I got the same message and posted on the forums about it, and also took the time to do research into Ringdom. Everything @JBrentonParker said about them is correct. Their practices are incredibly unethical, and they're essentially made entirely of red flags.
This week, I finally got to start writing the whole "giant robot tournament" part of my giant robot tournament story. To say I'm excited is an understatement.
Awesome! I would love to switch my story's main genre to action.
This is where I would post some sort of funny interaction with the company in question, but it was early in the morning when I read this so my replies came across a lot less clever and a lot more scathing than I would like. Please use your imagination, and pretend that I verbally owned them.
[image] This is just a reminder to be careful about who you trust. Almost no trustworthy company will reach out to you like this. Here are just a few of the red flags with this message: Weird grammar issues in a supposedly professional message. "All sorts of events." No mention of explicit stor…
I like spreading out my world building gradually, over the course of a number of chapters. I decided to experiment with my current webnovel by adding a quote to the beginning of each chapter. These quotes are from historians, newspaper articles, and fictional pieces of media written in the period th…
Trans gal and author here! Hi! The main character of my previous webnovel is trans, and her gender identity comes up a number of times throughout the story. I'm no longer updating it and have significant issues with the writing, but it's popular enough that people keep subscribing, and there are s…
I'm not particularly proud of the prose, but I'm a little proud of the pacing of the reveal of magic in Astralfice: https://tapas.io/series/Astralfice Sylva takes her hands off the keys. From within her keyboard case, she pulls out a battered sheaf of what looks to be sheet music, although it is…
My novel is an attempt at a deconstructive take on YA, and features a lesbian romance. Also there's giant robots, which is cool.
I write web novels for a few reasons: I'm in the midst of editing a novel that I'm planning on querying agents about, and I need something where I can just turn my brain off and write without stressing out about perfection. It keeps me sane, and it keeps me consistently writing every week. Gettin…
Anxious lesbian repairs giant robots.
I'm reading the Innsmouth Girl right now, and I'm really enjoying it. It's quite dark (don't go in without expecting to read about some very grim topics) but the characters and plot are engaging. My second novel on Tapas is called Astralfice. It's about being gay, having anxiety, and piloting g…
My novel is arguably more sci-fi than fantasy, but it features romance fairly prominently.
BREAKING NEWS: Local lesbian meets woman who is literally too angry to die.
Genre: Sci-fi / LGBTQ+. The main character is a lesbian, and most of the members of the main cast are not straight. Title: Astralfice Title if this was a Light Novel: Fixing Giant Robots In Another City but My Anxiety is Making My Life Awful!? Updates: One chapter each Friday. Each chapter is roughl…
For my "serious" novel, my goal is to take it through several drafts, and have it prepared for querying by the end of the year. I think that's a fairly realistic and doable goal. I didn't write very much in 2019, so my goal with my tapas novel is to maintain a consistent upload schedule of one qua…
I'm really proud of my ability to write natural-sounding dialogue. I practice this by literally acting out most pieces of dialogue in order to figure out the natural flow of a conversation. It's a lot of fun, it affords me the opportunity to be silly, and most importantly, it's helpful to hear dia…
2020 sucks, so I'm writing something that gives me joy. That something involves giant robots, angst, and tournament arcs, because that's the kind of person I am. Stay healthy and be safe, everyone <3
Is it wholesome? Well, it's more wholesome than my previous tapas novel. Is it story-driven and lgbtq+? Absolutely.
I don't like promoting my work, or drawing attention to myself in any capacity, but I see self-promotion as a necessary evil. Most work doesn't get discovered organically, and whether you like it or not, you have to be willing to work to get word of mouth about your work out there. When I'm invest…
@augustinestuart29 Thank you so much for the review! In regards to the grammar mistakes, that's absolutely what I get for letting my editing fall by the wayside for the first few chapters. Thanks for the reminder to comb through things more thoroughly in the future! I love The Innsmouth Girl, …
“Really, Sylva?” he says, gesturing to the pile of smoking metal he has spent the past hour digging through. “Our sentinel is toast, our mechanic just quit, and I’m pretty sure the fumes from the fire gave us all brain damage. On top of all that, we lost the championship. In what way could this who…
Adding on to what tired_programmer said, finding a critique partner that you can swap work with can be really helpful. If you have any friends that write, consider asking whether they want to swap work or talk about writing with you. I've been exchanging drafts with a few of my friends for years now…

How much will I have to suffer for you? Is there no depth to which you will not drive me? Or, on the opposite end of the "edgy" spectrum: “Your oldest missed reminder is as follows: Dear future self, remember to buy food. Semicolon, closed parentheses. This reminder is three days overdue."
Just started a new novel! Updates Fridays:
Welcome to the community!
Nimue's Bar, at ~260 subscribers. It's queer slice-of-life urban horror; what more can you ask for? I only started this one a few days ago, so it's currently sitting at ~10 subscribers. It's... exactly what it sounds like?
Disaster story about disaster people starts out with disaster, more at eleven: “I think that could have gone worse.” Drew looks up from his task to stare incredulously at Sylva’s smiling face. His friend has always been positive, often to what he would consider an obnoxious degree, but this is som…
Bragging time: I'm really, really good at rock paper scissors. As in "people have quit playing against me" good. I've been told I'm an empath, so that might be why, but for some reason I can just tell what other people are going to throw as soon as they start the count.
