Greetings everyone,

I have some questions regarding WEBTOONS.

So I know so far that when you get Featured, LINE contracts and pays you something like 2000$ per month while you get to retaining all of your rights to your comic/manga, but you also had to make your series exclusively available on their platform digitally.

But I was wondering about some other aspects to this opportunity. If someone here has been Featured on Webtoons, could you please help me put some lights onto my following questions:

1- While you must make the digital format of your series exclusively available onto their platform, is it still possible to have my series printed and sold elsewhere?

2- Do you have a schedule to respect for your pages’ date release? Or can you upload as you see fit?

3- Can I, like, promote a fanart contest of characters from my own series for example?

Thank you!

The terms of the contract are for a very specific amount of time and after that you’re free to do whatever you want with the work. Though they are not very litigious and I’ve seen featured folks print books before their contract terms are up (I imagine they’re not all that interested in print). You should still bring it up with them if you want to negotiate that portion of your contract.

There is a schedule so they know what they’re paying you for exactly. But how often you choose to update is basically up to you and that will be brought up in contract discussions.

I imagine anything you can do to direct people to the comic and their platform, including fan art contests, would be an asset to them.

(1) yes Kickstarter or self-published. If with other publishers there's a period before you can do so and contract varies.
(2) yes, no
(3) yes
