Hmm, my experience with alcohol is more from the "European Model", if that makes sense. I come from a family of responsible drinkers, and they're also from the tradition where you introduce your child to a small "finger dip" champagne on holidays. Like, when they're 15, 17, something like that. I…

Something that comes to mind is that the more realistic the style, the more opportunity there is to differentiate faces, and vice versa - the more simple a style is, the more everything will tend to look the same out of necessity since a lot of the small details that could make different faces uniqu…

I think it's definitely a problem, or more a symptom of a problem. The mindset that causes it is pretty bad for you, if you're trying to get better. Mixing up the facial features like the jaw shape, nose shape and even the way the eyes are drawn can help immediately. Even the shape of the eyebrows s…

I think the only thing that concerns me when it comes to SFS is if it takes me out of the experience. I want to enjoy the story, get involved with the plot, characters, etc. but if I can’t tell anyone apart - that’s a problem. I don’t think I should have to spend a long time trying to flip back and …

I don't actually mind sameface that much. I do like and appreciate art styles that give characters unique features (and I am aiming to develop a style like that myself), but it's not an absolute requirement for me. IMO it's one of the less important problems an artist can have in their work. Havin…

I noticed there was a thread about this in 2016 but I want to hear what others think of this now. From past experiences this can be a bit of a controversial topic but I aim for this to all be in a good tone and I must stress no style is inferior to others and everyone are allowed to do what they wa…

In a lot of cases I think it's because the creator wants people to like their characters, so they might be scared that if their characters are 'ugly' the audience won't connect with them. I used to see it a lot in my peer group when I was younger. I used to do it too, but then I realized 'likeable' …

Aah! I love stuff like this! You're process post is so freaken detailed, it's great! I do post wip stuff, but not as in depth. Back in the day I used to do scans of my sketch and inks for Patreon. [image] [image] Also a couple years ago I was requested to do a post on my coloring process on Sp…

Salut cousin(e)! I think it's an excellent idea. My advice would be to have a bit of the following categories: - super famous aspects or even (true) stereotypes of Quebec. - less evident, but still widely known aspects - a few obscure facts That, not only to create some dynamics, but also to g…

The comic I'm working on is set in a fictional city in Québec, Canada, and I would love to add little info card at the end of some episodes(which would be multiple pages) to explain things about my province. For example: In the 3 or 4 pages in a episode, there could be 2 things that are special to…

I do have a scene like that into the comic actually XD

Here's a typical page process for me.(Open in new window to full view) [image]

Hey! That's really cool thanks for sharing. Was a great read. Likewise, we (myself Jon and my friend Kris) embarked on a similar journey a few weeks back creating a behind the scenes section of our website for our comic Super Massive. We focused a lot more on the general ideation, synopsis, scr…

most of my friends who do freelance art full time do a mix of many things. Webcomics may be their main focus, but they take commissions and things on the side. patreon, branding and marketing themselves, getting big on social media etc etc. Many people have already replied so I won't bother going…

One of my favorite authors of all time said that the only people who become authors are the ones that can't do anything else. Making a nice living as an accountant is hella easier and less heart wrenching. I'm a very good writer. There have been times in my life where I lived off of it. I current…

I'm going to be honest with you. A lot of the artists you see who have beautiful art actually don't do this full time. They are artists who work in an art related career and do this as a portfolio practice or a side job. I'm friends with a couple of artists who are concept artists, work for disne…

Realistically, you'd have to have a diverse artistic portfolio and live in a place with a very low cost of living to make it work and not be absolutely miserable. You can't just do webcomics, you definitely can do one as self promotion but it's basically just that. You need to have printed books and…

I refuse to talk about odds or the like because everything outside your choices and your actions is outside your control. The world owes you nothing and you owe the world nothing. This frees you to choose exactly who you are and most importantly Who You Want to Be. Now, there are no unrealistic Go…

After reading this thread @kainatarma and your comments @yozhikisblue I looked into it and found a few websites that provide interesting breakdowns regarding reader demographics and genre. One of the most informative and reliably sourced is, https://cloviswhitman.com/2017/09/27/who-reads-in-the-u…

@fatedmatescomic Agree! Even implied, or frequently shown wrapped as "preference," colorism in mass media from creative work to advertisement can have adverse effect. From casting, to something has to do with the story, casting only light skinned or Caucasian mixed, or always depicting them as more …

I mean...when I write about love, I usually just go with what I know and what I've seen. Growing up, I've see all types of love -- family love, platonic love between friends, romance, crushes. I've experienced all of them except falling in love with someone romantically (I've had crushes, but the…

These are from 2013 [image] [image] These are from this year! Same characters too. [image] [image]

Sorry to revive this thread, but I just found one of my older drawings and realized that THIS: [image] and THIS: [image] are one year apart

Two comic pages, a little over two years apart. Late 2015: Super saturated colours, little texture or depth, and that anatomy is terrifying. I like the inks on the leaves, I guess...? [image] Early 2018: Still not where I want to be, but at least I'm moving forwards! [image]

Absolutely not devolving, look at this growth and control (even the horrifically wicked Waluigi is a boss sample with crosshatching of legends, yo). My evolution's rather slow-going. 2005, started off with ball-point ink, colour pencil, and roxio photo editor (programme for a digital camera). […

I'm quite fond of the opening of Clive Barker's 'The thief of always' (but more for nostalgic reasons) "The great gray beast February had eaten Harvey Swick alive. Here he was, buried in the belly of that smothering month, wondering if he would ever find his way out through the cold coils that l…

Do you take photographs of yourself for reference? Share them here! Sometimes you need a certain pose for a panel but you don't know how to search for it on Google or, attempting to search it, you found nothing helpful. So you take a photo of yourself! That's what I do anyways. My webcam is horrib…

have you ever read anything in the "Bizarro Fiction" genre? I just started reading it and i'm OBSESSED. it's surrealism to the max

AUGHHH this is such a hard question. I would probably say horror? but maybe, actually, non fiction? because i actually draw a lot of inspiration for work from real life events, love stories, history, science. So maybe that would be my safest bet.

Can I count arthouse/indie as a genre? Pls :hugging:
