or, more like we probably can't get rid of them if we tried ewe)

They do feel out of place, and I'd rather the amount be kept low. It's just a lot easier to get an audience on Tapas vs DA or tumblr.

I am biased though, since I intend on starting a series that's meant for concept art for some upcoming comics. But I guess that's not the same as what you're addressing, since they are comic related? :'D

I personally don't like them. I'm just wondering why would you want to post anything other than comics on a comics site as opposed to DA, Tumblr, Twitter, or what have you. I don't follow any gallery series because I use Tapastic for comics, and I don't like my comics feed getting cluttered up with just doodles.

I don't mind them. I'm actually planning on making one soon myself as a place to post gag strips and illustrations that I don't want cluttering my two main series. It'd all be stuff related to them, though, so it's not like it's too off the mark.

I do think places like tumblr and twitter are more viable for that kind of thing if that is all they're posting is gallery stuff and they ARE interested in creating an actual following, but I personally feel they're allowed use tapastic however they want. It could easily be this is just where they hang out the most and it makes most sense to post their art here so their friends can see it, and I don't see anything wrong with that. There doesn't seem to be a rule against it and it's not like anyone has to follow or waste any time looking at them if they don't like it.

literally no one is telling you to leave? we're just voicing our thoughts on the subject.

Don't leave just because some people don't like gallery stuff. There are people (like myself) who think it's fine. But it's also perfectly okay for others to not like it. I don't think anyone even implied that they didn't think the artists who do this were advanced enough either (everyone doodles, even "advanced" artists, but that doesn't mean everyone's going to want to see them. But just because some people don't, doesn't mean there aren't others that will.) No one was pointing fingers at anyone.

Oh, no please don't! I wasn't trying to tell anyone they should remove their gallery comics, I'm sorry if it came off that way.

Hello,

Thanks for bringing this up.

We're actually still in the process of figuring out what to do with these series. We do think that it's fine for creators to have these types of series but they should be sorted in a different manner or possibly not visible unless you're already subscribed to another one of their series.

Tapastic is an webcomic platform, and we want to specifically showcase webcomics. Having these types of sketch/doodle series may lead to possible brand confusion for new readers and creators.

We haven't made any decisions regarding how to handle this situation but are open to suggestions.

Thanks.

i think that categorizing them would be a great idea! thanks for taking it into consideration.

I don't like them, I come here to read comics not look through a gallery.

I wish there was another option on the site for art galleries like this though, or even character profiles. Cause I enjoy them when they're in their own sections and not cluttering up the comics.

Why not make a gallery section and maybe two others like a comic section and a short section for the one page comics? Then everyone could have their own preferences.
