We recently changed the artist for our series "Mythologia". Yulia Sivtsova will be the new artist and she has created some fantastic character designs for the upcoming first issue. So I thought I should start a thread about character designs. Feel free to post your character designs here, be it for characters that have already appeared in your stories or for characters that will make their debute soon.

Here is a character design of Hera, goddess of women and marriage. This is how she is going to look like in the upcoming first issue:

Here are some of the primary characters that have appeared in Malleus Maleficarum. From left to right and top down - Alice, Fenris, Raleigh, Benedict, Meredith.

I really like the colors and the gradients present in her clothing! Very ethereal and fitting for a goddess haha

This is the only picture I have of the current cast for my current story in progress :o
its super simple but it gets all of their designs across. If i drew them all in my regular style who knows how long it'd take me to finish. Anyway from left to right their names are Dante, Abaddon, Zachriel, Valefor, Metatron, Michael, and Uriel.

Oooh, fun topic!

This is the basic turnaround for Masahiro, one of my main characters for Grassblades. His clothes are, like, allthe layers in the world and a pain to draw sometimes, but I guess I've gotten used to it?

This is the other main character, Akane. She is, for obvious reasons, a lot less of a pain to draw!

I try to do turnarounds for all of the reoccurring characters - but they don't always look the same when they actually turn up on the page. Dateh, for example, got a slightly more simplified outfit with fewer layers in the comic compared to what he's wearing here. The same goes for his partner in non-crime, Kazue, whose initial design-sketch was REALLY complicated, clothing-wise, but who ended up with a pretty simple outfit on the actual pages.

.... And sometimes, characters live only as stick-figure scribbles until I sit down and actually have to draw the pages they're on - like my hapless bandit trio:

Up at the top is what Ichi, Ni and San look like in the actual comic - at the bottom is the only design-sketch I made before I drew the page. San doesn't even have hands in the design-scribble, and Ni doesn't have a mouth.

As for designs that haven't turned up in a comic yet... Well. I did just spend most of December making up a new character-design every day based on the flavour of the tea I was drinking - you can find the Tea Witches here on my Tumblr.

Wow, all of the chara designs look so cool. 8D I love looking at other people's character sheets, they help a lot with our own. Ok, let us present ours from Legend Riders: Legacy of Leneira, at least the charas that appeared in the series so far.

We try to make charas simple as possible so we won't have problems to reproduce the pics a thousand times. Plus, we wanna make our fanartists' jobs easier. ^ ^ We aim to create simple and recognisable people, with interesting personalities (that we try to show through body language) and backstories. Also, we tend to make main chara ref sheets really simple and only containing the most important parts of their design, since we have countless detailed illustrations of them already.

Secondary chara refs tend to be more elaborate:

For example Marie, Aru's mom, although she's waiting on a more detailed ref currently.

And Hadaman, who just appeared. Their personalities and interests are the focus point of their refs, plus we might not have many detailed illustrations of them.

Now, monster designs are a different story.

Ophelia, the demon from the monastery that appeared. We usually come up with the monster's full design and origin on the spot, through the actual ref, instead of randomly creating them and THEN making the ref (which we do with human and humanoid charas). Honestly, it proved a great way to come up with more original monster designs rather than simply redrawing the clichés. Basically, we create what we need right at that moment.

I like to make uniform color designs when it comes to making characters. That can easily be seen in Yadei and Wulfric. Also height variation is fun~

AHHH I love character design. Ok so all of these guys are from my comic Nothing Good!

SPOILERS. (But also teasers since you can see them in the banner lol)

(Technically hasn't been named in comic--so spoilers) But this is Charby, he's my main angel. He likes old cameras (though for him new) and meeting people.

This is Roxanne, my main demon. Her form also hasn't technically been in comic yet, but I love her. She's hot-headed, tough and loyal.

The contagonist is President Barbas, demon of hidden things, mechanics and healing diseases. Here he is in both human and demon form.

Also everyone's work is amazing!! I love it <3 great work everyone!

Ah character design, probably the biggest Love of mine [yes it edges out comics!] Y'all are doing great with these Character Sheets. Here's a look at the one I'm compiling for all of my toons for Franqui 'n' Friends both for consistency and height compares.

Gotta love the designs in @legendriders96, there's a wonderful detail and style to your characters! @AbeMorales, you have such clean, tight concepts of Dante, Abel, and Violet. I dig the colour drops, too, that's handy! And yo, @thekampe, loving the mood samples for your Charby, he's massively emotive! And Roxanne is lovely, that little tail is killing me~ All of the character layouts are great, these are tons of fun to look over!

Here are some of There's No Such Thing as Jason's character designs from June/July. The emotion charts are really dated, I need to put another one together for each of them (especially Dim, he's so squirrely-looking!).

Here are some concept artworks of my angel character Eros which appears in my comic Eros Shot. She is basically my representation of the goddess Eros. I change some of her features as I was working on the comic and her final appearance matches the colored drawing

The three updated versions I have thus far, I'm currently working on the guys but for me men are harder to draw facing forward like this xD I'm better at drawing them more towards the side like how most creators seem to be drawing their character sheets. I draw the line art traditionally so it's a little harder x.x

I normally don't draw the backside unless the character has something important detail to remember in the back.

I like your intricate character designs and their is a nice balance of color on each character. One suggestion for a character concept is to have a profile and back view of them so you know how that looks like.

Ah thanks! I will be making face profiles and sheets that show multiple expressions. As for back view it is a plan but I have so many other characters I need to get done first x.x I have a rather large cast.
