Yo why does it seem like everyone on the internet hate tapastic?

"Snowflake" doesn't refer to sexuality, gender identity, or the fact that one is from a minority. What it refers to is a type of behaviour:

A "Snowflake" is immature, but also self righteous. Not a good combination.

The "I've been born in the wrong generation because I don't like today's music" crowd also get's the label.

There are a lot bigger platforms that are progressive like, Webtoons and it doesn't have the stigma Tapastic has. Twitter is another, and these websites are huge. Maybe there are other causes for Tapas being disliked then strictly ideological.

Like you said it's a "Like-minded" community, but how welcoming is it of other points of view?

Webtoons is mostly straight stuff and their community can get toxic with gay stuff sometimes.

Twitter has a tendency to result in false rumor spreading, mass bullying, etc etc, all often in the name of a "political/moral purpose". Most likely due to the character limit and trending topics, making it quick and easy to spread half truths or half of a story, and if it gets popular it gets taken as fact.

The sites you mentioned aren't without blame or without groups of people disliking it just because you happen to like them more.

As for other points of view, tapas users are often respectful as long as you have a live and let live mentality. If, however, you go around saying you "identify as an apache helicopter" or say that homosexuals are sinners that should be burned to death, then no, you're not gonna be very well welcomed. And for good reason. I don't think it's a bad thing at all that bigots aren't welcome to come here and make people that are already dealing with a lot of shit at home feel even worse.

Webtoons has its fair share of "Gay Stuff" as you put it. Same goes for the featured section. They also just recently had a promotion for pride month where they exclusively promoted comics of LGBT+ nature. I believe it's a very progressive website.

The popular comics are not dominated by LGBT+ romance comics, which does seem to be the case here on Tapastic. On webtoons other genre's of comics seem to thrive a lot more, like action and adventure. Like myself, not everyone want's to read romance all the time. (just sometimes >.>)

No, you're missing my point. I see what you are saying, I'm not refusing anything. I just don't think that the "issues" you are pointing out are negative. I think it's great that we have a flourishing community of love and minorities here, and if you don't think that's all that great you don't have to hang out here.

Btw, if you are trying to find action on tapas as opposed to romance, it's not difficult. Just go to the comics section and browse by genre.

Except many of them recently had their episodes unfairly flagged by users and removed automatically by the system. Webtoons did rectify this and put the episodes back up but it was pretty alarming. Notably for Gerard Fulcará who had all but one of his episodes removed. His stuff isn't even NSFW, it's a gag-a-day style comedy.

Webtoons gets more traction because it is a much bigger company, so you will definitely get a wider variety of content there. Tapas is still very small in comparison so the pool of content is apparently more skewed. Tapas is welcome to incorporate a more diverse set of voices reflected in its promoted content but if it scares away the established stuff that is bringing in readers, then it wouldn't be a wise business decision.

What I said was Action Adventure and also Horror thrive more on Webtoons than on Tapastic, and that creates a more balanced popular section. That's not to say Romance doesn't thrive on Webtoons though, it's just more evenly spaced out.

And since LGBT+ comics are mainly romance there you have the reason.

People abuse algorithms all the time.

I know from a very good source that on Webtoons if an episode get's flagged too much it is automatically taken down temporarily for review. You said it yourself it's a big website so they can't do everything manually.

Majority of the episodes taken down are back up again and the Website was very quick to resolve the matter.

I don't see how bringing new things in would scare away the already established stuffs readers. It would seem to me that it would either get traction or die off and then they can try something else. I don't see the logic there.

Tapas has promoted a wide range of content. I have mentioned this many times before, but lgbt romance very rarely gets actively promoted on tapas. I know of most of the few occasions I've seen it happen and they are very few compared to all the other kinds of content that have been promoted (Horror, action, etc.)

The only way that tapas could make lgbt romance less visible on the site would be if they deliberately pushed gay comics down on the popular page and skewed its algorithms. This would be destructive and toxic.

The only way that tapas could promote content it has not yet promoted would be if they promoted homophobic or racist content. This would be destructive and toxic.

Both of these actions would scare away current audiences.

If what you're suggesting is that tapas promote more action, comedy, slice of life and horror then they're already doing that.

Let's say Tap promotes a (I'm using an extreme example here) gamer-centric comic with undertones that promote the current leadership in American politics. It has the potential to attract the wrong sort of crowd that might start harassing others on the site without provocation. Naturally feeling displeased and even unsafe with this, people will start leaving.

I never said anything about what get's promoted, I said what's "thriving". Which is to say they are popular.

I just looked at the popular section of Tapas, and if I only count the ones that are obvious LGBT+ comics (BL label and such) they clearly dominate there. That's what I mean. My point is not what the website promotes, but how open the community is.

Let's not even talk just media. Let's talk job opportunities in general.

Being a trans person, I don't have the same employment opportunities as you do. I tried getting a "normal" job and my female gendermarker and male name turned away a lot of employers, and when I did get a normal job I faced discrimination due to my gender identity on a daily basis. This site is a blessing for people like myself, as well as lgbt youth looking for a place to call home when home is not a home.

And the community IS open to other things. Just because lgbt romance does well, doesn't mean other content does badly. I came here as a horror creator originally and this site was much better than other ones I had tried before it.

True. I like to always try to keep a middle-ground on things and be open to as much as I can. It's why I try and laugh along when my friend sends me memes dragging CNN (Not like I LOVE the network but I know what it stands for). But it's hard to blame folks for not welcoming others or being on-guard at the very least when they've experienced hurt from similarly-minded people in the past.

It is not bad, nor did I ever say that.

But the topic is a question why Tapastic has a bad rep. And the reason is the community is pretty exclusive. Diverse in many ways, perhaps not so much in thought. That's the case I was building as an argument on what I think is the reason.

Any small exclusive community get's dislike from the wider public, an extreme example of this are cults. No one likes cults do they?

That's true, but it goes both ways. If you judge an outsider because you were mistreated by one once, then you're not much better then the judgemental bully that abused you once.

Two wrongs don't make a right, they just keep the circle of hate turning.

One of my favorite posts on tumblr was a user calling out the "cringey SJWs" who completely disregard the opinion of anyone who is not poc/lgbt+/other minority (I'm paraphrasing here). A commenter said "oh you're probably a white cis het male" and no the user replied back saying they're black and trans. The commenter got schooled. It's efforts like that which I enjoy the most. Mirrors need to be held up.

On a totally different side, my father-in-law's friend is racist against Hispanics because he was stabbed by one in the 70's. They grouped up and chased him for a while before he could get away.

I totally understand why he's racist, but like with anything, you can only hope for the best that they get some perspective, grow and learn from it all and maybe be more accepting in the future.

I'm getting off-topic now with my ramblings so I'll probably stop.

How about this;

1. You cannot satisfy everyone. Who cares if people hate us? We're satisfying people regardless, and if we just draw, there'll be at least one person who likes it.
2. Every platform has its issues, and people will blow it out of proportion or start rumours just because of one tiny thing they dislike. It's like trying new things; There'll be at least one party-pooper.
3. Everyone can improve, but not everyone's willing to do so, especially just because of one event that's minor such as someone saying they dislike your art. The first one hurts, but you really will get used to it. Depressing, I know, but it's true.
4. Back to 1; No one will like every genre. There'll be something that stands out that they hate, be it LGBT, Racism or even just Slice of Life. Sometimes, even seeing one can just set you off, and there's people out there that downright won't be a part of something just because one thing ruins it for them. IE; "Oh boy, a CD with all of my favorite rock songs-. . .Why is there country music? I...It didn't say there was any....why the heck..." It's the biggest middle finger to some people, and some people who use the soapbox and megaphone and get every person they can to dislike it too, just because they spread some rumours.

The reason why Tapastic has a bad reputation varies depending on who/what is spreading the information on it. There'll be the authors that used it for over a year, or just the people who've seen it not even for a full hour yet. Whatever the case; Why worry? We'll spread the good about it while they be negative all they want.

No clue. Probably people who love to troll. Tapas isn't my favorite site either but it could be much worse. I dislike tapas only for not promoting new or comics with very few views on their homepage. But love the comic support and comic profiles.

Meh, like others have said you can't satisfy everyone. I have friends in the comic community that just flat out dislike this site all for different reasons. (shrug)
