What songs/bands inspire you?

I'm new and pretty shy and was wondering what songs inspire you guys when you're writing comics...

Hmmm... Usually I listen to tracker music like this, this, this, and this.

Other times I listen to this playlist and other times I listen to metal/punk like Do the Evolution by Pearl Jam or Revolution is my Name by Pantera. Jonothan Coultan also inspires me a lot.

It depends who I'm drawing!
For Heart Hex:
If it's a Lee-heavy scene, I tend to go more with The Dresden Dolls, Agent Fresco, I Monster, and Aeon Fux/Guayaba. Anything that feels eerie and talks a lot about lost love or regret. If it's Teo, I tend to listen to Porter, Zoe, Motion City Soundtrack or Bayside. Lots of Mexican rock and pop punk. Rosier... I tend to listen to soundtracks or musicals. He's very theatrical and I need to get pumped up. E Nomine and the Tanz Der Vampire soundtracks are favorites.

And if I'm working on Future Girl? I play a lot of upbeat, female-fronted bands, like Fight Like Apes, Girl in a Coma, and Shiny Toy Guns, or Amanda Palmer.

I listen to lo-fi if I'm writing or classical because I can't write and listen to songs with words,
Generally, I'll listen to anything though, Elvis Crespo, Cage the Elephant, Gorrillaz, rekstizzy, Nujabes, Radiohead
but if I REALLY need to feel inspired or moved I listen to Dumbfoundead, Jimi Hendrix, Year of the Ox, specifically Check 2 Check by Year of The Ox, that song I feel is super relateable to where I am creatively right now so it kinda drives me.

Now that you mention it, I think the album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips had a huge deal in inspiring my comic, specially the lyrics from the title track.

Radical Face (particularly the Family Tree trilogy of albums) directly inspired the mood for my series Erie Waters.

Most of the time though there will be a mishmash of artists that will inspire each series depending on the genre and general atmosphere.

radical face, angel haze, and certain raleigh ritchie songs are like, THE soundtrack to my comic. also, the call by regina spektor. also, the soundtrack to where the wild things are (by karen o, of yeah yeah yeahs) rings bigass Balor bells for me.

when writing There was a War, i tend to listen to soundtrack or playlists ive made of twaw-relevant songs - but thats mainly when im struggling to stay in the zone? usually i write in silence. but i draw best with the once and future nerd podcast on - its thematically similar in a lot of ways, and generally very good, so it keeps the wordy part of my brain engaged well.

I am a newbie as well, so don't worry!
I don't know, but somehow I like that question. Let's see:
There aren't any bands I listen to in particular. There are more single songs, which quite match the situation or the emotion I am trying to draw.
You see, it depends on so much.
I have a very strong affection for Jazz for example, which suits the time very well in which my comic is set.

Ehhh, I dunno if I can answer this firmly because I'm someone who listens to all types of music while I write XD

It can range from R&B to Classic Rock to Psychedelic Rock to 1980s J-Pop and etc. Though, when writing for my comics, I've got a select playlist I listen to for each other -- songs that I feel focus on the mood and scenes of my stories.

For example -- Within the Woods has Tame Impala and the Beatles on for its playlist because the whole atmosphere with the in-story cult is sorta surreal, hippie-like, and "dazed n confused".

Uhhhh, old country songs like Don Williams, or Waylon Jennings, or Johnny Cast, or Marty Robbins, or Willie Nelson. Sometimes I go indie and do The Cog is Dead, Katzenjammer, and more recently Vagabond Opera. And after THAT, when I want to get pumped for action scenes and stuff, I just go right to Meat Loaf, no save. XD
