Fragile: do you wanna see two depressed furries and half a chicken SCREAM AT EACH OTHER do you wanna see finding nemo, but everything's grey and smudgy do you want to see a completely unreasonable amount of snow? like way, way too much snow? do you wanna see a dude fuck a dragon eventually…
Elliot from my comic, Fragile, ~appeared to me in a dream~ (insert magical sparkles here) [image] Probably because I WAS him in said dream, he's based a lot on myself. He doesn't really look like me much (only physical traits we share are eye and skin color), but his personality is based on mine, l…
My thumbnails are small, often not very legible quick sketches I draw in a sketchbook , although I mostly work digitally. I tend to do them when I'm away from home for the most part, so that even if I can't work directly on my comic, I can still get something done. An important thing to remember a…
My quick general synopsis of my comic, Fragile, is that it's a high fantasy comic about snow, dragons, and friendship. It also features a non-human cast, a corrupt kingdom, a long-lost son, a boy with a mysterious past, and a whole lot of purple. Other fantasy comics I really enjoy: Hellbound, …
Evan Dahm is my biggest inspiration for sure! I've been following his work for years, and while he wasn't what made me start comics, he's influenced my art and writing a lot. His comic, Vattu, is the kind of comic I hope to create someday
Have a regular update schedule and do your best not to miss updates. Creating a "buffer" (a backlog of several pages drawn ahead of update schedules) can help with this. It's important to show your readers you can be reliable
Does anyone know of any good podcasts about webcomics (or comics/graphic novels), or webcomic reviewers that review via audio or video? I love to listen to podcasts or reviews while drawing, but right now the only one I know of is Dirty Old Ladies, and it doesn't update often. Any podcasts that anal…
I read Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics when I was like, 10, and way too young to understand most of what it was about, but it kind of shaped my view and love of comics on a fundamental basis I think. Making Comics I read a little later, but it also was very helpful to me as a young comics artis…
Haha, same! It was too hard for me to find fonts that looked natural and I reaaallly hate fiddling around with text tools, so switching to hand-lettering was a really natural choice for me.
gonna get my fangirling out of the way quick--You're one of my favorite artists and I respect/admire you a ton!! Today Nothing Happened is somewhat of a comfort read for me, and Runewriters is one of the comics I often to recommend to folks (you keeping it up even after a long hiatus inspires me a l…
Most comics nowadays use fonts for speech balloons, it's pretty much a given. It' not s a bad thing; as long as speech bubbles are legible, they don't really effect the quality of the comic. But I personally hand-letter, and I'm wondering if there are any other hand-letterers here? If so, what are y…
I love OCs, so this a good thread for me!! Anyway, here is Kimberly, who is non-humanoid because she's, well, a cat. She's the main character of a comic I'm hoping to host here on tapastic, if I can get the time. [image] The next character should have an unusual or flashy way of dressing!
Exciting answer: when I drew the last page of my first comic, december last year. It was 3am and I was calling with my partner on skype because I was worried I'd feel terrible after finishing my first major project. But instead of feeling terrible, I started laughing and laughed for like...5 or 10 m…
If I don't watch myself I end up absentmindedly doodling pages full of just eyes, sometimes with wings included. Both are things I love to draw, and they show up a lot in my serious artwork too
Oh boy let me tell you I love to complain about bad writing!! Amnesia. I've seen literally one story in my entire life that handled amnesia well, for the rest its been entirely predictable and unnecessary. That main couple, usually het, that every single reader knows as soon as they interact th…
I haven't seen a thread like this, and I thought it might be a nice idea; what's your favorite comic you've found on Tapastic? Not something you knew about before or from somewhere else; one you only found because of Tapastic. Though I've found lots and lots of good comics on here (its why I love …
I don't have a lot of solid limits, since my biggest promise to myself in terms of writing is to never censor myself. I've seen writers that try to restrict their own content, from not having curse words to stopping story lines they've already started because they don't feel its "appropriate". I can…
I love all genres of music and I will listen to anything as long as its good, but I like loud "weird" music and I've also got a special fondness for folk punk and the like...very embarrassing special fondness cause most of it is trash, but eh, I love it anyway. My favorite band ever is The Mount…
For my first comic, I pretty much only had a solid idea for the first five pages when I started...I really didn't know what I was doing heh. I got a basic outline figured out quick enough to continue it, though, and got a clear idea for the ending then. But for my current and probably all my futur…
I'll be willing to give pretty much any genre a try, but my personal favorites are high fantasy stuff (bonus points for non-human characters and tons of worldbuilding) and the kind of urban fantasy stuff typically associated with YA novels.
Thanks everyone for the kind replies! I edited the first post to include a link, heh. All of your comics seem really interesting and I'll be sure to check em out!
Hi hello, I'm Liz, I'm sorta new here and I really love webcomics! I've been lurking for a couple months, and yesterday I finally posted my first series here. This place seems like a lovely community, and I'm excited to be a part of it! As for who I am; I'm high school student who's loved comics as…
