What trope/cliche does your novel embrace?

Tropes and cliches can be tedious, but even the most seasoned writers must have that special one that always creeps into your work that you can't help but love...

My story has the double tragic backstory trope because I love when people meet someone who understands them and helps put each other back together.

A LOT of my creations include a usually gruff, terse, distant male.
I dunno what it is about them, but I love them.

A current trope I have in my novel is the beauty and the beast scenario. Except Beauty isn't that beautiful herself, and the beast stays a beast, it's more metaphorical in this sense.

Many of our stories have unlikely partnerships. One of them has "enemies to lovers." Tropes are fun to work with sometimes.

Lmao, the entire premise of my story is a "guy wakes up in a foreign place with Amnesia" trope, though i go out of my way to subvert that later on.

I have this thing when when I like to start my story at the middle of a dialogue and adding neccessary details from this point to make the situation clear. It's like movies starting in a middle of whatever is going on and gradually you're making sense of it.
And the other thing is that a have this obsession of giving my characters names starting on "J". In my language we have don't have this letter as well as names starting with it, so mabe this is why all those Jacks and Jills sound cool to me.IDK.

i dont think that starting scenes in the middle of dialogue is a cliche i think that is more a question of style...

I will be honest, I don't care about those. If it works and gives life to my story it simply happens to be part of it. I have a lot of other things planned and plot twists to keep things interesting. Not boasting about my skills here. Just stating that when you are thinking ahead, the story praticaly writes itself. Itis like the plot unfolded like a movie in front of your eyes. I should be concerned about cliches, but I am a lot more concerned about the lives that my characters are living and their struggles to win. I believe it is quite impossible nowadays to avoid some cliches, but we can make then less obvious even if they are present. Just my two cents in the subject, hope someone find it useful.

I don't know what they call it, but I like the typical love triangle thing in romances. Where, there is the second male lead who never seems to get the girl and the arsehole who always gets chosen. This is a premise that I use in my stories but I try and spice things up by adding a few red herrings.

For Thy Broken Mind it has the Villian Protagonist trope! The MC is very much evil. Has no regards for human life and honestly has zero interest in being a hero. Also there's the whole, Mad Love trope that comes into play but yeaaaah XD Embracing the terrible tropes!

Honestly there's a few but they're all pretty cute since its a romcom. You can tell I'm heavily influenced by manga and light novel writers. I try and take cliches and make them unique with my own perspective and a very different writing style. my story sundown is a men in black-ish urban fantasy so its probably got a good handful

• the supernatural community has its own social media thats invite only. if they find out a human got on the mods will ban both them and the account that gave the invite code.

• the agency has silver bullet guns that will poison vampires and kill werewolves

• the agency also has restraints/cuffs that netralize magic based abilities

• vampires show up in mirrors that are backed with aluminum, but not in silver ones. the agency has one way glass made with silver that vampires are only partially visible through

• i chose miami as the setting partly because of the nostalgia factor, but also because its not used too often and has a really cool aesthetic of super old architecture contrasting against sterile modern architecture

Land of Faerie

• the fair folk have a pocket dimension in a VERY low civillian traffic neighborhood becausr they feel like the human world is filthy and dont care for hiding. the eternity club is also a space in between these dimensions.

• one of the main protags is the head vampire of the city and is very careful of how he presents himself in front of humans.
