I haaaaaave - this: [image] I am a digital hoarder, and have my very own reference-library in the form of neatly labelled, cross-referenced folders full of ALL THE THINGS. Not shown here: the entirely separate folder I keep of character-designs from games, and the other entirely separate refe…
Most of my friends who have creative ambitions also have day jobs. Some are more successful than others. It seems like the ones who are the most successful are surrounded by people who actively support their dreams.
I work a FT office gig now, and I'm trying to get my comics "career" off the ground with whatever free time I have. The only part that sucks, is often my job & real life issues get in the way of me trying to produce work on a consistent basis; the result being that the work I do churn out is on an i…
I wish my dreams made money, but they don't (right now anyway), so I work full time as a video producer for the local University. Like others have said, this does make it more difficult to make your dreams profitable. Working full time = less time to work on comics, which makes it difficult to impro…
Wasnt that most of us do? I mean most of my artist friends had steady jobs like accountant, nurse, teachers etc etc and they did comic/arts too. I also has some friends who work in art-related company and had a steady income. Those who's income from commissions, drawing comic (free-lance), Im kinda …
I'm physically handicapped and can't work anymore. I got all the time in the world to draw. Lucky me?????? I guess... not really... fml... Would honestly rather have a job that gave me a dependable paycheck that covered bills then the inconstant mess that is commissions, patreon, tips, ad revenue …
Because unfortunately life isn't cleanly split into 'work' and 'play' and as @AffectedMind said: I already have a job. It takes up 80% of my time and I'm tired when I get home from it. Then there's everything else; family, friends, house, bills, car, cleaning, pets, food, keeping healthy...L…
I do have a regular, full-time job, faaaaaaaar from making comics and such, and I keep "chasing my dreams". Time is not a problem, even if I come back home at 7pm and then I work on comics or other hobbies until 1am. The problem is that after years and years trying "chasing the dream" and you still…
If that was easier said then done I'll be in heaven right now. But sadly that doesn't pay the bill or basic needs for everyday life. The ones that do I envy you.(jk) So for now it's just a fun hobby until I'm done with my current work.
Funnily enough, my job is the reason I'm able to get so many pages done in a week. I'd probably be less stressed if I just had the comic to worry about, but I still kinda count myself lucky in a way... ....Maybe I should've become a bartender.....
I... I don't know what to say here. Like @Kaykedrawsthings said, it can be stressful and it's less likely you will achieve your goal having full-time job. Sometimes it's 8 hours, sometimes 10, sometimes you work on sundays. The truth is you are not picking your job, you only care about paying the …
I think the goal is to be making enough money doing the thing you're passionate about that you don't need to work a day job... but most people do work day jobs when they're working up to that. I have a day job right now, but it can be stressful to work at that job then come home and do freelance …
Because then you can't do what you love for a living? Pretty simple mate. People want to make a living something they are good at and like to do it. They don't want to be stuck in a shitty factory, come back home tired and exhausted and don't have time for their hobby.
Well, why can't you? It's possible to achieve this. Just have to find the job and be careful that it's not a terrible job that'll leave you drained each night. Easy!
The key, for me, is not to fall into a rut, in any circumstance (employed at a crap job or unemployed). If you don't like the r…
My full time job are commissions and it leaves me no time to experiment with new things, extra artwork, and time for my comics. I hardly make enough money. I don't recommend this rout. Liston to the other people here. =3
I think that more comic artists might benefit from a strategic choice in terms of employment. To me, what makes the most sense is bartending. Here's why: You can work doubles, even triples if you're really brave. What that means is that you can consolidate all of your hours into fewer days. For i…
Totally on board with what @cryoclaire is saying - it absolutely can be a vicious circle. My full-time job is teaching, and I love it, but I love making comics too... Still, my work is the kind that follows me home, and it's extremely difficult to reach a balance with a career like that. Just not en…
But it does create this vicious circle where you can't progress because of the job. Full time job means less time, less time means no commissions/promo work/extras for patreon, which means it's harder to leave full time job for freelance. Tl;dr; LIFE IS HARD.
Pretty sure that's what most of us do. I work full-time as a games artist on top of my webcomic. It can get brutal, and you definitely hit a limit of what you can do at some point - I can't do commissions, or contribute to anthologies, or anything without compromising my webcomic. If I were to have …
I'm sorry. This took so long and I have to share it and I love how it came out. Getting most of them in there and in proportion was a giant time sink. Any feedback appreciated!! This the new banner for my comic Nothing Good! [image] But I really want to do a new icon. Right now it's Roxanne…
here's the monster i spent 3 weeks trying to make a good design for [image]
We recently changed the artist for our series "Mythologia". Yulia Sivtsova will be the new artist and she has created some fantastic character designs for the upcoming first issue. So I thought I should start a thread about character designs. Feel free to post your character designs here, be it for …
I really like the colors and the gradients present in her clothing! Very ethereal and fitting for a goddess haha This is the only picture I have of the current cast for my current story in progress :o its super simple but it gets all of their designs across. If i drew them all in my regular style…
That's a very beautiful Hera!! : D I love her outfit and the colours. Here are some of the primary characters that have appeared in Malleus Maleficarum. From left to right and top down - Alice, Fenris, Raleigh, Benedict, Meredith. [image] [image]
Oooh, fun topic! [image] This is the basic turnaround for Masahiro, one of my main characters for Grassblades. His clothes are, like, allthe layers in the world and a pain to draw sometimes, but I guess I've gotten used to it? [image] This is the other main character, Akane. She is, for obvio…
AHHH I love character design. Ok so all of these guys are from my comic Nothing Good! SPOILERS. (But also teasers since you can see them in the banner lol) (Technically hasn't been named in comic--so spoilers) But this is Charby, he's my main angel. He likes old cameras (though for him new) a…
If you research about the Japan based version of the contest, they have a lot more detailed information about this. And they also have info on the paper size so they don't have problems to print it later. They say: For story based manga→ 31 or 45 pages for gag based manga→ 15, 19 or 31 pages Her…
matchmaking can happen!! look, the forums are even trying to do it for you! [image]
Hey guys, I'm closing this topic since the answer seems quite clear that no, no one should ever be banned from expressing themselves, and the original post is addressing events challenges on the Webtoons site as a cause to ban people instead of the Tapastic community. Webcomics as a whole is a fre…
