Wattpad - Currently broken search functionality and tag rankings, but still one of the best sites for novels. It has over 65 million users (so roughly the entire population of the United Kingdom), mostly within the 18-25 bracket. It's a long game site, where you have to consistently upload (at least once a week if not more), and it will eventually reward you. Numbers wise, you won't grow as big as fast as you will on Tapas, but there is a greater opportunity for growth as an author - especially if you participate in the forums, book clubs etc. If you write Romance or anything aimed at the Teen market, this is also a huge platform for it. It just takes years to get anywhere on it. (Also possibilities to have your stories in the Paid Stories programme, Wattpad Stars 'incubator' programme and to pitch your ideas to studios etc).
RoyalRoad - Depending on what you write, this can be a good option. It has a very 'light novels' feel. I personally haven't posted here, because I get a bit of a vibe from the community that I don't like regarding LGBTQA fiction. However, the ability to leave reviews is awesome, and I am constantly tempted by it. Overall, isekai works seem to do very well there.
2Tales - Was created during the last Wattpad exodus. It's decent. Similar to RoyalRoad, but deader than a doornail on the user base. I don't know anyone who gains traction through it.
Radish/Inkitt - Unless you're Tamara Lush, you aren't likely to draw in much through this website. Even then, I think Tamara Lush has abandoned whichever one she used for Wattpad now? However, it must be said that if you write certain genres, it's still possible to make it with Inkitt/Radish, but it's a hard slog.
Webnovel - Just nah. They have an awful TOS for writers. Don't touch it.
And just for comparison's sake:
Tapas - Strong sense of community and most friendly to LGBTQA works - with a heavy emphasis on Romance and Fantasy. Novels division still small, so you're able to build up a fanbase quickly and easily. Rewards daily/weekly upload schedules and it's relatively easy to rank on novels if you're a committed writer. Good conversion for Patreon too if that's what you're after. Novels still not as popular or as promoted as webcomics, but that may change in the future, as the novels division expands. Opportunity for Premium if you reach 300+ subs and put in a pitch.
