Hey!
I'm struggling a bit with sound effects.
What do you think a hug would sound like?
The violent kind, that you don't really expect? So far I got "wam" or "sbaf" ^^

A couple I've been seeing in some comics is "shf" or "sft." Kind of the sound of fabrics rubbing against each other?
Though I don't think it really honestly always needs a sound effect.

i would go for the obvious and just use (GRAB) OR (HUG) im a pretty close minded persons

I'd go for a 'squish'. I guess it's a personal preference, but I don't like outright saying what action my characters are doing. It defeats the purpose of drawing it out lol.

POMF.

At least, that's what it sounds like in my head.

Looking around, it varies on the nature of the hug.

A soft, gentle hug might not make any sound, or very little. But a vigorous or enthusiastic hug could make a sound.

Focus on the nature of the hug. Is one person slapping the other on the back? Did one person grab or jump on the other? Maybe limit sound effects to accent specific actions- like patting on the back, or the rustling of fabric- to express something more specific about the action- like intimacy or enthusiasm.

Depends what they're wearing I guess?

If it was a pair of armored dudes it would be like KKkshink

If it's people in suits maybe like a shfft

People in jumpers? Paff?

"Frmph", "Fmph" or "Fmp" are variations that come to mind - a combination of two bodies colliding lightly and the sound their clothes make.

Thanks to all!
I do like the "FMP" effect. It does have a strong sudden hug feeling!
I'll try out a few things

For a rather dramatic hug... maybe "paf" or "fwmf". XP
For something more delicate though I probably wouldn't put in any sound effect.

Yeah I'm going to go against the crowd and say that not everything needs a sound effect. SFX are when visually or with dialogue it isn't clear what's happening. A hug is pretty clearly a hug.

Personally I found a lot of SFX used in comics uneccessay. I don't need a step step lift sit series of SFX written out.

do you need one? I mean honestly sound effects are from hard impacts, things that make actual sound. Hugs make no sounds.

If youre still looking for suggestions, I would use "wmph" .... dont have anything to back up the statement, it just seems to be a sudden hug sound, especially since sudden hugs tend to be fairly forceful from the two bodies impacting each other

i just remember there was a comic that use to do a (RUB AB DUB) for almost everything even hugs, maybe that would work

It's true they don't but since I'm not showing the whole image of the hug itself, it really helps to add a sound effect.

I went with "whmp". It has a muffled and violent feeling at the same time ^^
