When someone draws fanart with not-canonical couple shipping

I'm more than fine with it! Shipping is fun, and it shows that people enjoy the characters. The only times I would have a problem with it is if I find the ship inappropriate for whatever reason (incest, pedophilia, abuse, etc) or if the shipper is being pushy about what they think should be canon.

Fan art is art the fan imagines. It doesn't have to be canon or given a creator's thumbs up. Fans can and should draw what they want and wish on whatever whimsy

I've got nothing against fan art. People will draw and write what they want to.

But, if someone keeps bothering me about a ship that's not canon or sends me something that promotes any of the things @feardeer spoke on, then I have a problem with it and I will speak on it.

That is unless the fan goes rabid ala Voltron and threaten me if their crackship does not become canon.

Haven't received fanart like that yet, but I have nothing against it. I'm shipping a lot of non-canon stuff so gotta put myself on the other end too and I'm actually curious what ships would my readers come up with. I think I would be ok with any non-canon ship as long as it's not something that would be wrong or illegal. It wouldn't be okay if someone were too pushy about their ship. If the fanart would be way to sexual or weird (fetishy kind of weird) I think I would just feel uncomfortable. xD

I'm not popular enough to have someone draw fanart of my characters, but I'm all for non-canonical pairings! That's part of the joy of imagination, and I'd be happy if someone thought my characters worthy enough to pair up in different ways~

I'm a huge advocate of fanfiction (read and written some weird ones in my day, they're great for practicing writing). imo bring on the weird, kinky shit, I may not be into it but someone else will be, and if it's of my own creations then I'm all the more flattered.

I've gotten shipping fanart before and know that some people ship characters in my comic. I think it's great! I am a huge shipper myself sometimes and I understand the appeal. I'm cool with almost everything, even though until now the shippers have been very well behaved

It would get a bit iffy for me, if someone were to draw fanart which rubs up against my morals. One of my main characters is 15 and any explicit content with him and a much older character would definitely make me uncomfortable. Same with some fetishes. But that is only hypothetical, so it doesn't matter for now.

Were someone to draw something that I dislike I would probably just ignore it. Everyone should be allowed to draw what they like, but I don't have to endorse it, just because it includes my characters. So I wouldn't give it a platform. Still wouldn't shame the artist though.

I've never got fanart like that jet. But I think I generaly wouldn't have much problem with that if it fitts to the charas... One of my charas is very inhibited (i hope I got the right translation), and I would feel very offput and maybe even offended by even kissing-scenes xD The other chara thought... I wouldn't have any problem with sexy stuff... because it would totaly fit her character ^^

that said! i have had some non-canonical shipping in the comments of my latest/current comic and as a general i find it amusing, i understand where it comes from- but also the more i think about it (those characters as a couple) the more uncomfortable i feel about it. the age difference and mental maturity difference is too big. That’s Not Evident In The Comic Yet Though——
anyway what i’m saying is, i’d maybe enjoy it less or differently than if i got non-ship fanart of a couple i ‘disapprove’ of, because there Would be that info in the back of my mind, but at the end of the day i’m going to love & adore every piece of stray fanart that comes my way
it’s very easy to disconnect “i feel about these characters in canon [this way]” from “in the real world, someone somewhere liked my creation enough to think about it in their free time theorizing about couples and then create something based on that, and that’s awesome”

I've gotten a lot and I love and encourage it! Heck I've drawn all the possible shippings of my 5 main characters myself cause I think it's fun and cute to imagine them in different pairings. Although part of the appeal of my comic is that you kinda don't know what the final pairing will be (but like some are obviously not gonna happen XD)

However if the pairings are... like... inappropriate- Like parent x child. Or if it is violently portraying some rape scene.... NO. None of my characters are like that and that would really bother me.

There are quite a number of characters in the greater Amazement Universe of comics. I can only remember one person telling me about what characters would be in their fan-shipping, but nothing beyond that. Of course, it would be interesting to see if one day someone created fan art shipping two characters they really liked or even the possibility of them interacting from Amazement Comics, despite the fact that it will not be in canon.

Some creators are pretty harsh about it but most don't care! I don't really mind what people ship. Some readers like the idea of Annabelle and Luna being properly in love and that's fine. Some readers are happy with their canonical involvement. Canon isn't everything. Screw canon.

I'd be fine with it. I think it's pretty fun to see how people interpret the characters and their actions.

And I've done it before too! lol A number of times actually... all the while thinking "THIS IS WRONG. THIS IS WRONG." But it was by request and maybe some other reasons too.

I actively encourage all ship art, even if I don’t care for it. No matter how sweet or how depraved the ship or portrayal is.

If someone wanted to draw Cassandra (28) getting inappropriate with Hazel (12), well I wouldn’t personally care for it but hey - you do you.

Honestly I’d really only object if they made the ship art something sociopolitical or tried to insist that the characters were whatever sexuality they felt like projecting onto them - like, canonically, not just for fanon or an AU type deal, no matter how much evidence there was to the contrary.

That and any Polyships. You can do it, but I’m gonna ignore it and frown upon it due to personal squick. I won’t say you can’t do it tho.

I want people to have fun with my characters, I just don’t want my characters being used as mouthpieces. That’s what I can’t stand. But I encourage people to do shippy stuff. Otherwise I’d have to do it myself and that’s just gonna take up too much time.

I do this myself so I'm completely fine with it.
For my livestreams when requests are down we do diceroll shipping sketches. We get some weird pairings.
I know one of my readers also ships characters from across my comics which is quite impossible.
It's all in good fun.

But yeah I would absolutely love that. I used to 'ship all sorts of weird stuff, so it would be pretty hypocritical of me to get mad about it, lol. I'd be upset if it was like, morally objectionable (pedophilia, etc.), or if they started harassing people over their 'shipping preferences, but as long as it's all in good fun I'm down with it.
