I love a good fantasy comic or movie. I honestly don't often like fantasy in written format, since you don't get any of the interesting visuals, and often they come off as over-done, cliche, or too DnD. As a visual medium, fantasy comics and films often use interesting visuals and try to break away from norms (most of the time).
That being said, I love reading Sci-fi. Alastair Reynolds as one of my favourite authors, as well as Cixin Liu.
As well, I also love a good noir thriller. Mystery as a genre has so much potential for mayhem and exploration of the human spirit, as well as its limitations. It's gritty, dark, and filled with all the things that makes us humans so detestable. I love it. Chandler really kicked it off for me, but then I started reading Ross MacDonald, and a few other contemporary mystery novelists. Though the genre often leans too heavily on obfuscating the solution to the problem, as well as stacking up dead bodies for thrills, it has great potential as a character study.
