Fire Force
fr the best anime I've watched in a long time

Uchuu No Stellvia (Stellvia of the Universe) - Great series that's like a shoujo "girl goes to a new school" story except the school is in space and they're all trying to stop a space disaster .They have spaceships without windows (YES) you need to be good at coding to pilot and they play sports with them and there are mecha and aliens and aaaaaaa I love it!

Strange Dawn - Underrated Isekai that was dubbed in Australia. Lush backgrounds and atmosphere, and a hell of an opening themesong.

Macross: Do You Remember Love?

Best anime movie I've ever seen. It would've killed too in the west had Japan not slipped up and given the rights to a greedy company.

Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is another good one.
I don't like anime humor, but the author is great at writing cringe humor. Also I love how they treat anime tropes. Like they treat the pervert like a straight up criminal. There's even jokes that he's wanted by police. It's a blink if you miss it joke, but the FACT THAT THEY PLAY IT STRAIGHT. The whole show is literally "what if these tropes existed". Huge inspiration for my comic.

Another one is Assassination Classroom. The premise in general is like perfect. I love how they treat Koro-Sensei as a gag character but later on you discover that his biology has rules.

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms

and

The Garden of Words

Even recommending it to people doesn't work :sob: I just want people to experience these masterpieces!

Some old classic Animes with badass ladies:

Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster

Bubblegum Crisis

Gunsmith Cats

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken

It's from a 90's shounen manga series. I read a few manga volumes when i was young I liked it a lot. The magic didn't fade when they remake the anime adaptation. Even though the is a bit old-school and cliche & the premise seems very typical JRPG but the way author write about the plots is organic, characters are memorable & character arcs are fully realized & well done, even villains. (we can see their motives, the character dynamics among themselves)

Plus the anime studio put their best on the series like they love it. Many times I was impressed how well the studio balance the highs and lows on every episodes. They handle sad scenes really well (I shed tears a few times) This anime knows how to gives you feels. Popp is my favorite character, he's the MVP.

If you're into retro shounen anime like DBZ, give this one a look. In my opinion it's better than Dragon Ball (in writing department)

woah, I grew up reading this since it was big in Asia in the 90s, but I've never heard anyone mentioned it since.
I tried rereading it recently, and I couldn't get back to it personally :frowning: maybe cuz it's too old school.

  • What's Michael?
  • Tama and Friends (the original one, not the human one)
  • Patalliro
  • Nabari no Ou
  • Cromartie HIgh School
  • Ping Pong
  • Piano no Mori (movie)
  • Takarajima

GeGeGe No Kitaro.

Very wholesome and sometimes deep. Plenty of action scenes. Some beautiful episodes, especially in the early seasons, that had patriotic, nationalist themes.

In the end, you could see outside influences were directing the narrative and one episode even attacked Japanese society.

But overall, a great show, and no one I know has even heard of it.

Saint Seiya! It's an oldie but a goodie that's kinda had a bit of buzz around it lately. Mostly thanks to the terrible Netflix show and the live-action movie in the making(that I hope won't be terrible, but I'm preparing for the worst.

This series is so good though, even though it's a pretty straightforward shounen. It's heavily influenced the genre with the creators of both Bleach and Naruto crediting it as a source of inspiration. Also it combines gratuitous violence, drama, and Greek mythology in a cool way. Added points for having an amazing soundtrack and especially the opening. I'm just sad they never finished the Lost Canvas and the Heaven chapter.

Imma stop now because I could write a thesis on this series and the injustices it has suffered! :cry_02:

Toilet bound Hanako kun (Jibaku Shonen Hanako-Kun):broken_heart:
And
Eden :heart:ļø
Tbhk made me cry :sob:

You have no idea how happy this makes me to see someone else mention Stellvia! :sob: It's one of my all-time faves. I've never seen anyone else ever mention it. The only reason I knew what it was is because back in the day, my mom would get me Newtype USA and there was an article for it. (For awhile I thought the anime was called "An Empty Jar Of Rock Candy" because of the article title. Lazy 5th grade reading from me lmao.) Also, the group that did the op - Angela - is amazing.

My picks for underrated animes would be:

  • Galaxy Angel
  • Crest of the Stars
  • .hack//Sign (used to be pretty popular)
  • Sola
  • Aria the Animation
  • Full Metal Panic (also used to be pretty popular)
  • Air (the other Key works always eclipse it but Air is my fave)

Some more
Best D&D anime (probably not underrated)

Was the biggest thing then forgotten.

Mind Game
(not exactly underrated but usually ignored) Its actually one of the greatest films ever made about life.

Utena movie (Redline was totally showing a nod to this film)

And my all time favourite. Tenshi no Tomago

And video girl AI

People used to talk about it all the time when I was in high school. I guess it's sort of an old otaku thing now.
