Traditionnaly painted comics

Heya everybody!

Like yall in this forum, I love comics, all of them: digital ones, traditionnal ones, those adapted to tablets and phones and those which are not.

But, as a traditional artist using paint to create my comic, I find it difficult to come accross other all-traditionally colored stories and universes. On a few forum threads, like this one or this one, many people explain they do use traditional media, but mainly as a first step and/or to ink their pages.

What about full-color painted pages? If you know some comics that are traditionnaly drawn and painted, or if you draw and paint one yourself, please feel free to present it there and to explain your technique!

Since the dawn of time a tower has stood in the centre of what is now called London. In this tower an angel and demon make a wager. This wager changes everything for a ghost named Alice. The demon, Cyan, asks Alice to be her messenger. Alice agrees on the condition Cyan grants her wish. Alice must discover the secrets behind this message before it is too late.

The technique is amazing, with most mesmerizing textures and collages. I suspect there's a little bit of mixed media in there, and I would be super interested to know how the author has put their pages together!

Matsuyama the author of Okamirai uses traditional pen and ink, when I saw his interview with another artist on youtube he had tons of Copic markers near his desk. When InkBlazers was still around he pretty much made a living off of his art. The only thing he does digitally is when adding the dialogue.

This would be more of an honorable mention since not everything in her art is traditional but still worth taking a look.
Ogawa Burukku moved to Japan back in 2004 to study Japanese comics (manga) and worked as an assistant for other manga artists. Her comic is called FaLLEN and its mostly done traditional with pen ink and screen tones, the only thing she does digital that I
Know of is the coloring and the dialogue. Her comic was also premium on InkBlazers.

Yeah I was going to also mention fox and willow ^w^.

I'm one of those people who draw traditionally and ink traditionally and shade traditionally but also utilize photoshop for post editing, textures and extra shading, primarily just because I don't have a Wacom tablet. It's the cheapest option I have. Painting IMO would cost me too much money with watercolor paper, paints, and etc.

It's also not the cleanest medium for someone who's clustered into a tiny dorm room. I also draw a lot of my pages on the go and inbtw classes cuz I don't have a life, so it's not like I could whip out the ol paint tray and paint out a page on the bus. ;p

I really envy traditional style comics. I'm pretty scared of mistakes so I feel like these comics really know their stuff. As someone who works with watercolour and inks, @___@ It is painful to make an error on a medium that just doesnt have ctrl z. @Sneaksy Just saw Arbor, I have an inkling it might be digital. But either way its absolutely beautiful story and style wise. Highly recommend giving it a look. Would look gorgeous in print imo.

I do use my avatar in quite a few places, but I don't believe I've used in other arty platforms. Do you know where you might know me from? Ahh, thank you. Arbor is traditional. I follow Miyuli on some of her other accounts and she posted photos of newly-finished Arbor pages next to the paint she was using.

Hm? Oh, nowhere. Just from here. I follow The Other. I just love your avatar and want to see more. I understand, though. I am also working on my art to start a comic--but I am very self conscious about it. I don't know, I am pretty sure Arbor is traditional--because I believe I can see the textured paper? Miyuli does such beautiful work. : )

As for the second link, the art is stunning but doesn't really convey the "traditional vibe", I think ? A lot of comics are inked manually in a very neat and clean way, so that ppl can't really see the difference between traditional and digital work.
If I must advise a very beautiful traditionnaly-inked webcomic where you can feel the brushwork and the indian ink, it is the Wonderers.

Thanks for link that one--I really like the textures! Another person who makes traditional comics is this gentleman, MasterLoki on smackjeeves. I believe he uses markers. Totally spaced it until today. : P

SNEEK PEEK my chapter 3 cover - ink and wcolour pencils and some watercolour paints.
Dabble in digital sometimes and for sure use it for clean up but i'm a trad baby. wish i didn't hate scanning things.

Well, my comic is all traditional and coloured, but it's certainly not painted soooooo... There's a couple that I know of, but they're not on this site.

Prague Race, although this one isn't full colour.

D00R/Toilet Genie, and this one is half watercolour and half digital.

I'm planning on traditionally coloring mine. So far I have little experience in digital art beyond corrections and lettering. Though I'm not opposed to digital art in anyway, and would really like to get a better grasp at it. I also wouldn't mind doing a fully painted comic at some point, similar to Alex Ross or Dan Brereton.
