I started my comic about a month ago. This was my way to express the stresses of my life as a teenager. Whether it be about arguments with my sister, or small things like homework. I decided to look at things that happen to me in a different light. I decided to smile at them rather than feel sad or mad. I decided to look at them like a joke. A funny meme. So I made my comic. And made my life into one big meme. Decided to make everyone else except for me into a stick figure; otherwise known as a side character. So I hope everyone that reads my comic, has the feeling of relatability. I hope everyone that reads gets a sense of happiness. I want to read everyone else's story's too, on why they created their comics! Please comment and enlighten me XD So, on that note. Check out my comic!

A friend of mine had cancer and had to shave her head. Her boyfriend surprised her and shaved his head too so she wouldn't be alone. It was my inspiration for starting my main webcomic.

My recent webtoon, I've been pretty down lately so I wanted to have a short story to bring just a small cute moment into other people's day. Instead of adding drama and tension into it, I just wanted to keep it strictly romance.

I've always loved writing, and I've always loved art. I wrote a book last year, and found that reading through walls and walls of text to find mistakes was driving me completely insane. Not only that, but my books tended lend themselves more towards manga-esque themes anyway. I find that doing comics not only makes me happier because I'm doing more stuff and I'm more proud of a comic page than a book page, but also because editing, for me, is much more enjoyable with the comic even if it's harder. I can see whats wrong with an art piece pretty quickly and not have to read my walls of text 100 times to the point of wanting to beat my head against my desk haha.

In the end, I have stories to tell and Comics are the best medium for me

both your stories, are epic. I'm so sorry for your friend @sorible , and it's awesome what you're doing! And yeah, @Azureheim i completely understand. I have a novel too but I'm thinking of putting it on indefinite hiatus because I just don't have the motivation and the editing is really difficult for me. It's a lot easier editing a comic for some reason.

for my in-progress actually story-having comics.. the answer would be much different.

but for my comic strips.. I like the genre a lot!

it's a challenge to have something to say, be it an wholesome observation, or a rant about something you dislike... and turn it into something entertaining that isn't just "the statement".
rather, you try and come up with allegories and metaphors.

which then also need to fit into a structure so you can have an actual punchline at the end.

Aaaand I really enjoy this whole process from Having and Idea... to Coming up with a funny or enaging way to tell it.

and extra fun when I manage to make something that people can project on in all sorts of different ways!

Lastly, I also like how I can play around with the art a lot. I can keep it reduced, but i also can go big. and every new chaper offers a new start.

... also sometimes I just wanna goof around

ThatĀ“s an interesting question. IĀ“m born as a creator, I like creating things for myself and for other people, I donĀ“t know if IĀ“m good or bad at it
but thatĀ“s what I do with my life and there has never been another option

I like action, I like fantasy, wacky stuff, anatomy, people that are ridiculously pretty, I like horror, edgy stuff, gothic monsters. And most of all, I like drawing and telling stories, even moreso telling stories through visuals. I've been doing so ever since I was a little kid drawing naruto fan fics, and nothing has changed.

I started work on mine after reading some of my old Sonic the Hedgehog comics to my young children. I remembered the books one way, but they ended up being a bit cringe-worthy at times (especially the earlier issues that reenforced negative gender stereotypes despite their efforts to actively denounce them (issue #14 of the Archie series was the major catalyst)). I felt like I was actively giving gender biases to these beautiful blank slates and it got me writing the book I wished they had instead (that I wished I had as a kid). The book became more grown-up as I developed, but with how long it takes to make a comic series- it would be age appropriate by the time I was done (and, you know, we found better books and TV shows in the meantime (She-Ra, Ducktales, etc).

I had never made a comic before so I also gave myself permission to fail (or not be great at first). It was nice to push past that fear hurdle and make a thing.

Started my comic because I wanted to write a story that's not based in a fandom. I'm a fanfic writer so wanted to have a go at making something that's not fanfic. I'm better at novel writing so in hindsight I should've done that instead...

Well, there are plenty of reasons for me. Mostly its' due to the fact that I would love to make an animated series of my own, but because animation is very hard and time consuming, I decided to make comics, which is a easier route.
I've always made comics of my ideal animated series, but I never really shared them with anybody since I was really shy. In 2017 I came up with an idea for an anime-styled series and I decided to work on it by making a manga/graphic novel.

I've always wanted to tell a story and I will always try my best to inspire other people!

@Yulek O.o that's precisely why I made my comic. I was reading back what I wrote but it just felt like i was forgetting something. Thank you for putting that into words for me!

@Puck That's reasonable. I completely understand that. I'm way better on paper than I am on a laptop, so my drawing is significantly different.

@FafasMcMelt I like those genres too! They really have a lot going and I always love the variety. Story-telling has always been something I loved to do, so I'm just happy I'm able to do what I do here.

@DanielRKM That's really cool! Glad you're doing something you love to do! And also happy you decided not to give up!

@iHateFridays Don't say that! Never give in to negative thoughts! You just have to think positively and keep at it, until you reach a point where you're happy with yourself and you're comic!

@TheDoublekey Hey, that's awesome! Sometimes people put to much on themselves thinking they are able to keep up and do it. But on off chances they aren't able to power through. So, the fact that you took a step back and did what you yourself are able to do is really epic! I'm happy for you!

I've had characters, stories and a whole universe for them rattling around in my skull for closing in on two decades, now. I always knew I wanted to tell those stories eventually. I finally started my comic because I'd recently decided that was a better medium for me than a novel, and because I felt like artistically, I was strong enough to begin telling my stories the way I wanted to tell them.

My current comic, Blue Star Rebellion, is technically a side-story to a much larger project, but you can't really tell. It stands on its own very well. I wanted to use it to 'cut my teeth' as a comic artist, so to speak. I've never made one before, and between pacing, panelling, consistency, lettering and everything else, there's a lot to practice!

That's really cool! I'm glad you started the comic, it looks really cool! I personally really like drawing. So drawing. and configuring the comic is a lot easier for me. Well...really almost everything is ironically too easy for me. I think i'm going to make a panel on the process i use to make a panel lol but long story short. I feel like making the comic and improving my art skills is fun. If it isn't fun. Then i may as well quit lmao

if i don't get the stories out of my head they'll haunt me /hj

honestly tho i've had a love for story telling for as long as i can remember so when it came to realizing i could write them and even more draw them i jumped in without really looking back. like i started my first webcomic on a whim during my early years on tapas, going for the gag a day/slice of life format since that's what was booming around that time and it felt like something i could be good at.

as time passed i realized there were more plot driven stories that i wanted to tell. Characters who lived in my head with tales to tell so I started committing them to paper or whatever else so I could get them out. I've still got a lot of organizing to do for those before they're published but the images are much clearer now than when they first came to be which is why the more time passes the more i wanna hurry up and put em out there.

till then tho i've got this:

Webcomics were something Iā€™d wanted to do since I was in middle school, and I drew comics before then too. I actually tried making a proper webcomic for a while in high school, but I ran out of steam pretty quickly. I kind of stopped drawing once I hit college. Never stoped thinking about making a comic, though. Eventually once Iā€™d graduated and I had time I tried to get back into it. It took a few false starts, but Iā€™m finally doing it!

As for why I started my current comic, specifically - I was doodling, drew the main characters (or most of them, anyway) and abruptly realized I already had personalities and a plot for them figured out.

Hoi. So, I started an anthology manga for my novel because I wanted to tell side-stories. :grinning: A lot of visual novels have anthology mangas to help further build the world. I'm always inspired by the multimedia aspect of Japanese franchises and work to make that a reailty for my own series. (Finally got brave enough to share my music on my Tumblr hehe.) Not to mention, it's fun as heck! It's like... when I was a kid and would draw comics in notebooks (but now it looks professional lol).

And here's some great comics by others! :heartbeat:

That's what's up!

I've been drawing for a long time and had the idea to take all my fantasy fluff and put it in a world with an ongoing story as I couldn't find anything that filled the niche I wanted for comics featuring plus-size characters in stories that aren't centered around their weight. I also wanted to see more black characters in fantasy settings and so with some encouragement from a few friends and family and getting organized I started pulling my notes and sketches together to make a comic.

Three years later and I'm making a full-length comic haha.

I had already sketched head-shots and waist-shots of our characters in a collaborated novel and my co-writer actually requested that I draw out what I had written in a scene, but the way I envisioned it was as a comic page (to be able to illustrate it) and she was just so excited to see that scene that I figured I could give the whole novel a try in comic form just to please her, and thus, CTM was born (BL harem comic):

I started as a child to write little scenes and put a fitting drawing next to it. And later I started to watch animations and read comics & manga. And then one of those had an ending I totally didn't like and I started to make my own new one... which than had to be a comic because otherwise anyone could have seen that it was not the original (child-me argumentations XDD).
And I just love doing that and went back to my own stories and characters.

And my current story I started because of a short story contest. I wanted to draw a magical girl that really wasn't good at all this shiny magic stuff... So I made a short comic with 20 pages.
And after that short story I decided I want to tell more of that story and now the original short story is roughly chapter 4 and there are a lot more chapers to come

@VibrantFox That's so epic! I'm glad you're able to get you're creativeness out! Continue to have fun my dude!

@Rocksteady_Comics Middle school? That takes some series dedication lol, I'm happy things are going well for you! Continue to make you're awesome comic awesome!

@MeltingCORE Dude. I feel the same. When I first started my comic i was like oof. I always wanted to make a comic. I watched anime but I didn't have the patience to make an animation. So, when I was able to make i comic i stuck with it and now its epic! Continue the good work!

@Lady_T_Musings That's awesome! I realized i'm not very good at world making. So, I thought a random thing from my daily life and making it into a comedy panel was what's best for me. And so far it really is doing better for me indeed lol

@thirdly I'm only able to draw legs, arms, torso, and head. I suck at drawing hands and feet XD so i totally understand lmao

@jamelin That's really cool! I watch a lot of anime, and most them i don't like the endings of (precisely because it ends lol) But watching anime and reading comics is a good way to learn! Keep up the good work on your comic!!

@Lady_T_Musings I'm seriesly really inspired right now! I don't see nearly enough plus-sized and black characters in comics and anime! You're doing something truly epic making a comic like that! I might check it out
