Zhisen thinks about how naive and trusting he was as a kid on the regular and still hates himself for it, so I imagine he wouldn't be very kind to himself... Khojin would probably laugh and shake his head. After all, he wishes he was still that carefree. [image]
The cover of my book, Blue Eagle, Cricket Prince, done by a close friend of mine! [image]
Going off your revised dialogue. Jackie: uhuu!!! This is a little sudden. I think if you introduce in the prose the fact that Jackie is drunk and making a cheering or whooping sound, this line is unecessary. It could just be a me thing, but I'm not too big on sfx in dialogues. Kamso: please, s…
Are you a fan of Machiavellian antiheroes, Han Dynasty and Mongolian aesthetics, swordfights, horses, high-stakes court politics, and romances that can only be summed by saying "it's complicated"? All of the above? Check out my novel, Blue Eagle, Cricket Prince! [image]
I tend to start writing with barely any knowledge of what's going on or what will go on, and just let the handful of characters I've thought about carry me through a chapter of two aimlessly. Then after I decide whether or not I had fun writing those chapters, I gradually plot out every arc of stor…

A sudden wind tore the scarf from his face and shook drops of crimson from his black hair that whipped behind him like an eerie flag. From a future chapter! [image]
I tend to develop characters in relation to each other, and bearing in mind what kind of dynamic I want the main narrators (I write in third person limited) to have with each other. For Blue Eagle, Cricket Prince, the initial core concept of the plot was this: a Han prince and a Mongolian prince m…
The war in Blue Eagle, Cricket Prince is based on the conflict between Han Dynasty China and the Xiongnu (Mongol) Confederation. I was inspired by an article I was reading about different forms of empire (I study archaeology), which discussed the Xiongnu as a 'shadow' empire, essentially growing in …
Between the main narrators of Blue Eagle, Cricket Prince, I'd rather hang out with Khojin (the man with scars). Zhisen can be hard to talk to, he's a pretty severe guy. Khojin, on the other hand, is experienced when it comes to running away from his responsibilities and accomplishing nothing besides…

Zhisen remembered when Gentry Su had asked her, Lady Yin, what are your thoughts about the campaign? With a cold voice, she had said, What thoughts do you seek? What does a woman know about the glory won from war? Gentry Su had not known to look ashamed, but was only confused by her remark. I…
[image] The man represents just about everyone who is attracted to Zhisen (a lot of people). Zhisen is the man on the right, on the cover. [image]
A Mongolian prince who's as good with animals as a Disney princess signs a deal with the devil, who would in fact wear Prada, if he weren't from the Han Dynasty. [image]
One day, Zhisen thought, I will pour your tears over his headstone like a libation of wine. Are you a fan of Machiavellian antiheroes, Han Dynasty and Mongolian aesthetics, swordfights, horses, high-stakes court politics, and romances that can only be summed by saying "it's complicated"? All of t…
I'm glad you like my style! Thank you very much for subscribing! Much love! <3

“You do not need to tell me to trust you.” “Is that because you trust me, or because you never will?” [image]
Do you think that taking revenge will heal your wounds, or do you not care if you bleed forever? [image]

Zhisen (the guy with the cricket cage) has a really beautiful singing voice. Since he's Chinese, a fitting comparison might be Eric Chou? (Unbreakable Love, as a song recommendation to see how he sounds) Khojin (with the scars) has a sort of gravelly, deep voice. Since I'm not too familiar with the …
Every day? Rice. This applies to all of my main narrators, who live in empires based on China and Mongolia.
Zhisen (second-in-line for the throne of the Jirandai Empire, based on the Han Dynasty)— would not know what a toilet handle is, but assuming the context of a modern AU, is the sort of person to ring up the relevant maintenance staff, and then leave before they arrive to fix the problem, because 'it…
If there was one thing in creation Zhisen could never mistake, it was the smell of blood. It was thin, but strong, like a shot of potent liquor. It was a dark scent, but the effect was light-headedness. It was coppery, but it was lead that sank into his gut and melted into the soles of his feet, ch…

Zhisen (the guy with the cricket cage). The trauma is endless and life-warping. This is obvious starting from the prologue (I'm sorry, I just like it when my characters suffer). Khojin (the guy with the scars) slowly tries to work toward giving him that much-needed hug through the story. [image]

I just use the default "Mature content" warnings on Tapas, even for stuff that I personally don't consider very sensitive. I think to myself, "Hey, would I be OK with a kid under fourteen (as a general, not precise, marker of innocence) reading this and then talking to me about it afterwards?" If th…

I update weekly, on Saturdays. My initial upload included a Dramatis Personae, the prologue, and the first three chapters. I don't know what the average on this site is, but personally I'd be frustrated if a work I liked reading updated any less regularly. Do check it out if you're a fan of Mach…
It's not a comic, but my main characters are 30ish. Zhisen is 27, Khojin is 33. The plot spans over roughly nine years, so Zhisen will be older. But, no need to wait, really— he certainly acts older than he should, most of the time (cough cough trauma cough). [image]
