Would you ever want your comic to become a Broadway musical?

Okay so this might sound weird but would you want your comic or story to be a Broadway musical. But first, would it work as a musical?

Second, how would you want it structured what kind of styles of music would you like in it? What would the songs be about?

Cracking Eggs might work as a musical with 60s inspired numbers as well as quick jazz numbers too. With a hint of an rnb love song for Eric and Winston on the side.

Elsie may work with influences from the classical era and perhaps if wanted to do it Hamilton style, it would have many styles of music with a main musical focus which in Hamiltons case is rap and hip hop. I think for Elsie it could be modern day electronic music or 90s music or something. Grand orchestra epic music with a dash of Irish pipes for every time Ernest sings.

Elsie would also probably take a lot of inspiration from other musicals like Wicked. I’ve been wanting to draw Rosemary as Galinda (the good witch) and Elsie as Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West) and Roy as the Scarecrow.

Maybe some other time though.

If a musical about rapping slave-owners can be a hit I don't see why something I wrote can't be as well.

I don't want to, but i don't see why it can't be a musical. my drama story can actually be made into musical. (even a lot of shounen anime series had made into fun musicals as well)

I'm thinking a mixture of Les Misérables & Yentl, super sentimental.

Sanariya would never sing in the story, but she's probably a brilliant ballad singer in musical (even her name indicates that in Indian translate )

Speaking of Les Mis, I think Elsie would also work with their style of music. I love Les Mis.

If you're asking what type of musical?

None. Musicals are one of the few genres of music/ movie/ play I dislike. (Cabaret was okay) Something I'd only visit upon my enemies. Like so...

BUT!

If it was Book of Mormon type funny, and they paid me enough, I'd gladly retire to my new hot tub and let them have at it.

I don’t like musicals but I would be open to a musical mostly for the novelty of it.

So, there was a musical made for the US newspaper comic called Doonesbury. The comic was originally about college and the musical was supposed to end the college plot so the characters could move onto non-college story lines. But the whole thing is so freakin awkward. There is a rap sung by the one character who I would never imagine rapping.

So I want my musical to have an awkwardly placed rap song that’s sung by an unexpected character.

So my first thought was "ugh, but I don't LIKE musicals...!" Which is generally true...I'd much rather listen to the songs from a musical in isolation than actually watch the whole performance. I just think they have a tendency to come out cheesy and cute, which works great for high-energy stories and genres that fit into that, but the stuff I write is pretty low-key, so...I don't think it would transition very well. =/ You'd have to simplify it a lot, at the very least...

HOWEVER....I do like opera. ^^ And I know musicals that emulate operatic style exist, so...I feel like a musical with the right direction might come out pretty cool. Something that feels a little more like one big immersive composition, rather than normal dramatic scenes that suddenly burst into song.

Opera is really awesome! I think Elsie would work as an opera too. Maybe like Phantom of the Opera or something!

Also in Elsie’s time they wouldn’t have sang all fancy or skillfully as we think of opera today. They actually would’ve sang normally and with less effort. Well, they would’ve had put lots of effort but not as elite as we think of opera as today.

As someone who has written and produced a musical ITS HARD but also really fun! 7ssc is certainly not suited for the musical medium, but if I've definitely written character songs for a handful of characters. I've thought a lot about how the OST would sound, and its definitely a merge of classical acoustics with the house-electronica chord colors. so like the japanese rhythm game sorta vibe lol

I would very much prefer Nixvir to be adapted as more SERIOUS theatre, like Shakespeare.

Can't say I've ever thought about it, haha. I'm not against musicals—I've occasionally written musical-style songs about my stories—but I feel like Niji Chikara specifically would be pretty difficult to adapt. Although, if it was one of those musicals that had an original storyline instead of trying to adapt the entire plot, that might work...

I honestly don't think Trespasser could work as a musical haha. It would be funny to see it though, but more in a "haha look how bad" kind of funny

I don't think my comic would work at all in that format, and its due to the fact that there's already songs in it. Said songs are in a constructed language, and don't quite work the same in any other language. But I'd like to see someone try. lolol

My comic is also a very slow paced drama that would be quite hard to condense into a musical anyways....

However, most of the characters are singers, so they could hypothetically take part in a musical inside of the story. It would kinda be story-ception, a musical in a comic, story in a story.
