What have you learned the most about yourself in 2020?

Yesterday I put up a post about what we miss the most over 2020 because, yeah, there's a lot for each and every one of us.

But, I venture a few of us learned some things, too and I don't mean a new language or a new hobby or something like that.

I'm betting a few of us used some of the time for serious reflection and learned a few things about themselves.

I learned I'm a hella more reclusive than I thought I was. I'm actually planning a month "away" somewhere after this is all over (found a great treehouse type apartment on vrbo).

Has this year given you a chance to find out something about yourself that you didn't realize (fully) before?

And... will you use the info to expand your craft?

I've learned that not everything has to be perfect for people to like it.
In every aspecto of my life I've always been very critique and negative forcing me to do only the things I knew people see from me as "good" and not trying new and experiment with my hobbies.
Now I'm more open to learn and try even knowing that my work isn't really as good as others, but since I've already had the "No", why not try and reach the "Yes"?

I Learned that if i work hard i can make my dreams come true.
Simple ones i didn't thought i would be able to conquer, like doing a fundraiser to make physical versions of the portuguese version of my comics (The english version is available here on Tapas, it's called "Mërj Revolution"). I can't even believe it all has worked out in the end and the supporters are already with the book in hands. This year was insane. Do some planning on how to get there and you will achieve what you hope for!

I learned that i still underestimate the time working on a page.
I learned that i still not brave enough to give opinions on forum. (not that i really want to most of the time)
I learned that i can be too eager to show all my stuff online.

I learned to be more understanding of my own mental health, which includes recognizing the little things/quirks about myself that I didn't recognize before, (like I've had stomach issues my entire life.) I also learned to accept that I deserve better. I'm one that'll put aside my happiness for someone else and some people took advantage of that. I am learning to stand up for myself.

Stay strong, grasshopper. I know the stomach issues, very much related to anxiety etc. You can do this.

My dad gave me the best advice I've ever had "never compete with the other guy, only compete with yourself."

And don't forget, in science a "failed" experiment isn't considered a failure, it just teaches you that that particular method doesn't work so try something else.

The fact that I can actually work on something for over 5 hours at a time without feeling tired out. Seriously my work on the comic has been long and hard yet I can only find myself enjoying that time no matter how difficult it is in the moment. Before I had no patience for doing anything and everything, focusing on one task for less that 15 minutes at a time. Now I know that if I enjoy something I can sink deeper than I ever imagined.

Apart from that, I can actually be an entertaining person. When I stream I actually have the sentiment that I am fun and enjoying myself which is something that I never imagined could happen. I've learned that to get good at something practice is necessary, that if I push myself and say that I am getting better I actually will and that despite all of the better works out there. I can one day push myself to reach their point of storytelling genius.

My dad once told me that no matter how good I was at something, someone will always be better but the only thing that really mattered was that I strove to be the best that I could be and not worry about the other guy.

I took it to mean develop my own talent, my own unique way of using it and not compare myself to others.

I’ve learned that my super power is limitless patience combined with bottomless willpower. With enough dedication I can do anything. I mean besides developing laser vision. But maybe that too if you give me enough time.

I've learned that I am much more resilient than I thought I was. Many things collapsed during COVID for me and not only I managed to get back up (though things never got to be like before), but also, I didn't give up until I did.

On a deeper example: i often heard the old saying about crisis also meaning oportunities, but actually started putting it in practice.

That the pandemic only really affected me in that I need to wear a mask to buy milk now? Happy introvert hermit powers, activate!

I think I learned that I really just enjoy being able to work on the things I want to and not being distracted by stupid things like being unable to sleep because I have to flip it for a work shift. No more "day shifts" in 2021.

I’ve learned that I love masks and I will be adding them to my regular wardrobe after all this blows over

I learned that I’ll never actually be ready so it’s worth it to jump in anyway (sometimes). And that it’s easier to cover up a panic attack while you’re grocery shopping when you’re wearing a mask
