Oh, I can't schedule. I receive the pages to color on saturday and post them on monday ^^;
But it's a good reason.
I do the same, but I don't mind the lil' extra work, I understand why they do that.
And comments notification... I do receive notifications on my cellphone. I had to deactivate them because I receive hundreds per update x'D
For regular art I like Twitter and IG. I was hesitant to branch out to them at first (and twitter has the downside of being constantly bombarded by politics) but they're really so much better than DA imo because of the layout. It's far easier to find new artists/ content this way. DA just has things sit and collect in a format that requires effort to go hunting in. Plus the sheer amount of category abuse for popularity climbing makes it annoying to find stuff that's relevant.
Artstation is really wild too. Took a long time to find the courage to make an acc and post my stuff but being able to just go and follow all these incredible artists is an amazing way to fill my inspiration folder and constantly find material I can learn from. Tapas is the only place I've posted comics too buuuuuut I really like that there's a forum here and the overall positive atmosphere. The few times I visited webtoons as a reader... kinda put off by the entitlement haha.
Tapas has been pretty good so far, it's very usable and I like how easy it is to comment and chat with others! The community has been pretty awesome! Only downside I can see is how easy it is to get buried, but honestly that's a problem with any art site. XD ;
Smackjeeves is alright too, but kinda dead from what I've seen. Still, gets points for usability.
I've been tempted to give webtoon a try, but the rating system (and the way it's abused) and lack of notifications makes me feel a little bit leery... Also, I'd have to find some way to deconstruct my pages to fit their format and still have it look decent. x_x
i used to post a lot on dA (RP related stuff) and Tumblr (fanart) but I stopped due to work and personal lack of interest.
now that i think about it, i rarely post any art beyond a few doodles on Instagram or Twitter, lol.
As for my webcomic, i post both on Tapas and Webtoons. And so far I like Webtoons a whole lot more than Tapas. So far the community has been waaay more interactive over there than on Tapas. The only downside is the lack of a proper notification center. And speaking of that...
how on earth did you manage to get notifications? X"D i got the notifications turned on in the settings, and yet i receive nothing haha...
I loooove tapas schedule feature, it's so useful, I also like that you can reorder the images very easily, in LW is so horrible to do that and doesn't even have a feature to schedule episodes
About dA, I feel like the site is dead, not more than tumblr, I almost don't post on my dA and what I post is just pages of my comic
Well I get more comments on Tapas, because I have more subs here than on LW, thanks to the staff for picking me to new comics section and daily snacks. While I've never been promoted by LW staff... I post there for more than two months already, have 11 very long episodes, and I've seen them promoting people with less than 5 episodes and about a month on the site. All I can see is my comic is 100% underrated on LW lol
That depends a lot actually, I think? I really like DeviantArt layout, but it might be because I'm using it for years now, haha.
It's a problem that could be easily fixed if they wanted to though, they can make a "New Comics" page or a "active comics" page too. Honestly fixing that one is not hard, it just requires that they actually want to do it.
Of course, some people could try to abuse it, but then it's their job to fix it as well x'D
I dunno, I am logged with Google+ maybe that's how?
I probably should try instagram after all. Huh.
Okay so... The webtoons thing, since we work in a team, I kinda don't understand the need of scheduling, since I receive pages on Saturday and finish them for posting on monday already.
Also, DA is kinda of... You NEED to spread your art to attract attention and make yourself noticeable. Groups, forums, and all that jazz.
The contrary happens to my and my mate's comic. We are underrated here on Tapas, while on Webtoons we flatuate between 9K subs and 12K subs with around 300 comments per update. So it really depends on what your story is focused on.
I noticed that BL's do well here on Tapas though.
For art probably art station since the format is nice and clean. I feel comfortable with linking people to it when I want to show my portfolio since the look and format is quite nice. As for comics, probably webtoons because of higher readership numbers for me as well as faster subscriber gain. It's also nice for me that a large number of comments come in right away (probably because people wanna get top comment tbh XD)
Deviant Art opened my art world, I created my account 4 years ago, that is also when I started drawing seriously, bought art tools and thought properly about how to make good drawing, instead of just doodle random things on my note book., I made a lot of friends from all over the world, some of them are still my good friends until now. It's sad that dA is clearly going down in both quaity and traffic, the people I'm watching is still posting but it's more likely a habit to them, and to me, too. All the journal notification is about someone repeatedly announcing their commission, no more journal about artist bragging about their life, everything is not as livevly as before, it's so... dead. And the front pages are just ... sad, I'm not sure if I can tell this is a site about art anymore.
Artstation is a great art platform, I'm browsing it everyday to enjoy good art, but as an artist, the standard of this site is a little bit too high for me to join in, I think my semi-realistic style can reach the bottom level at least, but it's taking too much time for me to make one piece with that style, I'm not aiming to be a concept artist or something that high level either, so I will just satisfy myself as as viewer for now.
I'm trying to use instagram and twitter but don't quite understand how these work yet, I think I'm a little too old to learn new tech lol.
I'm using both webtoons and tapas, I really like the tapas forum, it connected me to so many great creators and they are fun, but as a comic platform I think I prefer webtoons, huge traffic is one thing but I think they are doing better than tapas in displaying titles and hooking readers interact with the comic they are reading.
I started here on Tapas. From here I went on Webtoons.
Funny thing is that my most popular stories here aren't so popular on Webtoons. And I really only do the Webtoons thing as a means to further get my stuff out. If I had to choose, I'd stick with Tapas.
I decided to give Deviantart a go not that long ago. That move proved worse than Webtoons.
I'll every now and then plug something on Twitter, but I feel like my stuff is overlooked there.
Using Tapas and Webtoon. It's weird -- I've got four times as many followers on the latter, but get hardly any comments/likes from them. Very little engagement. I'm starting to think a lot of them are bots. As far as the features for creators, Tapas is way better. I love scheduling posts ahead of time and getting notifications about comments.
That said, I don't think my comic fits in really well with the crowds on either site. I'm an old dude, I guess, and fondly remember when every webcomic had its own website, and readers would visit dozens of sites a day instead of one or two walled gardens. Maybe it wasn't really any better like that, but the Tapas/Webtoon algorithms aren't helping me out much.
I'm in the same situation. I hardly get any comments on Webtoons even tho I have more subscribers there than Tapas. One day, I asked any readers to give me a shout out so I could figure who was real and who was a bot. I got several people writing on the comment thread telling me that they like my comic but they prefer to be a 'lurker' and staying in the shadows. At least on Tapas you can tell who 'like' your comic even if they don't wish to leave a comment
Well, sometimes people don't have time to post on the day and have to do something else, so it's very useful
If your comic is a romance, is there for a year (without getting promo) or got promoted by LW, have lovely characters to ship, is more likely to people check your content
About being underrated, I meant the genre which is crime/mystery, historical, superhero, sports, etc. getting promoted with these genres is like winning a lottery, unless I add another very popular genre, like romance to get more views and possibly subs
Recently a very underrated crime/mystery comic got promoted, it had about 800 subs before and it's now over 20k, and it is on LW for 6 months without getting any promo
Well, that's a dream. Haha.
I enjoy writing romances and don't find joy in brainstorming while writing stories for a mystery. I enjoy reading it, yeah, but I rather avoid writing it in itself.
We got promoted actually, even when our story was just fantasy snippets at first, we got 1k in 2 weeks, then we got on the Raising Star category on Webtoons.
Also, as much people praise Tapas community - the forums are good, but not the way the comics are handled. Since I noticed they aren't properly separated, nor have proper tabs either. But that might be because I am less than a month here, and I noticed such from various other people too.
LW at least is more active comic wise, while tapas is more active community wise.
Kinda, yes.
Tapastic, I noticed and dislike that, the people here gives preference to stories branded as BL/GL/NB, and that kinda makes me upset. Since some of these stories don't even have story, just, well, sexual tension, lmao.
And to be fair, we do make a comic with an Anime-like style, with a cartoonish coloring x'D
I can attest to this as one reader at least. I definitely have certain art styles I prefer (semi realistic anime) but that's only when the only thing being offered is a plain illustration. I'm open to any art style and skill as a reader as long as it suits the theme of the story and the visuals are clear enough on what's happening.
