I haven't really found any such poems, but some songs.
Come Josephine in my flying machine,
Going up she goes! Up she goes!
Balance yourself like a bird on a beam
In the air she goes! There she goes!
Up, up, a little bit higher
Oh! My! The moon is on fire
Come Josephine in my flying machine
Going up, all on, Goodbye!
Then there was a song parody I wrote, to be sung to the tune "Hero of Canton." It was inspired by one particular character.
Lee!
Hazel Ying Lee!
She flew for the rich and she flew for the poor,
stood up to the man, and she gave him what for.
Our love for this woman is easy to see.
The Hero of Canton, Hazel Ying Lee!
Our Hazel heard her mother's heart breaking.
She heard her father's lament.
She heard of the Japanese incursion,
So from Portland to China she went.
She said, "I want to serve my people.
Give me a Curtiss Hawk. I'll fly!"
They said, "We would, you see,
But it's 1933.
Tough luck that you're not a guy."
She'd fly for the rich and she'd fly for the poor,
Stand up to the man and she'd give him what for.
But that didn't do much 'cause they just couldn't see
The Hero of Canton could be a "she."
Now this is what separates heroes
From common folk like you and I.
The Japanese incursion
became so much worse,
And Zeros, Kates, and Vals filled the sky.
Bombs dropped on people's houses.
They blew up people's yards,
but Hazel Ying Lee
Said, "Come follow me!"
And she rescued all her friends and family.
She rescued the rich and she rescued the poor,
stood up to the man, and she gave him what for.
Our love for this woman is easy to see,
The Hero of Canton - Hazel Ying Lee!
I'd write more verses, but that would mean too many spoilers.
