What tools do you use?

For Fallacy I do thumbnails traditionally with a pen on normal printing paper. I love the freedom of being able to sketch things out anywhere.

After that I scan the thumbnails and get to work with Clip Studio / Manga Studio (which ever you want to call it). I did buy some extra brushes for it tho, as I have no idea how to create those by myself and I wanted somet hat mimic traditional watercolors.

I use Wacom Intuos Pro as my drawing tablet and I'm quite in love with it. I used to have an old, crummy Trust tablet but it broke and I'm actually happy about that as I had to buy a new one. :'D I also used to use a combination of SAI and Photoshop but thankfully now I can do everything with one program.

When I work traditionally I either use micron pens or liquid ink for inking and coloring is usually done with watercolors. Sometimes (very rarely) I also work with copics or crayons.

For my comic Shades Of Men I started with paper and ink.
But switched to all digital a few years back.

I draw on a mini Ipad, with art studio app and Adonit Jot pro stylus.
It's good on the go but I have to say a bigger screen wouldn't be a bad thing!

For both of my comics Seishin Patona and In The Midst I use Adobe Photoshop CS5 to make them. I tried making my comic traditionally when I start back in 2006 but it wasn't for me so in 2010 I went digital.

For Scarlet Black and Slow & Quicky, I use 100% of Clip studio Paint. In Disfiguratve Meaning I had used paper and pencil in some rare occasions.

I use Photoshop for rough, inks and tones. I currently use a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch (pretty old model now). I was doing the rough sketch on paper but I'll probably gonna go pure digital starting volume 3 since I'm still redrawing them after I scanned the rough pages because I'm so bad at traditional drawings...

For Runewriters I use......... a lot of non-photo blue. xD

• sketch the page really really roughly on paper, scan it in, use photoshop to adjust the colours so all the lines are cyan instead, and print that out on cardstock.
• go over that again with pencil to tighten everything up, scan it in, use photoshop to remove the all the cyan, so the sketch is gone and I'm left with just the tightened up pencil lines.
• adjust the colours on those pencil lines to be cyan and print the new version out on cardstock.
• ink over the cyan pencils with a ballpoint pen. Scan it in, use photoshop to remove all the cyan, and I have my lineart!
• colour and letter the page with photoshop. I use an old Wacom Graphire tablet because for some reason I just don't like the intuos as much as my old standby. xD

It always sounds a bit overcomplicated, but idk man, it just works for me! xD So I guess my tools are
- cardstock for printing (from an office supply store)
- a nice ballpoint pen
- a mechanical pencil
- photoshop
- WACOM Graphire Blue tablet
- a printer (currently Epson)
- a scanner (currently Epson)

I've used a lot of different programs* but the one I'm using now is Paint Tool Sai, And so far its the one I've enjoyed the most.
That and a bamboo tablet

For all of my series, I'm all Manga Studio 5 (the hard copy of ClipStudio) since it caters to my needs for comic making. Also it was really cheap compared to Photoshop. (I also adore the textured inkbrush. It just looks good and has a brilliant bleeding effect)
Although I still don't know everything about how the program works, you can still jump in and start creating stuff. And as you find out more tools, it doesn't take long to add them to your arsenal. I am going to have to watch the hours of tutorials to get a grasp of everything soon though.

I currently use a Wacom Bamboo Style drawing tablet.

For my new series The Working Stiff, I've been trying something new. I go back and forth between physical and digital through out the process.

1. I thumbnail traditionally in my Moleskin Sketchbook
2. Scan that in and do my layouts and rough pencils with my Wacom Cintiq in Photoshop
3. I print those out and light box them to Bristol board in Non-Photo blue led
4. Ink that with Microns and a variety of Brush Pens.
5. Finally I scan those inks back in and do my colors/effects and lettering in photoshop again with the assistance of my Cintiq.

That sounds a little convoluted but I still can't quite get the same quality line work if I try to ink digitally. I still really love the tactility of doing that traditionally.

For From Greatness to Dust I use Google Docs, a paper sketchbook, Photoshop CS5.5, Illustrator CS5, a Wacom Intuos 5, and Blender.

1. I wrote down the general plot outline, and then break it down into scenes with dialogue and action.
2. I use either photoshop or a sketchbook to draw up the rough thumbnails and ideas for how the page will be laid out.
3. After deciding on my final layout, I build the page setup in Photoshop: Panel outlines, speech bubbles, page styling.
4. If necessary, I make some 3D renders using Blender to get an idea of lighting and perspective for some panels.
   (the models and textures I use in blender are made by me, so I'm not like ripping off something existing)
5. I go back into photoshop and block out color and form. I then continue to work through until I have my final paintings.
6. For certain background things like screens or posters, I use Illustrator's shape builder tools to make designs.

Once I'm finished with school (in about 4 weeks), I'll be back at this process.

Okay, from start to finish:

Good ole Ticonderoga #2 wood pencils from any 'Mart,' but with a kneaded eraser via online (michaels).
Neenah Vellum Bristol Card/Cover Stock (8-1/2" x 11") from any office supply store.
Thus ends the pencils.
Scanner to import the pencils into Manga Studio 5.
Inking and coloring/toning/shading using a Wacom Intuos Touch Small.
Lettering via the standard Fonts/Bubbles in Manga Studio 5.

I think that covers it.

I used to just do traditional comics with fineliners and cross-hatched shading, but now with In Our Shadow I just scan hand-drawn lineart and colour it using Open Canvas. I really love that program. Although I must admit I have to use photoshop for the purdy lightings and what not.
