For me, one of my triggers is the sound and appearance of rain when I'm inside. This captures what I mean.

What about you?

It all really depends.
Mostly, I'll be watching something on TV or online and hatch an idea from what I'm watching. That, or I will see an image or painting of some landscape, or anything really and draw up a story in my head.
The problem after that really is whether or not it stays in my head or I actually decide to jot it down.
I carry a pocket-sized moleskine with me everywhere I go - in case something comes to mind which I feel like I'd forget if I don't write it down.

Ideas in my head xD. Sometime a story will come out when sketching a new character or illustration as well!

Dreams, Nightmares, life experiences or shared stories about events that have transpired, music especially score like music that'd play in the background of a show or movie and those random ideas at 3am while you're staring at the ceiling

Honestly? Arrogance.

I come up with ideas because I think I can do better than something I've seen or read.

It's a mixture of wanting to make my own stuff and making content I would actually like to read. Like if no ones gonna make it for me might as well do it myself.

Myself. I write stories I enjoy because they're different or weird.

A strong love for story-telling and reading. I want to tell stories from ideas I get in the shower and go "wow, that's a pretty cool idea, brain"

I want to be able to finish said story and go back and read it and ENJOY it.

It's that undying need to consume what I create.

I know some people write stories because they want others to like it. I write because I wanna like it. For me, if I don't dig the story, I just might not even bother to finish it or I'll put it off to the side.

It cannot feel like a chore.

I am inspired to draw and write because my imagination is always everywhere. I like it when people can see what goes on in my head when they have similar ideas. People criticize me but I continue because it's what I like and I wont quit.

I had/have a lot of stuff I read and watch and play, so I can't pinpoint exactly what inspires me. I do like writing and it challenges me to think about the story and myself. I'm hoping I can enjoy a story I finish one day.

i used to be a mad little writer as a kid. i think what inspired me to write was the act of creating my own things, like my own little worlds, stories, people. i liked to enchant people and producing things for people to read.

Sometimes idea just come to be when I'm doing the most random things, but reading is what originally starting my desire to write so sometimes I will just pour myself into books.

I tried keeping things in my brain because I didn't think my thoughts and ideas were worth sharing.

This, among other things, caused my brain to break.

So now I share as much as I can. If ever I go fully mad, perhaps people a generation or two removed from me will look back and think me a genius. It's happened before =D !

Beyond that, I develop a passion for the ideas I conceive after a time. Like, Call Me Mara was supposed to be a prequel to a different story I was writing. But the more I tell her story, the more I care about her, and the more I care about her, the more moments I want to create. So it goes with pretty much every tale I tell. In a fun and horrifying way, once I pop, the fun don't stop .

What inspires me to write? I can't draw, LOL! No seriously though. What inspires me to write is the stuff and imagination that I have in my mind and stuff I want to express! I couldn't draw or didn't have the patience to draw, so I decided to focus on writing. I love expressing my ideas onto a piece of paper or Microsoft Word, lol, and putting it on sites like this or Deviant Art and people check it out! It's such a wonderful feeling because of the hard work, the editing it, the polishing you put into your work and you might or have a little fan base. That's what inspires me to write and keeps me going.

Doing mundane or repetitive tasks. Gives me time to think over where I'm at in my story, going over the same scenario and idea in my mind trying to figure out how to make it work or improve it. That's usually when the ideas just "click" and I beeline to my laptop to let the newly formed ideas flow forth.
