What trope/cliche does your novel embrace?

Honestly there's a few but they're all pretty cute since its a romcom. You can tell I'm heavily influenced by manga and light novel writers. I try and take cliches and make them unique with my own perspective and a very different writing style. my story sundown is a men in black-ish urban fantasy so its probably got a good handful

Post-Modern Magik

• the supernatural community has its own social media thats invite only. if they find out a human got on the mods will ban both them and the account that gave the invite code.

• the agency has silver bullet guns that will poison vampires and kill werewolves

• the agency also has restraints/cuffs that netralize magic based abilities

• vampires show up in mirrors that are backed with aluminum, but not in silver ones. the agency has one way glass made with silver that vampires are only partially visible through

Aliens in Cardiff

• i chose miami as the setting partly because of the nostalgia factor, but also because its not used too often and has a really cool aesthetic of super old architecture contrasting against sterile modern architecture

Land of Faerie

• the fair folk have a pocket dimension in a VERY low civillian traffic neighborhood becausr they feel like the human world is filthy and dont care for hiding. the eternity club is also a space in between these dimensions.

Friendly Neighborhood Vampire

• one of the main protags is the head vampire of the city and is very careful of how he presents himself in front of humans.

I'm such a sucker for enemies to lovers, though in my case it's enemies to begrudging friends to begrudging lover to- whoa, I think I've actually caught feelings while we're fake dating. So, obviously fake dating is a cliche I'm playing around with too.

i honestly hate to admit this, but i almost always end up doing the shipping trope where one person is a sad, depressed child with a tragic backstory who is soft for the ball of sunshine

i... i have written this trope in so many times, in so many projects... and i have shipped so many ships that follow this trope. i think i have a problem

Umm...Let's see.

Here are a few patterns I know I have.

1. The Kid Hero. They're usually about as young as thirteen.

2. I have a strange fascination with blonds and scars/locks of hair over the eye.

3. Nihilism in the sense that the main character(s) follow their heart(s) and desires BECAUSE nothing matters.

4. Adoptive siblings.

I'm not looking to be the next Stan Lee, but...

Goodness I have so many! It took a bit to think of which ones are the more hyper focused...

1) Transhumanism.

2) Reincarnation.

3) Culture clash. More specifically people learning and enjoying each other's perspectives even if its very alien and hard to understand. The desire and hope to learn and understand.

4) Finding family. It can be romantic but what matters most to me is people bonding with each other. Its extra fun when there is a clash of personalities!

5) Ambiguous/Bittersweet Endings feel more real to me.

6) Gods/deities. Can never get enough of them.

Oooh, good topic. I have to say I always embrace the trope at first and make an attempt to spin it into a different one. A great example is my Prince's Priest Series. A lot of the starting themes seem rather expected or tropey, but as the story unfolds it chisels and reshapes into something else.

1) Runaway Prince scenario
2) Beloved Mentor setup
3) Lone Wolf Hooded Figure
4) True Love is in Danger

...then I break it or shift it and create questions...

1) Is it really running away if a bad guy covered it up and the King was waiting for him to leave?
2) Was it that he was his mentor or more of the fact his best friend lost his last family member?
3) Are you really a lone wolf when you are always with other people? And hooded figure doesn't work well when everyone can tell you are the "runaway prince" and are just accepting this is how you want to live now lol.
4) What if the Main Character is treated as the true love in danger and is oblivious?

New Creator, but a reader always hunting for more content to consume. Outside of Tapas I am an award-winning author who is looking to grow and expand in new ways. Definitely, and there are different kinds to boot! In novels, I know there's the Romance with Aliens Sci-fi and then horror aliens like something from the movies and all shades in-between!

I am partial to Enemies to Lovers too! Something about it just feels more tangible and realistic? I was never one to Instant love or like people, not to the level romance novels make their characters fall for one another, which makes the Enemies to Lovers genre more my speed since it slows the insta-love vibe down and builds better.
