I don't feel like this completely captures the full extent of growth I had this year, but that's fine haha--I really think this has been one of my biggest years of artistic growth I've ever had simply because a lot of my mindsets changed. I came to bring myself to be more detail oriented--in the past, I was a very "bumrush" conceptual type person, thinking that as long as the basic idea got across, it didn't matter how polished or detailed it was. I learned to slow down and really put time and thought into my artwork, and that quantity was better than quality.
A lot of my other thought processes changed too--I started being more considerate of things like consistent, simple and clear shape design in my characters, clear silhouettes in all of my posing, straights vs curves, complex edges vs simple edges--these kinds of thought processes help me make decisions in all of my drawings now. I started spending a LOT of time working on my environmental work and now I almost enjoy drawing backgrounds/layout more than I do characters, when I used to avoid BGs like the plague at the start of the year haha!
It's been a good year for me and I'm looking forward to next year!
