I don't really choose things to read by genre... and that can make it tricky to find works that I like. A lot of sites and apps are kind of designed to recommend you stuff based on the genre, so if you read a really great superhero story, that has a tight plot, loveable characters and gorgeous art...it'll recommend me more superhero stories, as if the thing I liked about it was it being about superheroes, which wasn't really the case. Netflix rarely knows what to recommend me, because I base my choices more on the quality of the thing, or it having themes or tropes or a vibe I like, than the genre.
I like to browse the LGBTQ+ "genre" (which isn't strictly a "genre") on Tapas, because it's actually one of the most diverse and varied categories on the site. The only requirement in the LGBTQ+ category is that it in some way features queer characters (and it doesn't even need to have Romance between them, it can literally just be like... a bunch of Ace people on an adventure), meaning that it's home to a lot of the wacky, varied sorts of things I love, like Pandora's Devils, which mixes Fantasy, buddy cops, mystery, slice of life and GL elements, but also like Charity Case, which is more of a Slice of Life Drama with some Romance mixed in.
I like to create in that category too, because I don't really think of myself as "writing in a genre". Errant is obviously a Fantasy comic, but it's in a modern day setting, kinda like "urban fantasy"...except the power level is way too high and more like High Fantasy, and it has all these big swords and fights more like a superhero story, so it's like...okay, maybe it's a shounen manga? It looks a bit like a shounen manga! But it's largely focused on female characters and relationships, sometimes more like shoujo or even josei... I originally put it in "action", and then later shuffled it over to "LGBTQ+" where it actually fits in best, because there's stuff like "Magical Boy", "Pandora's Devils", "Hard Lacquer" in there. There isn't really a name for whatever this "queer, sometimes kinda magical adventures with feelings that might be a little subversive" genre is that contains things like Nimona or Lumberjanes, and overlaps with stuff like Steven Universe and Undertale... but there are enough comp titles that I know there's an audience. It's just tricky to categorise!
