Where did you get your inspiration for your story?

I think nearly everyone has some source of inspiration for their stories and characters. Maybe you have more than one! I’d love to hear about what inspired your stories and the characters in them!

The original idea for my story first came when I dreamt one of the scenes and thought the concept was very cool. The story evolved from that into what it is now! For the overall vibe of the story and characters, I tend to take inspiration from music aesthetics I find on pinterest :^). I have a lot of boards and a few playlists I like to look at and listen to when i get ready to write to help give me ideas and brainstorm as well as set the mood!

Elsie was inspired by a random idea I had while I was bored in church. I simply wrote Steampunk Superhero. The concept was there but I didn’t think it would come into fruition until my friends I had at work got me into Steampunk and shared the basics and such. Elsie didn’t really catch on to me until I was looking for voice actors and I found a voice for Ernest. The voice of Ernest developed the character he was playing and he sort of became my cowriter for the comic. Elsie was always going to be a Victorian romance but it wasn’t as fleshed out until after I finished the first book of Cracking Eggs.

Speaking of which, Cracking Eggs came about when I discovered the fact that British eggs are illegal in the USA for being unwashed and American eggs were illegal in Britain for being washed. So I just decided to make a crime story out of it because I thought it would be funny.

My first story is nonfiction, and therefore was inspired by actual events.

My second story is a shapeshifter fansasy and was inspired by my own dreams of flying

I've always loved shonen battle manga and teen drama tv shows so I smashed them together.

For SickBoy - was inspired while having the flu (regular flu, B4 covid). It's common for family and friends to joke and say 'Hey keep your flu' , a fan of horror movies and games I imagined what if spreading your flu had horrid consequences? What if people turned into monsters when you spread your germs? And as a superhero/ fighting videogame fan too I imagined what if instead of headache and fever you got superpowers? Combined those to form the story's virus.

My biggest inspirations are growing all the time. But I definitely have some I can point out!

Hunter X hunter: for it's world and power system. I've said here before but it's such a deep and complex system that I feel like it has so much room for cool fights

Redwall: A really cool story that set my expectations moving forward.

Bone: One of the few comics I've truly fallen in love with. It's humor and badass cast are a mainstay in my heart.

Gravityfalls: Can't forget this show. It's full of love and attention few shows get nowadays.

For Guardians of Man its based on a lot of stuff that happened in my life, Things that freak me out or disturb me, stuff I read in the news, true crime etc its almost fully inspired by real events (not based on!)

For my second comic (not published yet)
The 70s as a whole
My fascination with history
I know there's some X men influence in there but gosh it was unintentional
And the main character is just Anikin Skywalker if he didn't talk much lol
I've had this second story since I was 15, making it one of my older stories but so SO much about its influences has changed since I first made it
But comparatively to the first one this one's more fantastical

I guess it's a mix of...

American newspaper comics. I liked the whole slice of life/sitcom feel of them
Class of 3000. It was a school life show but there was a focus on the teacher and I wanted to make something where teachers and school staff were given deeper development.
Weird Naruto AUs I made when I was a teenager. I've tried to distance myself from Naruto but some of the character parallels are still there.

The comic Mukhtar has a lot of inspirations, it was partially inspired by a manga called kingdom due to battle scene in large scale.

it was also inspired by Tolkien's and Peter Jackson's Lord of the rings contents.

It is inspired by Arabian culture, mythology, history, and religion, this also includes the global history from bronze age to the napoleonic era.

Though the story of the MC was my own idea, the character Mukhtar wasn't inspired by any popular characters due to his goal is trying to be a great man.

I am planning to make a second comic that will be relelased on early 2025. it is based on sci-fi and it is inspired by popular science fiction series like Warhammer40k, Star wars, Star trek, and the current novel Three body problem by Liu Cixin

I have vivid dreams that seemed to continue with the same charcters. Its been going on since I was in my teens. Still have them. I used to write short stories. They were about 32 pages each, full legal size paper long. I wrote during my lunch breaks on lined paper, then typed up on the old 'must type in DOS to open a program' old IBM computer. Still have them saved on my floppy drive disk.
I'm my 40s now and haave been taking those stories and adjusting them to fit a more manga narrative.

Most of my story ideas come after I have some caffeine and listen to music. It’s often not that my caffeinated ideas are “better” but I often just think the ideas are better. I should probably learn to see the value in some ideas as opposed to immediately shooting them down.

A few years ago, I wanted to start up another comic, but my creativity had been severely impacted, so I needed an easy concept. I had been sitting on the domain dogslovebacon.com for several years, so it quickly turned into a comic about my two dogs, since they are furry little comic muses.

Tanglewood was initially inspired by an obscure fairy tale I found called Tatterhood. Although as I was planning the webcomic it morphed into something different, so it's probably hard to see the resemblance between the two.

My webcomic, Chion and Kobi, is inspired by middle school life. It's set in small town Maine during the early 2000s. The comic is set from 2001-2004. I lived in Maine throughout my middle school life. I had a guinea pig and a had a crush on someone in school. All my life experiences back then served as a perfect inspiration for my webcomic and good story to start off as my first comic I made. I did make artistic changes to differentiate from real life. I looked at photos of my old Maine town as reference for my setting. I viewed Chion and Kobi as a personal project of mine.
